    Production Manager

    Role Purpose

    To Secure Flowers Production processes and ensure a reliable system is in place for sustainable performance from the employees and other assets to achieve Syngenta’s objective of delivering quality flower cuttings to our customers in the agreed specifications on time and right quantity

    Accountabilities

    Direct people responsibility: Responsible for the supervision and giving direction to all direct reports who will include, Production Leads and Senior Supervisors.
    Responsible for growing plants: Growing the PS1, PS2 and PS mother stock and eventual production of quality cuttings using the best possible balance between cost and quality. Ensuring optimal plant growth regulator application for production of the agreed profile and toning the cuttings.
    Responsible for process organization: Organize and build multiplication processes and coordinate resources in order to run the Production department efficiently and in line with the set objectives.
    Responsible for production excellence: Improve production methods to maximize yields/quality and drive innovation. This includes know how to organize and develop tested best practice and innovative techniques.
    Responsible for plant nutrition: Irrigation systems, Fertilization, Climate control, growing media and management of water sterilization.
    Crop protection: In coordination with the Crop protection Lead where applicable, Prepare and optimize weekly pest and disease control program and implementation for the whole farm. Responsible for the implementation of IPM programs in the farm.
    Phytosanitary and quality: In close coordination with the Phytosanitary specialist and the Quality Assurance Lead, ensure production department processes attain and maintain high phytosanitation standards.
    Production Planning: Translate the required demands coming from planning into a production plan for the season and ensure expected availability. Evaluate the potential of the plants and translate it into data in order to provide precise calculations for the production plan. Season Production planning includes space planning, PS1 URC quantity planning and ordering, PS1 and PS2 planting planning and execution and required material planning.
    Season Labor planning: In co-ordination with the Labor Planner/HRM, budget and request to hire seasonal labor based on production operations demand. Strict follow-up of the labor forecast and control on deviations to avoid any financial exposure and lose of cost control.
    People management: Responsible for building a strong and trusting team which is agile, training and motivation of all personnel reporting to you. You will understand process critical parameters and develop appropriate KPI and target setting for your department and manage them to meet QUOTIF. (Yield and quality) at lowest possible price.
    Production research: Organization and successful execution of production and improvement trials.
    Process improvement: Responsible for the implementation of all process improvement initiatives in the production department
    Data base management: Manage production data related to both crops and people
    Monthly reports: Prepare and send to the Site manager monthly report as per set requirements.
    HSE: Support all HSE initiatives and implementation in the production department.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    The ideal candidate must possess the following qualification and competencies:

    A Bachelors’ degree in Agriculture or Horticulture
    A Masters’ degree in Agriculture/Horticulture or Business administration will be an added advantage
    7 years’ experience as a senior grower, crop manager or as an agronomist
    Thorough knowledge of horticulture business production, end to end
    Ability to do departmental budgeting and follow up on the implementation of the same within the specified timelines
    Good interpersonal and communication skills.
    Must possess a proven track record of leading teams with good problem-solving skills

    The Project agronomist will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day implementation of all sorghum production (among other value chains), aggregation and marketing activities in the interventional areas with guidance from the Agricultural Services Operations Lead. He/she will work to ensure that field-based activities related to rural agri-entrepreneurs empowerment, service delivery, small holder farmers extension support, input and output requirements for sorghum production, field data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and learning is appropriately delivered. He/she will be the focal person for the farmers production hubs and act as the liaison between the project implementation team at SFEA, the implementing partners and stakeholders at the county level.
    The Project Agronomist will report to the Agricultural Services Operations Lead with close collaboration with the project consortium member organizations.

    Key Roles And Responsibilities.

    Provide support in the overall oversight of the interventional activities at the county level in relation to entrepreneurs and farmers recruitment and empowerment, sorghum production, aggregation, and marketing/supply to EAML.

