C Vehicle Mechanic

Main Duties:

To safely carry out mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs to a wide range of equipment’s held within BATUK. 
To identify and diagnose faults within the equipment and its sub-systems and then report to the military line manager.
Update the Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions (JAMES) computer system during/after repair.
All work to be carried out iaw procedures and standards as stated Army Equipment Support Publications (AESP’s) and or manufacturers repair manuals.
Comply with theatre quality and technical instructions in addition to any policy procedures laid down in AESPs.
Comply with Health and Safety Regulations.
Comply with engineering hygiene standards ensuring that all tools on charge are serviceable and accounted for. 
Drive and operate equipment whilst under inspection. 
Carry out monthly toolbox checks iaw Joint Support Publication (JSP) 886.c.   

Secondary Duties:

Provide assistance to the military line manager or BATUK staff where required.
Be deployable to any area for up to six weeks in support of DIO or BATUK.
Carry out any other duties commensurate with the trade/grade as directed by the MLM.   

Competences/qualifications/experience:
Essential:

Good understanding of English (written/oral) as will be required to write reports.
Technical and mechanical knowledge with a Class 1 vehicle mechanic qualification and a minimum of 3 years of practical trade experience.
Work conforming to UK and HSWA PPE requirements in all conditions.
Must possess a valid Kenyan driving license with categories B, C and G.
Well organised, self-disciplined and motivated and willing to work in a multi-ethnic team.
Must pass both a theoretical and practical driving assessment from the BATUK military transport section. 

Desirable: 

A good understanding of modern vehicular electrical systems. 
Be able to work both independently or as part of a team. 
Be of able body to be able to work with and lift heavy equipment. 
IT literate to be able to use necessary computer programmes.

Training Requirements:

Introduction to British Army RE Support Team systems and processes.
Introduction to the various equipment platforms held within BATUK.
Introduction into SHEF regulations and duty of care requirements.
Introduction to RIDDOR, COSHH and any other requirements associated with the appointment.
