Key Responsibilities:
Budget & Resource Management:
Manage the budget for both biomedical and maintenance operations.
Track maintenance costs and control expenditure to remain within approved budgets.
Ensure adequate inventory of critical spare parts and maintenance tools.
Staff Management & Training:
Train, supervise, and support maintenance staff in performing their duties.
Biomedical Equipment Management:
Provide technical training to medical and maintenance teams on the proper use and basic troubleshooting of equipment.
Promote a culture of safety, ensuring all team members adhere to safety protocols and hospital policies.
Inspect, maintain, and repair biomedical equipment, ensuring all 5. Reporting & Documentation:
devices meet safety standards and are fully operational.
Perform preventative maintenance checks and routine inspections on all medical devices such as ventilators, imaging machines, dialysis machines, patient monitors, and surgical instruments.
Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
Liaise with medical staff to address equipment performance issues promptly.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory bodies and manufacturers’ maintenance protocols.
Recommend upgrades or replacements of obsolete or malfunctioning equipment.
Coordinate with external vendors for advanced repairs or servicing that cannot be completed in-house.
Hospital Maintenance Oversight:
Manage and lead the hospital’s maintenance team, ensuring that the physical infrastructure is well-maintained. Oversee the maintenance of hospital buildings, grounds, utilities (plumbing, electrical, HVAC), and other non-medical equipment. Develop and implement maintenance schedules to prevent equipment and facility breakdowns.
Respond to emergency repair requests, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital operations.
Conduct regular facility inspections to identify repair needs and safety issues, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Coordinate with contractors and service providers for specialized repair tasks.
Prepare and present reports on biomedical equipment performance and maintenance activities to hospital management.
Maintain documentation for audits and accreditation purposes. Ensure records are kept up to date, including logs of repairs, maintenance schedules, and equipment performance reviews. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by your supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications:
Education
Minimum of a Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology. Experience
Experience with internal audits, Safe care Inspections or ISO inspections or JCIA inspections will be an added advantage. Registration with a professional body will be an added advantage.
Committed to and conform with the organizations mission. Experience
Minimum of 3 or more years of experience in a hospital set up.
