    Main Job Purpose

    This role entails work focused on 2 key distinct job aspects – Consumer Market Insights (CMI) & Net Revenue Management (NRM), with the output being identifying and assessing relevant growth opportunities for Unilever East Africa from a geography, category, channel & revenue perspective. The work will be done by a small team & this team will be lead by the Growth Analytics & CMI Manager. The job relies on working with the team using analytical abilities to deep dive into data from multiple sources to come up with relevant growth opportunities. The job also entails working with the Country Leadership Teams & the Country Category Business Teams (CCBTs) to instill a culture of data & insight driven action and provoke action around the growth opportunities.

    The person will lead a small team and have dual reporting into the CMI Director, Africa and Manager Director (MD), East Africa.

    The CMI vision is to inspire, provoke and drive transformation action. In this role, you will contribute to delivering the CMI vision by assisting the Africa CMI Director to business partner the East Africa Leadership Team (LT), and help deliver the EA strategy (as part of the broader Africa strategy).

    You will provide support to key marketing and Customer Development (CD) business partners and leaderships, mainly in the area of proactively identifying growth opportunities. The role is not only about ensuring the EA business has the right data to grow – but more importantly it is about turning this data into insights and actions that will drive strong growth. This will include strategic understanding of Markets, Categories, Customers and Channels at the regional level. Along with Channel and Category Development (CCD) CMI Director, you will also be responsible for the leading the relationship with our key agency partners.

    NRM is a key growth pillar for Unilever by identifying and unlocking revenue opportunities using different pillars. The job entails working closely with the global NRM team to unlock NRM lead growth opportunities for East Africa starting with Home Care as the lead category and then for BPC & F&R categories.

    Job Summary

    Support the CCD CMI Director to deliver a holistic insight & growth plan

    Provide deep, proactive locally relevant insights & trends to power growth of the business, as well as enable trend-led innovation and strategy powered by data.
    Provide support to local CCBTs; going beyond performance management input, to partnering to drive growth by division
    Pricing and promotional insights though ongoing insight via NRM
    Integration of Division and Country Insights in CCBT’s and CDLT’s

    Identifying and landing cross country, cross category strategic research to shape the strategy and drive growth. For example : Retail and Channel trade and opportunities, de-averaged demographic/economic/geographic opportunities. Distribution opportunities.
    Work collaboratively with CMI COEs to tap into the wealth of specialist capabilities within CMI as well as our partner agencies to maximise the impact from these specialist teams

    Bring power of Advanced Analytics COE to power NRM/pricing as well as inputs for dynamic resource allocation (DRA) decisions
    Partner with CMI Content and Connect COEs. to transform how we “Connect” with consumers based on relevant “Content” based on deep understanding on Consumer Journeys and Path to Purchase
    Partner with CMI U-Innov8 to embed new tech-enabled research techniques (relevant to EA), to deliver the mission of 2X impact in ½ the time and ½ the cost

    Run consumer connection programmes to ensure that EA keeps the consumer at the heart of everything it does

    Purpose of Role
    The role is responsible and accountable for proper professional maintenance of the MTH machines and other powered field technology equipment for grass cutting, pruning, weeding and digging of holes and others as and when they are introduced in the field.
    Key Responsibilities

    To develop a service schedule, plan the AM/PM of all MTH machines and other field technology equipment in the company ensuring full adherence to outlined guidelines as per manufacturer’s recommendation.
    Identify skills gaps of the Estate Mechanics and work with Field Technology Officer with the support of HR to develop a skills plan on annualbasis for continuous skills improvement. 
    To carry out required repairs to all MTH machines for use in the field and closely monitor availability of spares required for continuous operation and availability of MTH machines.
    Oversee the maintenance teams in all units and ensure that standard procedures and instructions for repairs are implemented. 
    Ascertain proper repairs, necessary testing and adjustments to control quality of repair work to accomplishment.
    Carry out fabrication of gliders, frameworks and any other parts as may be required for operational or safety purposes for fitting to MTH and other field technology machines.
    Assembly and testing of newly acquired MTH and other field technology machines.
    Visiting of MTH estate workshopsat the units to check adherence to maintenance, proper use and safety. Advise on proper operation and maintenance to all units.
    Participate in new designs for modifications and accurately maintain all project details drawings / designs and specification for regularly updating and quality assurance.

