Key Responsibilities
Implement and supervise daily husbandry practices for 500-1000 head of beef cattle.
Ensure the health, nutrition, and welfare of the livestock through proactive management strategies.
Oversee breeding programs, vaccinations, and disease prevention measures.
Manage veterinary issues promptly and effectively, in collaboration with local veterinarians.
Lead a team of approximately 10 employees, including herders and support staff.
Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure optimal performance and productivity.
Foster a positive work culture based on collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement.
Develop and implement operational plans to optimize cattle production and grazing management.
Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements related to livestock management.
Assist in marketing activities, including the procurement of cattle from the market as well as building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, buyers, and other stakeholders in the industry.
Qualifications
A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, animal science or related field.
Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in hands-on cattle management.
Must be able to work in a rural area.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of veterinary practices and experience in managing veterinary issues in Kenya.
