    Political Analyst

    The Position
    The Political Analyst will lead context and conflict analyses and analyze political developments in and across Kenya, focusing on the project’s target counties, which can change based on shifts in context.  S/he will develop and maintain a wide range of contacts across all sectors of society.  In addition, the Political Analyst will accompany project staff on field trips as necessary and report on observations and prevailing political context throughout the country. S/he will also support analysis of trends on social media. The Political Analyst is responsible for ensuring that the project is grounded in evidence and relevant to the on-going situation on the ground. The Analyst assists the project by providing contextual knowledge and understanding, supporting the project to adapt and improve in response to shifting dynamics.
    Essential Responsibilities
    INFORMATION GATHERING AND ANALYSIS

    Through research and contacts in Kenyan civil society, political structures, mainstream and social media, youth, and others, gather information and develop analyses for the purposes of preparing written reports and providing regular briefings that inform program implementation and adaptation.
    Conduct context and conflict analyses with stakeholders including partners, government, and target groups.
    Utilize data and analysis in order to forecast political, economic and social trends.
    Accompany staff to field sites for the purpose of information gathering, analysis, and reporting on political and social developments.
    Track news and highlight key political and security developments, and incorporate such findings in reports and analysis.
    Actively participate in and/or co-facilitate assessment and capacity development processes with partner organizations.
    Participate in the co-creation of context relevant and demand driven activities to be implemented in target locations.
    In collaboration with the country security focal point, advise and guide staff on the design and execution of in-country travel.
    Support on liaison with the Government of Kenya, and other external constituencies for programming and interventions.
    Maintain and update an extensive stakeholder contact database.

    REPORTING AND MEETINGS

    Schedule and coordinate meetings, activities, and appointments, including hosting events.
    Attend periodic programmatic meetings and relevant sectoral coordination forums as / when necessary and provide written summaries.
    Draft correspondence and other materials and maintain their records.

    OTHER

    Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian and development mission.

    Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

    Bachelor’s degree in any subject is required – BS/BA in political science, peace/conflict studies, development, or any other comparable degree preferred;
    Minimum of five (5) years of work experience, including a senior position with Kenyan public service, GOK, or non-governmental organization working in multiple regions of Kenya
    At least three (3) years of experience in monitoring and reporting policy, politics, and/or human rights, or a closely related field. Such experience must have involved sustained interaction with diverse social interests, the international diplomatic community, and non-governmental organizations.
    A close familiarity with and a demonstrated ability to analyze issues and problems related to democracy, governance, political violence, and elections is required. Previous experience with Kenyan elections and conflict mitigation required.
    Language Proficiency: Fluent speaking/reading/writing English and Kiswahili is required. Additional local languages are preferred.
    Job Knowledge: Must have good knowledge of Kenyan national and county-level political institutions, structure, party system, social and development issues, and historical development. Must understand political trends and the operations of NGOs in the democracy and governance sector.
    Must have basic knowledge of MS Office applications such as Word, Excel and MS Outlook.
    Must possess strong analytical and communication skills, including an ability to prepare analytic and spot reports of significant depth and complexity in precise and accurate form under tight time deadlines.
    Demonstrates ability to maintain an extensive range of Kenyan contacts and interact with a wide range of people of varying status and backgrounds, including engaging effectively with government officials as well as with civil society, youth and other community leaders.

    General Position Summary
    The IT Business Invoice Coordinator will oversee subscription-based accounts and billing processes for cloud services. S/he will work with various departments / programs to acquire approved purchase requests and other supporting documentation in order to process invoices for payment. S/he will work closely with Procurement, Corporate and International Finance to ensure all procurement and accounting policies and procedures are followed.
    Essential Responsibilities
    ACCOUNTS MANAGEMENT

    Administer subscription-based accounts for cloud services;
    Manage cloud hosted accounts billing processes;
    Allocate and track licenses and subscriptions costs for various cloud-based services used by Mercy Corps;
    Process invoice payments relating to cloud-based services. 

