    Responsibilities

    Strategy and Execution:

    Drive the development and implementation of IDinsight’s communications and influence strategy in the East and Southern Africa region, identifying target audiences, key messages, tactics, approaches, and feedback mechanisms to measure progress towards goals, in close collaboration with the regional executive team.

    Internal team support:

    Support regional project teams to strengthen deliverables for clients (NGO, government, and philanthropic leaders) to ensure high-quality products that clearly convey recommendations.
    Work with Regional Lead to leverage communications to develop and strengthen existing and new partner relationships; laying the groundwork for high-impact projects.

    Communications and External Relations

    Identify and coordinate high-impact activities to raise the organization’s visibility and influence including media outreach, supporting conferences, events, roundtables, or other initiatives as aligned with the regional strategy and goals.
    With support from the Designer, Digital Associate, and consultants, produce high-quality, well-written, and visually appealing content to influence audiences: existing/potential clients; existing/potential employees; existing/potential funders; and peers. Content may include blogs, articles, infographics, policy briefs, videos, social media content, methodological tools, or interactive reports.
    Support Regional Lead and other senior leaders to raise their individual profiles and influence.

    Professional Development

    Identify areas for professional development that enable individual growth and skills expansion. Officer will work with an Advisor to develop a personalized professional development plan.
    Actively contribute to refining the role of the communications team to optimize activities and achieve strategic objectives.

    IDinsight perspective

    Work with the Communications Director and RED Director to identify communications goals and feedback loops to measure progress.
    Contribute to regional activities including strategy, team building, and other initiatives that create an enjoyable office and organizational culture.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant field – including economics, econometrics, public policy, communications, or journalism.

    4-7 years experience working with policymakers, NGOs, think tanks, research institutions, or strategic consulting.

    Job Description
    The Associate Director/Director will report to the East and Southern Africa Regional Director and will be supported by other Directors in the Region and IDinsight’s CEO. The Director will contribute to driving large pieces of IDinsight’s work and strategy in the East & Southern Africa Region. The Director will be supported by high-quality research teams, an excellent operations team that ensures a well-functioning organization, and a communications team to help amplify the Director’s voice in policy circles. They will be also provided with bi-annual performance reviews (including feedback from peers and direct reports) to help them continuously grow and learn as professionals.
    The Director will be provided significant autonomy to leverage IDinsight as a platform to drive social impact (in accordance with our mission and strategy), while also being held accountable for the clear goals that they will set for themselves in consultation with the East and Southern Africa Regional Director and other leaders at IDinsight.
    Each Director role at IDinsight is unique and tailored to specific individuals’ strengths. However, at a high level, this role will include:

     Develop and lead high-impact opportunities: Building on their experience, expertise, and networks, the Director will help conceptualize, secure, fundraise, and execute impactful initiatives that use data and evidence to drive change. All initiatives should be in line with IDinsight’s mission and strategy but can take various forms, ranging from direct client-service engagements to amplifying our partners’ impact, contributing to public knowledge products aimed at infusing data and evidence into important social sector debates.
     Lead, mentor, and guide project teams: Project leadership involves liaising with senior clients regularly, ensuring the highest standards of research quality and ethics, overseeing and mentoring teams (usually 3-5 Managers, with 10-15 members in total), ensuring a safe and enabling atmosphere for colleagues, and keeping within project budgets. Most importantly, Directors are expected to set and drive their projects toward achieving social impact.
     Be a thought leader, a trusted advisor, and an advocate for data-driven reforms : In addition to leading projects, Directors will be expected to apply their considerable experience, expertise, and skills to shape evidence-informed action within one or multiple sectors, regions, or specializations. This includes writing in leading newspapers and journals, speaking at important conferences, harnessing relationships and networks within the impact community to develop trusted advisory positions with senior leaders, and participating in consultative councils within governments, foundations, and/or non-profits.
     Contribute to IDinsight strategy : The Director will support the Regional Director and work alongside regional and global leadership teams to craft, refine and execute on realizing IDinsight’s strategy in the region.

    Manager, Finance Operations Manager, Operations Analytics

    About the role
    The Manager, Financial Operations oversees the areas of finance that occur between and across the financial planning and accounting functions, and he/she will report directly to the CFO. These operational areas include, but are not limited to, Treasury functions, such as Cash Management and Cash Forecasting, Procurement, Billing and Receivables, financial governance, due diligence, and policy. The Manager will also manage the finance vendor contracts and coordinate financial projects which span across the organization. The Manager will work with the CFO to create and present reporting for senior leadership, donors, and other stakeholders. In addition, the role holder will support Accounting on audit coordination and IRS reporting such as form 990, US GAAP research and compliance, and will coordinate other special projects on behalf of the CFO.
    This role is ideal for an experienced finance professional with strong organization skills, who is looking to further broaden their experience in the finance function within an organization, as well as get exposure to cross-organizational issues, projects, and executive leadership. This would also be an excellent role for an experienced financial professional looking to transition to the Social Sector and/or candidates from a consulting or accounting firm background who are transitioning to working within a company’s finance organization.
    The Manager should have experience in accounting, preferably including US GAAP, and Internal controls, as well as exposure to project management, with demonstrated success working across multiple functions in an organization. Prior work in international multi-entity environments is preferred. Those applying should expect a significant amount of work produced directly on their own and will also coordinate work across the organization. Further, the role holder can reside in the following locations; Kenya, Zambia, Senegal, or Morocco.
    Key Responsibilities:
    Treasury and Cash Forecasting (15-20%):