    Blending Skills With Below Requirements

    Evaluates the new blends as per Tasting Room SOP to pass/fail vs a blend specification or standard
    Evaluates blends on both physical, visual and sensory parameters
    Understands and exploits the interaction between different tea types to achieve a blend end result
    Understands and exploits the interaction between base blend and additives such as aroma/flavour (choice, dosage etc)
    Can construct a blend in a live system in accordance with a prescribed recipe and/or specification
    Can make the necessary changes to a blend if it has not passed the evaluation to ensure it meets the specification

    Co-ordinates all IC collections for Kenya’s exports. This involves liaising with treasury to make forex deals

    Working Capital

    Provides frequent updates on WC position to the group for timely action on gaps, focus currently being on stocks. This includes reconciling and providing support for Intercompany mismatches
    Monthly reporting of WC actuals and forecast submission to the SA team. WC forecast upload into Ifinance is a quarterly task.

    Rwanda

    Month end tasks including bank, AP (accounts payable) and AR (accounts receivable) revaluation.
    Update of monthly closing rates into SAP. This involves liaising with treasury to get the rates, and update them in the system monthly
    Transfer of costs incurred in Rwanda to Kenya. This is a monthly task, has tasks such as calculation of management fees (which means she must liaise with MR team for the month’s Turnover before transferring costs to Kenya)
    Reconciliation and clearing of payroll accounts
    Posting of bank statements, reconciling and clearing BOI – works with the Rwanda person

    Bank

    Country contact for bank open item queries. Assists CG reconcile judgemental transactions (e.g., offline payroll, monthly statutory submissions), provides bank statements where CG has no access
    Posting of payroll CBVs (and these are quite many – payments for exits statutory submissions journal postings
    Now prepares and submits closing rates to the CG team for update into SAP (previously used to be done by Janet)

    3rd party invoicing

    Preparation of Nairobi garage invoices and follow up of payments
    Verification and clearing of receipts from scrap sales and raw material customers (including Cargil receipts – this is a tea buying customer)

    Key Accountabilities
    1.Understand the Market

    To have an in-depth understanding of the way of working of the genuine market, including understanding where loopholes existing that could be exploited by counterfeiters.  The BP Manager also needs to understand local manufacturers, importers, traders and the supply chain “modus operandi” for counterfeits into the market.  The BP Manager will evaluate, interview and make recommendations on the best investigators to use within markets in East Africa.

    2.Understand the law

    To understand the laws pertaining to Trademark infringements within each country and to liaise with the Head, Brand Protection Africa and local Legal team to evaluate the best options, and most practical route to detection and prosecution of offenders and destruction of goods and effective deterrence and sentencing in the country.
    Networking within the Organization
    Must build a strong working relationship with preferably a cross functional team to help in effecting an overall appreciation and effectiveness of the BP work across East Africa.
    Collaborate with Quality team, Communication team as part of the steering committee agenda to drive BP agenda in East Africa.

    3.Training and Networking with the Authorities

    Arrange regular training programmes for Customs and other key enforcement officials within each market in East Africa. Work with Senior BP Manager, Africa to evaluate whether an MOU would be operationally and strategically beneficial. 
    Identify all key freight entry (sea and land) points and ensure that training is provided in line with risk for each point. 
    Work with Legal to ensure Trade Mark is recorded with Customs across all Markets in East Africa.
    Prepare and distribute update information and support documents to help officials identify potential counterfeits.  Ensure that key colleagues within Packaging R&D in country /in South Africa and other BP managers across Unilever are available to assist with prompt verification.

    4.Working with Manufacturers Associations and other Multinationals

    The role is responsible for developing relationships with other relevant Multinationals or FMCG Companies in East Africa and identifying where joint actions can be planned and learning shared in a more structured manner. 
    Local Manufacturers Associations should be utilized to create or enhance a focused IP protection / anti-counterfeiting group, but where other active trade associations exist, they should also be evaluated to consider which organization will deliver optimal benefit.