    SUPPORT SERVICES

    Liaise with respective departments and programs to obtain duly completed purchase requests with accurate cost allocation codes, approval signatures and other supporting documentation for invoices processing;
    Process IT invoices for payment;
    Develop and maintain purchasing-invoice processing related instructions, documentation and other user materials on the department SharePoint Communications site
    Liaise and coordinate with Global, Regional and Field IT Admins in providing financial codes and guidelines
    Liaise with Corporate Finance and International Finance to develop and implement new procedures that streamline processing of IT purchases and invoice payments
    Act as liaison with Procurement on various tasks relating to IT purchases.
    Ensure proficiency of Mercy Corps FP3 and HP3 procedures and guidelines.
     Coordinate major IT events: conferences, workshops, regional summits and coordinate logistics including venue identification, catering alongside with other tasks to ensure successful events;

    The Program/Department
    The Mercy Corps Finance Department is responsible for all financial functions in Nairobi, Lodwar, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa, Mombasa, Maralal, and Isiolo for the following functions; accounting, payments and banking, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, and grant financial management and compliance. The Mercy Corps Finance Department ensures compliance with donor regulations as well as Mercy Corps’ internal policies and procedures.  In its role as a support to the Program Department, the Finance Department provides timely reports and assistance to the Country Director and the Program team to ensure that financial resources are used efficiently and effectively.
    The Position
    The Senior Finance and Sub Grants Officer works under the guidance and supervision of the Kenya Country Finance Director and with direct interaction with the Program leads, Managers, Finance and Sub grants staff specific to respective programs without substantive Finance & Grants team, Consortium Members and the Mercy Corps Finance Team. The Senior Finance and Sub Grants Officer is expected to be an integral part of the senior management team in-country and work closely with the management, technical and operations field and country teams in Kenya.
    Essential Responsibilities
    GRANT ADMINISTRATION

    Conduct day to day management and implementation of the grants work plan under Mercy Corps.
    Propose revisions to grant processes and procedures based on experience and lessons learned and coordinate proposed changes with the Program Manager(s) and Finance and Compliance Director.
    Responsible for the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for grant activities that feed into the overall program report.
    Draft the agreements less than the value drafted by HQ.
    Review the agreements drafted by HQ.
    Ensure that grant activities comply with Mercy Corps internal policies and procedures, as well as Donor rules and regulations.
    Participate in the development and implementation of the program’s annual work plans.
    Manage and Support Finance team with other grants or finance sector activities.
    Coordinate expenditure verification and project audits
    Ensure that field staff are familiar with grants management procedures.
    Lead and support the partners budget development during proposal development

    PRE-AWARD

    Conduct a pre-award assessment for pre-approved sub-recipients.
    Work closely with the technical team to identify potential areas of support, eligibility and evaluation criteria.
    Work with selected grantees to ensure budgets are in line with program activities and that costs are reasonable, allowable and allocable.
    Conduct due diligence assessments on all grants including business feasibility, evaluate environmental requirements and document negotiation process for all prospective grantees.
    Work closely with the M&E Team in developing M&E plans to ensure that they are contributing to specific indicators and outcomes

    POST-AWARD

    Conduct post-award trainings for the sub-recipients on grants administration, applicable donor regulations and reporting requirements.
    Identify sub-recipient/grantee capacity building needs and provide technical assistance where needed and trainings to assure compliance.
    Review sub-recipient/grant reports for accuracy and completeness and regularly monitor their budgets vis-a-vis financial reports and process payments/reimbursements as appropriate.
    Conduct grantee site visits as appropriate including financial monitoring of grants and cost share to ensure proper accounting of grant funds awarded.
    Maintain complete and accurate files for all sub-recipient/grant files as per the Field Finance Manual.
    Input the financial reports in Navigator and reconciling them regularly.
    Serve as primary point of contact for all correspondence and notifications to grant applicants and grantees.