    Job Description
    The NICE project county coordinator will be responsible for overseeing day to day implementation all the activities at the county level with the guidance of the project manager. He/She will work with the project manager to ensure field-based activities related to strengthening food systems governance, enhance availability and production of affordable, healthy, and diverse agroecologically produced local foods, ensuring that city populations have increased knowledge, demand and consumption of nutritious and agroecologically produced food and finally support in knowledge management and learning. He/she will be the focal person at the county level liaising between the project implementation team at SFEA, the implementing partners and stakeholders at the county level.
    Key Roles Responsibilities.

    Coordination and stakeholder activation activities
    Provide support in the overall oversight of the 4 workstreams at the county level in relation to governance, supply, demand and scale up.
    Work closely with the county leadership with a focus on the food systems governance, identify platforms for engagement at the county level.

    Workstream 1: Governance

    Support the project manager and liaise with the cities to agree which platform will be used to convene stakeholders on nutrition at city level.
    Provide information about the composition of this platform end particularly ensure the involvement of women and youths in the city platforms – noting that we have a KPI to increase the involvement of women and youth – and it should be multisectoral (public and private actors, civil society).
    Facilitate value chain prioritization processes with main stakeholders and ensure that all value chain actors in the city foodsheds work together.
    Coordinate regular documented meetings with the platform (working with a focal point appointed by the County Director in each city).
    Facilitate a planning process for nutrition activities , which should be resourced in the cities.
    Coordinate the use of the platform for capacity building activities

    Workstream 2: Supply

    Target audience: Ensure women and youth are actively involved in all activities on the production side.
    Agroecology: Support the assessment surveys and the building of capacity in agroecology, using local experts in this domain.
    Partnership: Engage with local partners to introduce appropriate entrepreneurial social business models and leverage private sector expertise to support this process.
    Project management: Follow up, track project activities with the implementation partners to make sure it is completed in time. Examine and address any bottlenecks that arise with the project coordinator and local and international partners.

    Workstream 3: Demand

    Work hand in- hand with the PM to ensure implementation of all activities related to demand creation which include
    Oversee formative research to better understand which foods are appreciated locally and what current agricultural and cooking practices are.
    Examine how to engage with this information using expertise from consumer insights
    Develop communication messages that are intricately linked to the foods that will be
    promoted in outcome 2
    Promote the dissemination of messaging through different channels, e.g. a whole city approach of SBCC campaigns.
    Work closely with a consultant to engage the health and education sectors as important intermediaries with the city population for promoting messages about diverse, nutritious and agroecological foods.
    Look out for opportunities to address the question of Gender-Based Harassment and Violence

    Workstream 4: Learning and scale up

    Organize learning and exchange events between the cities.
    Coordinate multi stakeholders to participate in peer learning sessions, experience sharing and scale up of activities.

    Demonstrate expertise in facilitation, capacity building and fostering partnerships through formal trainings.

    ROLE PURPOSE

    Accountabilities

    Identify, shortlist, contracting and engage both structured and unstructured off takers to ensure availability of farm produce market for Syngenta farmers which in turn will boost Syngenta’s sales through input financing
    Work closely with the Syngenta Community Extension Service Providers (CESPs) to develop and maintain growers’ harvest calendars to ensure proactive offtake engagement
    Support Syngenta’s partner FSPs in ensuring loan repayment through availing market linkage opportunities to financed farmers.
    Work closely with the Syngenta Community Extension Service Providers (CESPs) to ensure train growers on minimum quality standards preferred by buyers to guarantee the best quality and variety of produce for specific off takers
    Liaise with buyers to map out produce requirements for offtake based on variety and market demand, cascade information to Regional managers with aim to guarantee best quality.
    With the support of the Project Manager, develop and maintain farm produce prices across different markets to ensure Syngenta farmers are linked to the best available market linkage opportunities.
    Ensure that Syngenta farmers are paid in full for the collected produce
    Maintain a database of farmers linked to the market by crop, volume traded, location, off taker, unit cost among other important details
    Document all lessons learned and communicate them effectively to the Project Manager to ensure improvements to our strategy and/or operations related to enabling farmers to get access to market.
    Provide support by collecting, relaying and analysing market information such as prevailing market prices, different crop varieties and quality required by each market
    Together with the Project Manager, collaborate closely with the Community Extension Service Providers (CESPs) to ensure that all parties involved in the Syngenta’s input financing model (Syngenta, FSPs and farmers) are linked and well-coordinated.

