Assistant Accountant

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:

This position reports directly to the University Accountant and is responsible for the following:

Receivables

Preparing invoices for University incomes.
Ensuring daily reconciliations of receipts
Banking of cheques received.
Carrying out of registration of students and attending to students’ issues.
Clearing of students for graduation and exams.
Maintaining good filing systems.

Payables

Receiving and posting of invoices and deliveries notes from procurement section.
Preparation of Payment vouchers, cheques for supplier’s payment.
Ensuring all statutory deductions are paid before the stipulated deadline.
Handling all issues concerning payments.
Responsible for submission of all statutory deductions to the respective authorities before due dates: i.e. NSSF, SHIF, PAYE, Withholding tax.

Budgeting

Assist in preparation of annual budgets
Ensure strict budgetary controls
Financial Reporting
Assist in preparation of monthly/quarterly management accounts and reports.
Assist in External Audits.
Assist in preparation and production of various reports required by external parties.

Other Responsibilities

Assist in maintenance of fixed assets register

Debt collection

Bank reconciliation of all University bank accounts
Any other work assigned by supervisor

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Finance related
Minimum CPA Part Two
Five years’ experience in Accounting
