Accountant

The Accountant will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day functions of the Finance and Accounting department. The role holder is responsible for handling the accounts receivable function for Tushop. They will ensure end-to-end payment integrity, reportability, and compliance with established financial management policies. The ideal candidate is a results-driven, certified accountant with at least four years of experience handling accounts receivable in a busy finance department, within the FMCG sector. They should possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, and a thorough understanding of accounting standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the Accounts Receivables function, including daily reconciliation and monthly update of ageing report and matching revenue to payment points for the various product revenue categories
Ensure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions in compliance with accounting standards and regulations
Conducting monthly reconciliation of bank and MPESA accounts on a timely basis
Update weekly and monthly inflows and outflows records and provide updates
Prepare and file tax returns and statutory deductions and payments
Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements and Management reports
Maintain a monthly fixed asset registry and perform impairment, and pass journals for the same
Conduct monthly and annual financial analysis, including budget variance analysis, trend analysis, and forecasting
Participate in internal and external audits and provide support to external auditors
Initiate and supervise stock-checks and reconciliation with the Warehouse Manager
Participate in financial standards setting and in quarterly and annual budget forecast process and provide input into departments goal setting process

The profile we’re likely to hire:

BCom Finance or Accounting from an accredited institution.
Professional Accounting Qualification (CPA (K) or ACCA)
At least 4 years of experience in Finance/Accounting, with at least 2 years of handling accounts receivables within the FMCG sector.
Prior experience in a startup environment is highly desirable, demonstrating adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic setting
Experience using QuickBooks and other Accounting software, and a good understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and their applications
Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and prioritize key initiatives and opportunities
Able to demonstrate initiative and ownership of assignments and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence others
High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to effectively and efficiently handle a variety of responsibilities