     CLOSE-OUT

    Coordinate the close-out of sub-recipients/grants. This will involve preparing relevant close-out documents for approval such as disposition documentation, modification agreements on close out, close out checklists, release of liability documentation etc.

  • Data and Information Systems Advisor

    Data and Information Systems Advisor

    The Program 
    USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (USAID/BHA) awarded funding to a Mercy Corps-led consortium of Kenyan and international partners for a 5-year Development Food Security Activity (DFSA) in Turkana and Samburu Counties of Kenya. Through a phased approach that emphasizes evidence gap analysis, as well as partnership, learning, and co-creation with government, civil society, communities, and the private sector, the NAWIRI program aims to drive sustained reductions in acute malnutrition in both counties. Mercy Corps’ consortium brings together the global leadership, research capacity, technical expertise, and implementation experience necessary to collaborate with local institutions to test, adapt, and scale evidence-based solutions. The program requires a robust county-centered design with government leadership, active engagement from communities, the private sector, and civil society. Together we will sustainably reduce persistent acute malnutrition for vulnerable populations in Turkana and Samburu counties
    The Position
    The Data and Information Systems Advisor will be seconded to work directly under the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, in the Directorate of Monitoring and Evaluation under the Department of Economic Planning and Finance, with oversight support from USAID Nawiri Monitoring and Evaluation Lead. The Data and Information Systems Advisor will be responsible for supporting efforts to improve the capacity of county Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Unit and county sector department teams in data management systems, operationalizing the GIS initiatives and support data use for decision-making. The Advisor will support activities to improve efficiencies of existing county-based and national data management systems to generate complete, accurate and timely data for analysis and use. S/he will work to harmonize the use of existing systems at the county level, and ensure the directorate achieves its goals and corresponding objectives and targets. In addition, s/he will provide data management support to the M&E departmental focal persons on a day-to-day basis, help strengthen data checks and ensure data is of high quality. S/he will support information system strengthening efforts that support nutrition outcomes at county level, including working with department of health in linking community health data to the County Health Information System, harmonization of departmental data through CIMES, and Support NDMA data dissemination efforts at county, sub-county and wards level. Support county government systems toward use of context monitoring for scenario planning to achieve journey to self-reliance.
    Essential Responsibilities

    Provide support to county M&E department to ensure the Unit achieves its goals and corresponding objectives and targets;
    Provide technical support in results reporting, documentation of M&E activities and indicator results for progress, monthly, bi annual and annual reports, as appropriate;
    Lead strategic collaboration activities with key stakeholders including sectors to learn from Program data and adapt interventions as appropriate;
    Lead efforts to utilize training monitoring systems to track and monitor trainers and participants at training events to facilitate follow-up and documentation;
    Use data to contribute towards strategic decision-making, knowledge management, sharing best practices and program planning with program team;
    Lead efforts to adopt and scale up the use of spatial data/GIS for reporting and decision making in the county to inform resource planning and allocation;
    Defining new data collection and analysis processes especially those linked reducing persistent acute malnutrition;
    Build capacity of sector M&E leads to identifying patterns and trends in data sets available at county level and support platform for sharing and learning across department;
    Oversee and/or conduct targeted evaluations, including design, support in data collection, management and analysis
    Ensuring data is entered, analyzed, documented and written, and disseminated;
    Work closely with the county M&E Unit to coordinate all M&E capacity-building activities with departmental M&E focal persons and program team;
    Lead in quantitative and qualitative methodologies, reporting, data quality assessments, data analysis and presentation
    Lead data use platforms at county, sub-county and ward level including supporting Ward Development processes;
    Strengthen collaboration and networking between department, national government agencies and implementing partners;
    Support learning activity at county-level and ensuring that learning champions are identified and have favorable work environment to sustain learning momentum.