    5.Information Flow

    The role requires a full understanding and capability of use of the Global BP Tools; deliver rapid cross flow of information with (a) retained investigators; (b) Brand Protection Head, Africa; and (c) Other members of the wider Brand Protection teams in Africa and other Clusters.
    Create updated brand difference files on an ongoing basis and share them with the Global / Cluster Teams as appropriate.
    Report all raid actions and ensure that retained investigators and CD personnel report all sightings of new counterfeits into the Global Database ‘GUARD’. (Training will be delivered by the Global Brand Protection Team working with the Brand Protection Head, Africa).

    6.Managing the Brand Protection Team.

    The Brand Protection Manager may be responsible for one or two staff members and manage a budget; part of this budget will be spent on  (a)  training, (b)  activations and also on one or more (c)    Third party contractors who are responsible for investigations.
    The majority of these suppliers will be on annual contracts, although there will be some ad hoc activities and actions being run through other suppliers.
    Manage and control these suppliers, ensuring that they meet their individual targets within the overall budget requirements.
    Be aware of Unilever’s Code of Business Principles, and their application, particularly in regard to these third party investigative agencies and ensure that they are all signed up to appropriately locally modified (by local Legal) Guidelines to Private Investigators acting for Unilever.

    7.Working with Customer Development.

    Ensure all employees especially those of CD (Customer Development) are regularly up to date on BP issues; reporting requirements when any counterfeits are found in the trade.
    Arrange training sessions for the CD & KD (Key Distributor) teams and ensure that they are fully aware of the problem and are able to understand the basic indicators and report any product suspected to be counterfeits & grays from Unilever genuine products.
    Train and supervise the field sales operators on how to use the report a suspect product tool. Also include all new employees from time to time.
    He/She is also to work with the KDs through the (Field Sales Representatives)  and coordinate BP activities in the trade which includes training the DSRs (Delivery Sales Representatives) and Merchandisers to constantly conduct on-the job education of retailers on BP responsibility/value and conduct qualitative checks at each retail calls.

    8.Legal Support

    Identify legal risks and helps the business navigate them, providing legally compliant creative solutions which deliver competitive advantage to the business objectives taking into account compliance, reputation, cost, risk and other consequences.
    Contracts and other legal documents –Review and draft legal contracts and other legal documents
    Litigation Support – Unilever representation at court sessions and follow up of external advocates to deliver value for legal fees paid.
    Facilitate appropriate legal documentation and witnesses for the litigation process responsible for litigation update reports
    Legal review – Facilitate the availability of laws and regulations relevant to company operations research and review laws and regulations regulating the company advisor on all changes to laws and regulations
    Services Management/ Rates & Rents – Insurance and licensing manage the company’s lease portfolio alert the relevant functions on expiry of leases and facilitate renewal and termination of leases facilitate payment of rent and rates.

    Key Responsibilities

    Liaise with other Finance operations to ensure the business pays the correct taxes on time.
    Coordinate all the Tax audits for UTK.

    Key Requirements

    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent professional qualifications
    CPA K/ACCA
    Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a professional Tax services is a must.
    Excellent understanding of the business Tax regime in Kenya
    Sound knowledge of Accounting principles and practices
    Excellent planning and organization skills

Oversee the maintenance teams in all units and ensure that standard procedures and instructions for repairs are implemented. Ascertain proper repairs, necessary testing and adjustments to control quality of repair work to accomplishment. Carry out fabrication of gliders, frameworks and any other parts as may be required for operational or safety purposes for fitting to MTH and other field technology machines. Assembly and testing of newly acquired MTH and other field technology machines. Visiting of MTH estate workshops at the units to check adherence to maintenance, proper use and safety. Advise on proper operation and maintenance to all units. Participate in new designs for modifications and accurately maintain all project details drawings / designs and specification for regularly updating and quality assurance.

    Qualifications
