    External Relations Associate

    The ideal candidate should be happy to contribute in a supportive capacity to the team and will have an interest in building diverse institutional knowledge across the organization through varied projects.
    A successful candidate should be a reliable self-starter with meticulous attention to detail and exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including some professional experience preparing content for internal and external audiences. However, the role is open to individuals with diverse experience and a variety of backgrounds.
    The External Relations Associate will work closely with Educate!’s fundraising and communications teams, as well as program teams, to manage internal systems, develop high-quality content, and contribute to the ongoing management of stakeholder relationships.

    While both roles have a dimension of communications and fundraising, the two roles will vary in the amount of time allocated towards each function.
    The new External Relations Associates will join a motivated and passionate international team that is generating resources that will enable Educate! to positively impact young people across East Africa.

    Performance Objectives

    Fundraising

    Within this role, you’ll work with Educate!’s fundraising and development team to ensure the organization meets and exceeds our obligations to current donors by keeping stakeholders informed on Educate!’s progress. Examples of potential projects include:

    Write and project manage grant reports and proposals, working closely with Educate! teams across countries to gather information needed for reporting and donor materials.
    Conduct field follow-ups and diligence requests from donors related to pending or submitted grant proposals.
    Research new funding and prospective leads and support in the documentation and ongoing project management of these relationships.
    Support the fundraising team in streamlining internal systems and processes to ensure grant reporting and compliance are effective and efficient.
    Contribute to Educate!’s fundraising and relationship-building strategy at conferences through prospect research, event preparation, and outreach support.
    Communications

    You’ll work closely with our communications team to shape and execute the organization’s marketing and communications strategy, collaborating closely to produce content, manage and improve systems, and ensure consistent branding and messaging standards.

    Work with Educate!’s communications team to support messaging and branding initiatives, overseeing systems for documentation and disseminating messaging to ensure consistency across the organization.
    Manage a centralized dashboard for routine communications tasks with efficient coordination and execution.
    Ensure Educate!’s internal and external communication channels are up to date.
    Liaise with Educate!’s Communications Specialist to create compelling content, including impact stories, articles, blogs, social media posts, print publications, and email newsletters.
    Draft proposals for speaking engagements and content for external sources to drive Educate!’s key thought leadership messages.
    General Support

    Educate! is growing quickly and we don’t always know everything the coming years will bring. We are looking for a team player who is happy to wear a variety of hats on Educate!’s External Relations Team, and tag in where there is a need. Some of the things we envision this role supporting include:

    Draft a wide variety of internal and external communications to support Educate!’s fundraising and communications efforts.
    Conduct donor research and/or sector research to inform Educate!’s development strategy.
    Support Educate!’s executive team’s attendance at a variety of special events.
    Troubleshoot and project manage tasks aimed at improving efficiency and coordination on Educate!’s wider External Relations Team, such as building or refining existing fundraising, communications, or compliance processes.
    Build internal expertise on specific aspects of Educate!’s work.

    Qualifications
    This position is well-suited for those with 2-3 years of work experience. The ideal candidate is/has:

    HR Logistics support (20%)

    Assist and coordinate both external and internal events for the teams.
    Handle office errands, including visits to institutions like the NSSF offices to address HR-related matters.
    Collaborate with operations to oversee the procurement of HR-related items.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in human resources or a related subject.
    At least 4 years of professional experience, with at least 2 years of directly working in the HR Department or related field.

    In the process of ensuring that Educate!’s product offering is cognizant of an ever-changing climate, we are committed to developing a comprehensive climate change strategy. Educate! is seeking the services of a consultant to support this process. This Terms of Reference (TOR) sets out the first formal step in the process, which is mainly an analysis of:

    Where are we now?: a) An assessment of Educate!’s current approach to climate change in relation to its i. Strategic plan ii. 3 solution lines (School Solution, Education Systems Solution, and Out-of-School Youth Solution) iii. Theory of change (how youth climate action/resilience etc. fits into our theory of change)

    Output: A SWOT analysis of where E! is regarding climate change opportunities, threats, weaknesses, and strengths. What is the broader research link between education and climate and the tangible/direct claims that can be made related to E!’s climate impact within our messaging? Analysis of how Climate action fits into our Theory Of Change and articulate pathways for youth to use the key skills developed through the Educate!     Where is the market?:
    A global and regional benchmark analysis of up to 10 (to be agreed upon) youth-/education-focused institutions and their approach to climate change.

    Output i: A matrix table that answers the following questions:

    Which 10 youth-/education-implementing organizations are recognized as leaders in this space, and what are their approaches to climate change programming?
    Who are their funders?
    What are their impact numbers, strategy, and incentives to climate action or youth programming?

    Output ii: 2-3 Case studies of innovative organizations and their approach to integrating climate change education into their programming.

    An analysis of global, regional and national climate change education-related policies, including national and/or regional climate change strategies, plans and priorities (to be agreed upon).

    What can we do next?:
    A proposed climate change action plan/strategy with 5-10 concrete/practical steps to further integrate climate change as a fundamental pillar for the organization. What are our low-hanging fruits? What would it take for us to have a product/boot camp that is climate change focused?

    Background 

    We are looking for an Assessment Consultant with expertise in Project-Based Assessment and learning assessment data use. The Consultant will support our Education System Solutions (ESS) work in Rwanda. We have already partnered with governments in Rwanda and Kenya to support skills-based curriculum reforms through our education system solutions, and results from a rigorous impact evaluation have shown that our cost-effective solutions create a real impact on youth through national education systems. The Consultant will work closely with the Group Strategist Scale, Sustainability, government advocacy experts, and our programs teams in Rwanda. The work will be geared towards developing approaches to scaling project-based assessment. This will include strategies for learning assessment data-use to inform decision-making on teaching, learning, and assessment interventions, as well as teacher professional development needs. These will support long-term changes to education systems and meaningful, sustainable curriculum and assessment reforms.