    Oversee and administer the banking relationships of the organization in multiple countries, and ensure that transactions are handled in the most cost-effective manner possible.
    Ensure appropriate management of cash balances across the organization’s legal entities in various countries.
    Ensure appropriate controls over cash transactions exist, are functioning as intended, and are monitored.
    Work together with the financial planning team on monthly cash forecasting, and proactively identify future actions to manage cash effectively.

    Procurement, Billing, & Finance Vendor management (15-25%):

    Oversee the procurement process:
    Ensure appropriate policy and process vendor management, vendor selection and bidding processes.
    Support client facing teams with requests for proposal and bidding processes.
    Ensure selections are appropriately documented.
    Complete due diligence on vendors.
    Oversee external financial vendors:
    Lead RFP process for financial vendors, including renewal processes for auditors.
    Negotiate contracts and renewals, where applicable.
    Manage 3rd party software relationships, and ensure appropriate billing for users.
    Implement appropriate vendor management processes.
    Ensure due diligence, controls, and adherence to policies, for processes and transactions related to vendors, including data security, OFAC compliance, AML, and other policies.
    Billing and Accounts Receivable:
    Oversee billing to clients.
    Ensure appropriate follow-up on amounts owed by clients.
    Monitor work in process balances.
    Provide appropriate reporting to management on the status of client balances.

    Financial Controls & Governance (15-25%):

    Oversee preparation of IRS Form 990, working with an external accounting firm.
    Prepare internal financial due diligence requirements for (potential) funders and clients.
    Oversee internal finance policies:
    Update Finance policies and procedures.
    Ensure appropriate documentation of processes.
    Ensure finance compliance with data security policies and procedures.
    Support accounting team with tracking, monitoring, and executing compliance to local policies and procedures.
    Identify, manage, and monitor enterprise risks that are related to finance.
    Coordinate with legal on compliance and governance matters.

    Finance Project Management & Leadership Financial Support (25-40%):

    Coordinate across all finance functions and with other Global support functions and regions, on projects and processes that span across the organization.
    Working with Senior Accounting Manager, Coordinate the annual audits for both consolidated and local audits.
    Provide Ad-hoc analysis, Reporting, and Presentations to support leadership on financial strategy and execution.
    Communicate effectively with teams across the organization to ensure processes are rolled out effectively initially and continue to function effectively.

    Does this sound like you?

    At least 8+ years of work experience in finance, with varied experience that covers all or most of the following: Financial planning, financial reporting, Accounting, Internal Controls, and Treasury.
    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant areas required. Master’s degree in a related area is an added advantage. .
    Professional accounting qualification – CPA/ACA/ACCA part II or equivalent is strongly preferred. Experience with US GAAP is an added advantage.
    Demonstrated success at building effective processes.
    Demonstrated ability to prepare effective presentations and other communications.
    Experience in a project-based client service environment is highly desirable.
    Highly organized and able to work independently.
    Thrives in fast paced environments and is excited by opportunities to explore and implement new ideas as our organization grows and changes.

    About the Impact Improvement Senior Associate Role
    The Senior Associate will be responsible for creating the tools, resources, and structures that enable our teams to do more. We are seeking candidates with a background in executing client-facing advisory projects in the social sector, with a passion for systematically enabling other teams to do such work better. Successful candidates should be able to create intuitive and effective tools and processes, inclusively engage with a variety of internal partners and clients, and meaningfully contribute to the evolution of a new function.
    The day-to-day responsibilities may include:

    Project management – Lead project planning, developing deliverables, and coordinating with contributors and users. Support full team to ensure project work is aligned with strategy.
    Internal client liaising – Work closely with our client-facing teammates to ensure this work is maximally useful for them. This would include designing and executing org-wide processes to solicit and rank ideas, coordinating with a user feedback and advisory board, soliciting inputs from technical experts, and working directly with project teams or regional office leadership.
    Resources and tools – Lead tool and resource creation including tool design, execution of contributing analytical processes, engagement of internal and external experts, and construction of high-quality outputs including guides, checklists, briefs and many possible other materials.
    Manage and build infrastructure – Update and organise resource infrastructure, including the Global Data Hub (Airtable), The Hub (google sites), and our Knowledge Management drive, to align with overall strategy.
    Strategy development and execution – Support the Impact Improvement Manager in designing and executing a new function. This may include research and benchmarking, strategy development and iteration, and determining team skills and structures.
    Organisational change management – Support the Impact Improvement Manager in ensuring client-facing teams across regions fully engage with and benefit from the resources developed by the new function.

    Qualifications

    We’re looking for an entrepreneurial, “get stuff done” teammate with 4-10 years of relevant experience.
