Job Objective
To design and deliver a program of teaching to students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and the University to generate income; to develop and carry out research projects to extend knowledge of the relevant subject area; to provide service to the community and the professions; to translate knowledge into practice; to write or publish books or other creative works.
Duties and responsibilities
To teach in areas allocated by the Head of Department.
Design, develop, plan and deliver a range of programmes of study, sometimes for entirely new courses at various levels.
Deliver high-quality lectures and practicals.
Review course content and materials on a regular basis, updating when required.
Collaborate with academic colleagues on course development, curriculum changes and the development of research activities.
Carry out research and write research grant proposals.
Seek and participate in consultancies.
Present research papers at national or international conferences and other similar events.
Dissemination of research outputs.
Provide mentorship and career guidance to students and staff.
Ensure all academic activities align with the standards of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisors or as captured in your detailed job description;
Qualification and experience
PhD/Doctorate in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent degree qualification or a related field from a recognised/accredited university.
Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science degree or a related field from a recognised/accredited university.
Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science degree or a related field from a recognised/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching/research experience at the University level as a Senior Lecturer.
A minimum of forty-eight (48) equivalent publication points as a Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow of which thirty-two (32) should be from refereed journal articles.
Supervised at least four (4) postgraduate students including (1) doctoral student to the completion.
Attracted research funds as a Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow
Attended and contributed at academic conferences, seminars and workshops.
Evidence of leadership (administrative experience, active participation in departmental /school/university/national/international activities).