    Develop the necessary relationships and partnerships with all government departments at county and national levels, as well as implementing partners in the county;

    The Program
    Girls Improving Resilience through Livelihoods and Health (GIRL-H) is a three-year multi-country program implemented in Kenya northern frontier counties of Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Wajir, Garissa and Marsabit.  GIRL-H program seeks to improve girls’ well-being by increasing their access to and uptake of life skills, health information, basic numeracy and literacy, and financial literacy, as well as foster pathways to formal education, economic opportunities, and civic engagement. GIRL-H also seeks to build an enabling environment through 1) educating communities to transform gender and social norms so that girls are valued and access their basic human rights; 2) working with the public and private sectors to foster opportunities for education, safe livelihoods and financial inclusion; and 3) collaborating with local community-based organizations and government to scale the GIRL-H model.
    The Position
    The SRH Program Officer will provide technical support to the successful implementation of the SRH component within the GIRL-H program in Kenya. S/he will lead the development, planning, implementation and coordination of SRH activities ensuring quality outputs and timely completion of project deliverables. SRH program Officer will train staff and partners, providing them with technical assistance; and ensuring that common strategies and approaches are applied consistently in all communities.     Essential Responsibilities
    PROGRAM MANAGEMENT.

    The Program
    With funding from USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), Mercy Corps’ Nawiri Program is leading a consortium of Kenyan and international partners on a five year journey to sustainably reduce persistent acute malnutrition in Turkana and Samburu Counties of Kenya. Through a phased approach that emphasizes evidence gap analysis, as well as partnership, learning, and co-creation, the program takes a robust county-centered design with government leadership, active engagement from communities, the private sector, and civil society. Mercy Corps’ consortium brings together global leadership, research capacity, technical expertise, and implementation experience to partner with local institutions to test, adapt, and scale evidence-based solutions to sustainably reduce persistent acute malnutrition for vulnerable populations in Turkana and Samburu counties. Together we will sustainably reduce persistent acute malnutrition for vulnerable populations in Turkana and Samburu counties.
    The Position
    The County Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Officer will provide program implementation support to county and Nawiri’s efforts in creating a stable and nutrition enabling environment, through improving institution coordination, community level watershed planning and water resources management strategies. He/she will collaborate with county government, consortium partners, local CSOs and community to deliver effective, participatory activities and efficient processes to address water resources risks, including long-term water stresses that constrain social and economic development with a view of building ecosystems resilience. He/she will provide a collaborative planning with county, Water Resources Authority (WRA), communities and other stakeholders to develop and implement Multiple-Use Water Systems (MUS) and interventions to augment local sources of supply through intervention such as climate proof water harvesting technologies and managed aquifer recharge whilst strengthening existing community-based water tenure arrangements to ensure interventions are woven into the fabric of local institutional arrangements for managing water resources.
    Essential Responsibilities
    PROGRAM PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION

    In a joint-planning and agreed upon targeted approach with Samburu County, communities and other stakeholders, identify suitable approaches and locations for implementation of integrated water resources management initiatives and approval of the same;
    Develop detail implementation plan aligned with USAID Nawiri’s overall Water Resources management strategy, works schedule and ensure tracking of the same for timely projects delivery;
    Collaborate with county and other stakeholders to enhance resilience of the green and blue water economy and overall water sector by ensuring access to and efficient use of water for agriculture, domestic, livestock, and other productive uses;
    Foster cross-sectoral policy approach in undertaking IWRM initiatives and the understanding that water resource is an integral component of the ecosystem, a natural resource, a social and economic good to enhance enabling environment for reduction in persistent acute malnutrition (PAM);
    Support Nawiri efforts in development and implementation of multiple-use/purpose water systems (MUS), ensuring collaboration and incorporation with other Nawiri sub-sectors – domestic water supply, agriculture, livestock, private sector and climate smart for inclusive implementation approaches;
    In collaboration with county and other stakeholders support Nawiri efforts in development and implementation of climate proof water harvesting and water storage infrastructure to increase affordable water harvesting-based to enhance livelihood activities;
    Collaborate with county, national institutions such as Water Resources Authority (WRA), community level institutions such as Water Resources Users Association (WRUAs), Water Users Association, Utilities, Ward Planning Committees in strengthening their capacities and operationalizing their plans towards natural resources management efforts and climate change adaptation;
    Works with county and WRA to establish WRUAs and capacity build WRUAs in development of Sub-Catchment Management Plans (SCAMPs) and ensure operationalization of the same;
    Work collaboratively with Nawiri team, county and other stakeholders in promoting sound environmental protection strategies to foster economic growth and sustainable livelihood activities within Nawiri county areas of operations;
    Implement projects as planned according to developed technical standards, schedules timelines and budget;
    Ensure the water resources management initiatives conform to sound relevant technical design and assessments such as hydrogeological and feasibility surveys before implementation;
    Ensure stakeholders such as county and communities are involved at all the project phases (identification, design, implementation, and monitoring) for enhanced ownership, accountability and oversight;
    Work and collaborate with local water utilities in development of water safety plans;
    In the exceptional case of highly technical projects, organize a competitive bidding process to select the most qualified and cost-effective contractor as well as provide prudent management of the contract certifying quality of the works delivered;
    Oversee acquisition of any materials needed through a competitive and transparent bidding process following the Mercy Corps’ procurement policies and procedures for such purpose and together with the county team ensures that they are safely stored up until their utilization;
    Keep detailed technical records and inventories of all IWRM developed and implemented activities and ensure the same is documented at county and community level;
    Develop and maintain harmonious relationship with partner organizations, line ministries and audience groups. This includes planning activities and coordinating closely with the greater Nawiri consortium partners and other USAID Programs;
    Monitor project implementation, document processes and achievements to ensure best practices are captured and disseminated;
    Regularly visit field activities to assess progress and provide formal and informal feedback;
    Compile and provide comprehensive project activities report;
    Perform any other roles and responsibilities as may be assigned by Management

    COLLABORATION AND PARTNERSHIPS

    Work collaboratively with all key stakeholders to develop and maintain good relationships, explaining USAID Nawiri roles when in liaising with County and communities during all phases of the program implementation;
    Work collaboratively with all USAID Nawiri overlapping and cross-cutting thematic areas such resilience, SSBC, Gender, Youth and Social Dynamics (GYSD), institution and systems strengthening, environmental safeguards, Learning, Research, WASH, monitoring and evaluation among others, to ensure coherence and integrated contribution to USAID Nawiri program purpose areas;
    Ensure coordination and linkages between relevant county sector areas for multi-sectoral approach to natural resources management;

    With funding from USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), Mercy Corps’ Nawiri Program is leading a consortium of Kenyan and international partners on a five year journey to sustainably reduce persistent acute malnutrition in Turkana and Samburu Counties of Kenya. Through a phased approach that emphasizes evidence gap analysis, as well as partnership, learning, and co-creation, the program takes a robust county-centered design with government leadership, active engagement from communities, the private sector, and civil society. Mercy Corps’ consortium brings together the global leadership, research capacity, technical expertise, and implementation experience necessary to partner with local institutions to test, adapt, and scale evidence-based solutions. Together we will sustainably reduce persistent acute malnutrition for vulnerable populations in Turkana and Samburu counties.
    General Position Summary
    The Climate Smart Advisor will provide overall technical leadership and vision for on-farm climate resilient livelihood interventions for improved nutrition in Turkana and Samburu. S/He will provide in-depth technical guidance and mentoring in climate-smart agriculture (small ruminants, poultry, fruits, vegetables, field crops) and natural resources management (namely rangelands and communal areas) approaches for Nawiri activities in Samburu and Turkana. The Climate Smart Advisor will partner closely with program leadership, other technical leads, research and learning leads and field teams to ensure climate-smart approaches are integrated into the design and implementation of program activities. S/He will work closely with relevant county government officials to prioritize activities and investments with a nutrition lens.
    This position requires a technical lead that understands the tightly interconnected relationship between natural resources management, agriculture-based (crops & livestock) livelihoods, seasonality, risk and resilience and the sustained nutrition of women and children in the arid and semi-arid lands in Turkana and Samburu County. S/He will be responsible for the development of high quality implementation strategies and plans for the agricultural sector. S/He will work closely with relevant county officials in the design and implementation of evidence informed activities. The strategies and plans will include tools for participatory planning, implementation and monitoring of the sector strategies and plans. The Climate Smart Advisor will be responsible for providing technical support and strategic direction to Field Directors and field-based livelihoods staff who oversee program implementation.
    Essential Job Functions
    VISION AND STRATEGY

