Job Description
CIC Insurance Group is a Cooperative Insurer in Africa, providing insurance and related financial services in Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and Malawi. The Group offers a wide range of products including General Insurance, Life Assurance, Medical Insurance and Asset Management services. It is a pioneer and leader in micro-insurance. The Company is seeking to recruit a dynamic and visionary leader to join this winning team as Chief Operating Officer (COO) reporting to the Group Chief Executive Officer.
The mandate of the COO at CIC Insurance Group is to direct, administer, and coordinate the internal shared services and operational activities of the Company in accordance with the goals and objectives established by the Group Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors. S/He will lead and direct growth in the following business units: Finance, Strategy, Operations, Cooperatives, Distribution and Marketing, ICT, Actuary, PR and Communication.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Formulate and implement the business strategy to ensure overall achievement of CIC Group’s long-term strategy and annual business plans;
Provide strategic direction on matters relating to business performance, new investments and business opportunities and changes to enhance profi tability and shareholder value;
Develop and establish operating policies consistent with the Group CEO’s broad policies and objectives and ensures their execution;
Prepare regular and periodic reports to the Group CEO that provide a strategic direction and qualitative assessment on the achievement of the planned goals;
Oversight of shared services and participate in expansion activities such as investments and Corporate alliances;
Champion continuous development, review and implementation of management structures, procedures and controls;
Ensure achievement of operational results for all key metrics in line with annual business budgets and plans and responsible for evaluation, analysis and interpretation of Corporate performance data;
Ensure that appropriate management structures and policies are continuously developed, reviewed and implemented;
Promote and maintain sound corporate governance, ethical, integrity, diversity inclusion and corporate social responsibility standards; and
Build customer relationships that ensure business retention, growth and manage relationships with key partners, policy makers and other stakeholders.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
Hold a Master’s degree in a Business-related field from a recognised institution;
Possess professional qualification(s) in Insurance and/or Actuarial, CFA, CPA, ACCA or ACA;
Be a member in good standing of a recognised professional body;
Have knowledge and experience of not less than fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience with at least ten (10) years served in senior management position in a comparable role;
Possess strong knowledge of the insurance or financial services industry and a proven track record in business growth;
Have thorough understanding of financial management, regulatory compliance, board management and demonstrable commercial and investment acumen; and
Possession of a Certificate in Corporate Governance and experience in the cooperative movement will be an added advantage.
Candidates will be required to satisfy the following additional requirements:
Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority;
Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board;
Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;
Report from an Approved Credit Reference Bureau; and
Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