    Scope of Work

    We are looking for an experienced Consultant who will lead the work and deliver on the following: 

    Desk research on scaling of project-based assessments by looking at assessment systems that promote project based learning at the secondary school level
    Review pilot study findings on project-based assessment and offer insights, lead a process to draw out key insights and recommendations on approaches to scaling project-based assessment
    Desk research on learning assessment data-use for decision-making on teaching, learning, assessment, and education sector policy priorities.
    Develop a process that supports the team to work through and answer these questions with government partners:

    What decisions and actions could data generated through an assessment management information system inform? 
    How can we build the capacity of system actors to identify the questions they can answer with this data, build the infrastructure for the system to analyze said data, and incentivize system actors at different levels to use that data to inform decisions?

    Qualifications and Experience

    A postgraduate degree in social sciences or development studies in international education
    Prior experience with and knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and sampling strategies
    Proven experience in developing, assessing, and evaluating project-based assessment projects in education programs (preferably in schools within Eastern Africa/ sub-Saharan Africa)
    Proven track record of  working on learning assessment data analysis/assessment tools with governments within Eastern Africa

    Minimum of 7 years of finance and accounting experience, including finance, accounting, audit, and analysis (including gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to management and external stakeholders).
    Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience leading finance teams and cross-function collaborations.
    Minimum 3 years of grant project management experience
    Proven experience handling $1+ Million annual budgets
    Solid experience in coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting.
    Proficiency with Quickbooks Online and excellent Excel skills.

    Background 

    We are looking for an Assessment Consultant with expertise in Project-Based Assessment and learning assessment data use. The Consultant will support our Education System Solutions (ESS) work in Rwanda. We have already partnered with governments in Rwanda and Kenya to support skills-based curriculum reforms through our education system solutions, and results from a rigorous impact evaluation have shown that our cost-effective solutions create a real impact on youth through national education systems. The Consultant will work closely with the Group Strategist Scale, Sustainability, government advocacy experts, and our programs teams in Rwanda. The work will be geared towards developing approaches to scaling project-based assessment. This will include strategies for learning assessment data-use to inform decision-making on teaching, learning, and assessment interventions, as well as teacher professional development needs. These will support long-term changes to education systems and meaningful, sustainable curriculum and assessment reforms.

    Scope of Work

    We are looking for an experienced Consultant who will lead the work and deliver on the following: 

    Desk research on scaling of project-based assessments by looking at assessment systems that promote project based learning at the secondary school level
    Review pilot study findings on project-based assessment and offer insights, lead a process to draw out key insights and recommendations on approaches to scaling project-based assessment
    Desk research on learning assessment data-use for decision-making on teaching, learning, assessment, and education sector policy priorities.
    Develop a process that supports the team to work through and answer these questions with government partners:

    What decisions and actions could data generated through an assessment management information system inform? 
    How can we build the capacity of system actors to identify the questions they can answer with this data, build the infrastructure for the system to analyze said data, and incentivize system actors at different levels to use that data to inform decisions?

    Qualifications and Experience

    A postgraduate degree in social sciences or development studies in international education
    Prior experience with and knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and sampling strategies
    Proven experience in developing, assessing, and evaluating project-based assessment projects in education programs (preferably in schools within Eastern Africa/ sub-Saharan Africa)
    Proven track record of  working on learning assessment data analysis/assessment tools with governments within Eastern Africa 
    East African candidates are preferred but not essential

    Performance Objectives 
    Create compelling content, including impact stories, articles, blogs, social media posts and graphics, to support Educate!’s thought leadership and fundraising strategy.

    Draft, edit and project manage collation of real-life case studies and success stories that provide evidence of Educate!’s impact.
    Suggest ideas for impact stories, social media posts, articles and blogs.
    Run our LinkedIn channel, including posting and analytics.

    Build systems and processes for collating stories from the field.

    Work closely with in-country teams to develop and maintain effective communication plans for gathering the information needed for content creation.
    Develop relationships with Educate! program officers, youth leaders and mentors, as well as external stakeholders for the purpose of story gathering.
    Manage a database of impact stories and build a local network of photographers and videographers.

    Become the link between program and country teams in East Africa and the global communications and external relations function.

    Work with the Director of Marketing & Communications to create content/thought leadership material to advance our org-wide priorities. 
    Become an internal “expert” on specific products, solutions, or aspects of Educate!’s work that we can promote externally.
    Coach colleagues in East Africa on best practice in communications and troubleshoot to develop solutions as they arise on projects and systems.

    Qualifications 
    This position is well-suited for those with 8-10 years of communications experience. The ideal candidate will have: 

    Extremely strong written communication skills; comfort generating copy is a must.
    Experience in digital communications is a big advantage, as is any experience in media creation.
    An understanding of how to adapt and tailor communications, both written and verbal, for a variety of different audiences and purposes.
    The ability to review, summarize and present a high volume of information quickly and accurately with advanced structuring, writing and editing skills.
    Strong verbal communication skills, project management, and social judgment for cultivating relationships with colleagues in program and country teams, external stakeholders and young people.
    Passion and interest in youth development.
    Excellent organization and time management skills; experience working with a remote team to successfully manage multiple projects with competing timelines. 
    High degree of proficiency working in a fast-paced, flexible, goal-oriented environment, with the highest level of personal and professional integrity. 
    A self-starter, able to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and competing projects, take initiative, and work independently to a deadline.
    Willing to travel around East Africa up to once every two months to report on Educate!’s programs.
