Biomedical Engineering Technologist

Purpose: 

To ensure proper maintenance, safety and sound condition of all medical equipment and ensure optimum maintenance condition and available for use.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect, maintain, repair carry out preventive maintenance as well as and install biomedical equipment which include ICU, Renal, Laboratory, Physical Medicine, wards equipment and other areas of the Hospital.
Keep records of all job cards, PPM schedules and tasks as performed.
Creating test procedures for all Hospital equipment
Participate in equipment or process validation activities.
Handle all biomedical equipment job requests.
Modify equipment to meet unique operational or research needs.
Train hospital staff and researchers how to operate equipment
Observe and comply with environmental health and occupational safety measures and regulations
Order spare parts and consumables needed in workshops for preventive maintenance and repair
Ensuring hospital equipment are serviced and calibrated regularly
Preparation of maintenance budgets, organization and planning of purchase of medical equipment spare parts
Maintain documentation on all equipment, inspections, and equipment repairs and failures
Assist with and evaluate third-party repairs
Organizing courses for other health workers on the proper and safe usage of medical equipment
Advise on all matters concerning the Bio-medical equipment
Carry out preventive maintenance and repairs of Bio-medical equipment within the established quality standards and procedures
Coordinate preventive maintenance in electrical distribution systems and plant equipment within the Biomedical unit
Staff supervision including work scheduling and execution for staff and self.
Ensure continuous training of Bio-medical equipment users on machine handling

Applicants Qualifications, Experience, Competencies and Attributes

Degree/Diploma in Medical Engineering or any other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution
Candidate must have worked for not less than three years in a busy hospital setting
Possess considerable experience and have shown competence ability and efficiency in organizing and managing maintenance services
Must have the ability to be very precise and accurate.
Must demonstrate high integrity and ethical practice
Must demonstrate ability to execute work assigned with minimum supervision
Must be a team player who is able to work cordially in teams
Must demonstrate ability to multitask.
Should have ability to solve problems by applying relevant knowledge
Must be able to work under pressure
Must be a flexible person, who is willing to learn and able to work flexible hours to achieve goals
Must be able to deliver targets, and a good planner who pays attention to detail
Must have knowledge in use of MS Office packages
