    About the Manager Position

Managers need not be Stata wizards, but must be able to develop a deep and nuanced understanding of how econometric, data, and field experiment tools can be tailored to client needs.
    Mentorship of junior staff- Managers have the opportunity to professionally develop IDinsight Associates in order to help them achieve their long-term career goals. Associates have exceptional raw talent, and are very energetic to learn from Managers in order to hone various skills.

    Although this position will be based in the Nairobi office, you will be expected to spend time in rural areas and potentially other countries in the region. IDinsight is primed to play a leading role in the growing “AI4Good” / “Machine Learning 4 Good” movement. We partner with with large scale social sector organizations to utilize world class data collection, research design, and policy implementation support – necessary conditions to realize the full potential of powerful technical tools and maximum impact on lives around the world.
    We are seeking a passionate technical leader who is focused on using her or his skills for the improvement of many lives. Our Data Science Lead must be creative, think outside the box, thrive in entrepreneurial settings and be seeking a role with an organization looking to rewrite rules and make big bets. The Data Science Lead will have latitude and responsibility for creatively seeking innovative ways to apply these products to new contexts.
    As part of the Innovation team, the Data Science Lead will be the technical lead for all things machine learning at IDinsight. This will include hiring, managing, and mentoring more junior data science staff, setting and maintaining organizational quality standards, doing direct coding and model design work, and partnering with clients to develop and execute high quality projects. You and the team you lead will build algorithms and other data science products that help locate out of school children, predict the spread of disease, identify infants with high mortality risk, or make credit scoring possible for the unbanked for the first time.
    Finally, the Data Science Lead will play an important role in the internal development of machine learning products to improve IDinsight’s data collection operations for large scale surveying. This includes algorithms used to predict and flag low data quality, produce representative samples and more.

    About the Role

    Required Qualifications

    6+ years working in data science in industry or applied research in academia
    Deep experience with supervised machine learning algorithms (both deep learning and non-deep learning approaches) and with both structured and unstructured data (ex. tabular administrative data, satellite imagery, text etc.)

    Experience with the design and delivery of a product from start to finish

    Compensation

The Africa Regional Operations Lead will lead all aspects of our operations as we grow, and ensure that our African offices are run like a world-class organization.
    The Africa Regional Operations Lead will report to the Regional Head, support the office leads and collaborate closely with IDinsight’s Global Operations team. He/she will collect feedback from staff on where our current systems and policies are falling short, adapt our systems or design new ones, coordinate the roll-out of these new systems and policies, and ensure adherence.     Job description
    The East Africa Regional Director (EARD) will define and execute IDinsight’s regional strategy by establishing close advisory relationships, oversee the region’s operations and support directors in managing a portfolio of projects. The EARD will drive IDinsight’s work and growth in East Africa with support from IDinsight’s CEO and Partner team.

    Define and execute strategy: The EARD will be responsible for realizing IDinsight’s sector- transforming vision for the region. As IDinsight’s primary regional representative, the EARD will develop new client engagements and initiatives and refine IDinsight’s multi-country model. Particular emphasis is placed on establishing deep, trusting relationships with government policymakers in East Africa. The EARD will establish him/herself as an expert and trusted advisor to development leaders to increase program effectiveness and shape evidence-based action in the region.
    Teams and operations: The EARD will work closely with the Nairobi office operation manager to ensure smooth management of the Nairobi-based teams. This will primarily involve participating in staffing decisions and supervising office finances and approvals. The EARD will also contribute to mentoring IDinsight high-performing staff and supporting regional recruitment efforts.

    About The East Africa Regional Director Position
    IDinsight has been operating in East Africa since 2013. Located in Nairobi, the East Africa office supports 21 employees with further growth expected.