    Qualifications

    Description

    Role Purpose

    Act as the key partner to Business Area Head and together with respective Busines Area Leadership Team drive strategy and delivery of financial targets
    Full accountability to manage P&L and deliver financial targets for respective Business Area and credit management activities
    Manage statutory and tax accounting processes in BA and related compliance activities
    Active participation in the development and implementation of the relevant operational plans to ensure clarity of the financial impact, including support of evaluation of new businesses and models
    Through appropriate balance of short, medium, and long-term financial planning and monitoring
    drive effective and efficient delivery of business goals with sound financial analysis and advice,
    drive the delivery of budgets and forecasts,
    challenge the resource allocation and income generation pro-actively raising issues and driving resolution.
    Provide management with sound risk-based analysis on potential impacts, implications and propose potential ways to mitigate risks on key economic and commercial exposures.
    Drive productivity and simplification in finance and related business processes in the relevant functional/business scope
    Support / lead as appropriate BA strategic initiatives and projects or beyond assigned BA depending on the business needs
    Implement effective governance model in BA driving full compliance of activities and processes for group and local purposes.

    Accountabilities

    Represent Finance function to the Business Area Leadership Team
    Support development and implementation of respective strategies for assigned Business Area
    Utilizing key agronomic indicators, deliver 5-year plans and budgets. Ensure effective resource prioritization based on sound risk-based cost / benefit analysis
    Provide business management with sound risk-based analysis on potential impacts, implications and propose potential ways to improve risk management on key economic exposures
    Provide functional expertise in key projects within BAs or specific regional projects
    P&L accountability for the Business Area; drive actions to support stronger cash-flow generation for the company, including optimization of working capital
    Act as Productivity Ambassador; help origination to embrace Productivity mindset across all teams in Business Are
    Lead financial processes across P&L scope connecting with various stakeholders
    P&L and working capital management
    Latest Outlook and Risks & Opportunities management
    Coordinate planning cycle: sales and GP forecast, S&OP preparation
    Lead the annual budget preparation process
    5-Year-Plan preparation and strategy co-creation with Business Area Leadership Team(s)
    Co-create and review commercial terms and policies (price model, i.e. discounts / rebates / incentive plans), contracts, support of commercial processes (e.g. Battle Plans, in-season commercial terms tactics) and new business models (financial consideration and frameworks for strategic business projects)
    Manage credit & collection activities
    In collaboration with Finance Operations team, act as Company assets custodian, ensure proper accounting policies, effective process governance and Control Framework maintained in the area of responsibility
    Member and active contribution in BA Leadership Team & BU AME Finance Leadership team
    Ensure local statutory and tax books are complete and accurate on a real time basis and get submitted to appropriate authorities on time and according the valid standards. This relates to all statutory and tax filings (corporate income tax, local statistics, local taxes, VAT related taxes, etc.).
    Ensure assets and liabilities in the balance sheet represent a true and fair value in compliance with local statutory and tax principles and guidelines.
    Ensure governance model is executed and related processes are fully compliant with group and local policies / regulations.
    Ensuring a good internal control framework & ultimately accountable for following through on all relevant compliance issues.
    As a Board member, take accountability and ownership for financial matters of the legal entity. If not as member of the Board, ensure effective stakeholder communication towards Board of Directors regarding finance matters of the legal entity.
    Be a sound and responsive face to local legal, tax and external audit bodies, including facilitating tax audits.
    Lead/participate in projects either from a license to operate or operational excellence perspective.

    BSc. in Finance, Commerce, Economics or its equivalent.

    Experience in working with cross functional teams and ability to work with all levels of the organisation
    Experience in influencing key stakeholders towards adopting and aligning to relevant procedures and tools
    Exposure to commercial operations
    Experience in working with multi-cultural and virtual teams, coordination of work of others without direct reporting line