    Support the Deputy Chief of Party (DCoP) by providing vision and strategy to the program’s climate smart resilient interventions and approaches in agriculture (crop & livestock) and natural resources management and how it integrates into the overall technical direction and implementation
    Forge strong, institutional linkages and maintain a productive working relationship with USAID, Government of Kenya, the CRS consortium, PREG Partners, and other relevant partners in agriculture and NRM-related activities.
    Assist in defining and analyzing Nawiri practices and priorities across all partners; identifying opportunities for integration and synergies within other sectors such as nutrition, health, alternative livelihoods, and governance.
    Recognize opportunities for innovative action and create an environment where alternative viewpoints are welcomed; promote and model a culture of learning and adaptive management.
    Ensure that cross-cutting aspects of the program such as nutrition, gender equity, social inclusion, youth, and water systems are included and well integrated into the agriculture resilience strategy and activities.
    Collaborate with different program components including research, implementation, monitoring & evaluation (M&E) and learning to drive overall effectiveness and coherence of program strategy.

    TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP

    Upon start-up, review all program documents and relevant literature including county plans and priorities in relation to climate resilience.
    Lead climate smart agriculture resilience thinking and collaborate with learning and technical leads to finalize a learning agenda and design pilot activities that are coherent to the nutrition resilient framework for dry lands. Design will be based on technical expertise, county priorities, and evidence gaps in knowledge and understanding.
    Participate in the value chains, household-economic analysis and climate risk assessments to prioritize climate-smart livelihoods.
    Coordinate the provision of tailor-made information to producers on crop/livestock suitability, climate risks and cost effectiveness/viability of interventions;
    Identify and analyze the barriers for the uptake of climate smart technologies and formulate recommendations to government and local/indigenous implementation partners.
    Co-design climate smart interventions based on context-specific farming systems and farmer typology and profiling.
    Partner with the Alternative Livelihoods and Inclusive Markets Advisor to develop and train in the use of household economies analysis tools and templates that include season risk and recovery costs and opportunities.
    Support the testing of profitable climate smart innovations with smallholder farmers in collaboration with the research partners;
    Contribute technical expertise that feeds into a dynamic community of practice of Nawiri staff and partners; sharing best practices across all Nawiri areas and work streams, while seeking opportunities to build Nawiri staff’s capabilities.
    Where need is identified, recruit and manage internal Mercy Corps or external technical experts to provide added depth of knowledge in climate smart crop husbandry and livestock technologies and techniques, rangeland management, post-harvest handling and food preservation, or similar issues that may require greater technical understanding.
    Collaborate closely with Nawiri Research and Learning teams to adapt as needed based on incoming information.
    Use learning to develop and scale up implementation strategy, approaches and activities; integrating agriculture resilience into additional technical areas as needed.
    With technical support from gender, youth and social dynamics lead, mainstream gender and youth responsive interventions adapted to context.
    Assist in activity budgeting and target setting.
    Provide direct training and other capacity-building and mentorship support to Nawiri staff, field teams, county stakeholders and partners.
    Work with Partnership for Resilience and Economic Growth (PREG) partners to strengthen linkages with other actors to enhance organizational learning which directly impacts staff performance and productivity.
    In the event of a natural disaster, lead design and budgeting of livelihood protection and recovery emergency response activities.

