Your scope will include supporting all the sites and accountable for the delivery of our yearly PI targets. You will be driving the adoption of Syngenta’s Flowers strategy, aiming to optimize the production process.

    The Challenge

    The process Improvement Lead EAME is responsible for the implementation of PI according to the needs of the business. With your expertise, you will be supporting the different teams to develop and contribute on improvements. You will analyze the KPI’s to detect trends or deviations and generate proposals, taking into account the budget and make use of your PI tools. As a part of your job you will be leading the six-sigma training in EAME to generate more popularity in the region.

    To succeed in this highly challenging position, you must have Technical certificates in Engineering, Agricultural Sciences or Supply Chain Management, with a 5 years + experience in a Technical and production environment.     Key Responsibilities

    Coordinates and distribute labour to different sections as per work requirements and allocates tasks to the technicians and ensures they are completed within budget regarding the production schedules.
    Ensures standards of routine Safety Maintenance and Control (SAMACO) procedures are adhered to, to increase the efficiency of maintenance process, thus reducing equipment down time and achieving annual cost savings.
    Prepares bill of quantities for equipment, tools, parts, and materials accurately and follow up on delivery and participates in reception of specialized equipment to check on compliance to specifications and company standards.
    Organizes the execution of routine inspection, service, and maintenance works, establishes and revises schedule of services (maintenance log) and procedures for such activities while ensuring proper utilization and control of resources to ensure systems reliability.

    Facilitates availability and maintenance of transportation vehicles and plant for efficient movement of goods and services.

    Accountabilities

    The Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (“SFSA”) is an independent legal entity from the Syngenta Group. SFSA’s vision is a bright future for smallholder farming. Its mission is to strengthen smallholder farming and food systems by catalysing market development and innovation, while building capacity across the public and private sectors.
    Syngenta Foundation East Africa Limited (“SFEA”) is the Kenyan charity based in Nairobi established by SFSA to further its mission in the region.
    SFSA has Country and Regional Directors in its main countries and regions. As a key member of the SFSA leadership team, the Regional Director is responsible for helping develop, evolve and implement the strategic direction of the Syngenta Foundation in East Africa (with primary focus on Kenya) in accordance with its 2025 Strategy, taking SFEA to successively higher levels of impact and influence the context of East Africa. on agricultural transformation and modernization aligned with the targeted outcomes set out in the 2025 Strategy.
    In pursuance of the 2025 Strategy, the Regional Director is also responsible for identifying and engaging local programme partners, delivering the regional strategy into programmes of work with a yearly plan and budget, measuring and achieving the objectives therein.
    She/he is also responsible for managing relationships with key players in the agricultural industry (private and public), for managing and building team capacity and coordinating efficiently the country resources across Streams and supporting with fund raising.
    The Regional Director is also responsible for promoting and ensuring local operations and staff compliance with Syngenta and SFSA policies and all local regulations.

    Lead the initial development of successful business models for existing and new investments that link small-holder farmers to agricultural and food value chains before handing them over the country stream representatives.
    Engage strategic partners to grow, replicate and scale-up successful models in East Africa (with primary focus in Kenya). Support synergies across Streams in the country.
    Lead and manage SFSA’s people development initiatives in the region in order to build capacity and competencies of the relevant SFSA team in East Africa.
    Help Stream Leads in recruiting streams’ staff in East Africa and manage career and succession planning.
    Prepare annual reports, and work closely with SFSA communication team to oversee preparation of case studies, lessons learned and other documents which can be used for external communication.
    Manage financial, HR and admin functions locally, coordinating with relevant support functions from SFSA and Syngenta, especially in managing the provision of local assistance in organising visits from SFSA teams outside of Kenya to the region, and adherence to the health and safety and security guidelines of all local staff and visitors. Ensure country team compliance with SFSA values and all SFSA policies (Finance, HR, Legal and Ethical, code of conduct, Health and Safety at work, Procurement, etc.) and all the requirements by the local authorities.     Plan and execute GH/growing area climate management, monitoring and prompt data collection and sharing with relevant team mates for timely decision making.
    Train the scouts and the general workforce on scouting and simple disease, pest and weeds identification techniques and maintain training records.
    Ensure and oversee regular training and proficient testing of spray operators.
    Administer proficiency tests, evaluate results, use them to design remedial and future trainings and provide them to auditors when needed.
    Ensure execution of laboratory tests/investigations on plant tissue/soil/seed and water to help in disease diagnosis.
    Ensure records of inspections, scouting reports, crop treatment, irrigation and feeding, seed health, audits and risk assessments are kept properly in easily retrievable formats and locations and are reviewed per procedure or when need arises.
    Oversee preparation for and execution of quality and system audits, follow up and closure of any gaps/non-conformities and organizes sharing of learnings and best practices within and between sites.
    Help your reports to set performance goals, evaluate them and take necessary remedial actions to close any performance gaps identified.
    Oversight and coordinate the Kenya Plant Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) support to the site.
    Effectively communicate and liaise on a regular basis with site head, crop managers, Technicians, assistant technicians and breeders, on matters QMS, accreditation, phytopathology, crop protection, crop nutrition and general site hygiene and sanitation.
    Ensure the Tomato GSPP programme is run strictly per protocol to maintain accreditation status.
    Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all health and safety related company policies and practices, including completing all required company training courses – online or otherwise.
    Manage the crop protection team- both temps and permanents ensuring adherence to rotation programs in line with requirements.

    Develop accurate knowledge in plan disease and pest management of the various crop species in Greenhouse and open field.

    Desired Skills and Experience
    Critical knowledge

    A Degree in Agriculture/Horticulture, crop protection science or Biological sciences.
    Understanding of plant growth and nutrition is essential and experience in growing crops is desirable.
    Knowledge and/or experience in crop protection and or quality management systems is desirable.
    A basic understanding of plant genetics or breeding systems would only be an added advantage.