    PROGRAM MANAGEMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

    Coordinate with the Nawiri team in the Nairobi and counties to build systems that promote participant accountability by ensuring that those most impacted by agriculture-based livelihood issues are represented during program-facilitated community dialogue events, assessments and activities.
    Collaborate with county leadership and lead county-based agriculture, livestock and natural resources staff to ensure that communities are informed about our programs and what we do, are comfortable giving feedback and that feedback is used to improve the quality of our programs.
    Coordinate closely with Institutional Strengthening Lead to support capacity assessments, development of capacity strengthening plans ensuring to prioritize climate smart and nutrition governance, strengthen the technical knowledge, information analysis, prioritization, budgeting and cross-sectoral integration of relevant county government officials and local organizations.
    Develop and implement plans to mentor and coach colleagues to build their capacity to enable them to develop high quality reports and other documents.
    Manage short term technical assistants, consultants and teams supporting integrated climate resilient initiatives.
    Collaborate with NAWIRI learning team to develop and maintain a culture of learning between programs through consistent sharing during reflection points and through analysis and interpretation of M&E data, processes and systems.

    INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING

    Support the integration of geo-spatial data analysis for learning, decision making and monitoring.

    A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a technical role on an international development program related to food security and nutrition.

    3 or more years’ experience working in rural economies in the ASAL counties highly required.

    The Program
    Mercy Corps began working in Kenya in 2008 to address the societal wounds following the 2007 post-election violence. Since that time, Mercy Corps has built a robust and diverse portfolio in Kenya that is working to address structural causes of poverty and injustice and to strengthen systems that enable men, women and children to access opportunities, participate in and contribute to peaceful democratic processes, and thrive in the face of ecological and social change. To do this, we deliver integrated programming to strengthen market and governance systems, address the root causes of conflict, and equip vulnerable populations- in particular youth, women, adolescents and marginalized communities- with the skills, opportunities and resources they need to be healthy, productive and to drive the development of their communities. We work closely with the private sector, civil society and governance structures at local and national levels to facilitate change and ensure that opportunities are inclusive of all Kenyans.
    A five-year USAID-funded Kenya Feed the Future (FtF) Livestock Market Systems (LMS) Activity for northern Kenya. The associate award 2 will support the Strengthening Community Capacities for Resilience and Growth component. This activity will contribute to USAID’s Feed the Future Initiative and specifically will improve households’ income, productive assets and resilience to drought and other shocks. Specific areas of focus include strengthened and sustained rangeland and water management; strengthened drought risk management; strengthened conflict management; improved and sustained health, nutrition, and hygiene practices; improved literacy, numeracy, and life skills; and collaborative action and learning for community empowerment.
    The Position
    The Community Facilitator will be responsible for execution of the Girls Improving Resilience with Livelihoods (GIRL), a 9-month adolescent girl personal agency empowerment safe space model aimed at supporting human capital development for resilient individuals who are well placed for commercial engagement.  S/he will focus on community adolescent girls engagement, including the identification, recruitment and retention of training girls and participants; the establishment of partnerships with key community members (elders, religious leaders, government officials); and ensuring that common strategies and approaches are applied consistently in all communities.

    Contribute to team work plans and successful implementation of Girls Improving Resilience with Livelihood activities.
    In collaboration with GIRL Officer, identify and recruit girls in the community to participate in safe space groups.

    Mobilize the community for events related to GIRL activities.
    Take part in the identification and recruitment of girls in the community to participate in safe space groups.

     Monitoring and reporting

    Monitor the GIRL safe space groups on a daily basis and upload all data collected data in ONA platform on a weekly basis.
    Prepare accurate and timely monitoring and field reports on a weekly basis and other project documentation as required.
    In collaboration with GIRL Officer, report on the attendance, businesses and savings groups’ performances via the GIRL group monitoring tool and to the County Project Coordinator.

    General Position Summary

    PARTNER MANAGEMENT

    Work with the Deputy Team Lead and other key staff to offer partner management and technical support.
