Major Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the Protocol Assistant will include the following:• Welcome and see-off Elected Officials and guests at the Airport.• Obtain Visas for staff members from all Embassies;• Process duty-free declarations and follow up all correspondence addressed to Customs Department, e.g. clearance of medicines, etc.• Assist staff members in obtaining Customs Clearance upon separation from the organization. Assist staff and their family members at the Airport on initial recruitment• Process requests for Special I.D. Cards (resident permits) and Visas from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Immigration Authorities;• Welcome and assist delegates at the Airport on their arrival and departure during AU-IBAR Meetings;• Liaise with Transport Officers regarding transportation for VIPs, guests and delegates from/to the Airport and hotels;• Welcome and usher guests during official functions and meetings/conferences;• Perform and follow up other duties of ceremonial nature, i.e. official cocktails, receptions, luncheons. Distribute invitation cards for official functions of the Mission;• Ensure that all name plates of AU Member States and other Organizations are sufficiently available and kept in order;• Follow up the printing of name plates, invitation cards, conference badges and registration forms frequently used by the office;• Process and follow up all correspondence to the Kenya Transport Authority;• Perform any other duties which may be assigned by his/her Supervisors.
Requirements
Qualification and Work Experience required:
Candidates must have minimum of Diploma in Management or Administration from a recognized educational institution.
Higher relevant academic qualifications in Public or International Relations/Diplomacy will be an added advantage.
A minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience, in clerical or protocol/public relations duties, preferably in an international organization.
Other relevant skills:
Good knowledge and practical use of Computer;

Responsibilities for the Animal Health Expert
Under the direct supervision of the Live2Africa Project Officer and the overall supervision of the Chief AnimalHealth Officer, the Animal Health Expert will be responsible for the overall operations relating to Animal Health Systems and Services Delivery:
Carry out an assessment of the status of implementation of recommendations of Performance ofm veterinary services missions, gap analysis missions, veterinary legislation missions and support national veterinary services develop and implement strategic plans
Support member states develop and utilise TADs and zoonoses preparedness and response capacities ;
Assess AU-IBAR achievements in promoting OH and develop and pilot innovative approaches to OH sustained capacity utilisation and intersectoral collaboration
Develop, pilot and broaden models of coordination mechanism for animal health services delivery and control of TADs and zoonosis.
Develop, pilot and broaden models of public private partnerships in the animal health system.
Support implementation of policies and compliance with legislation including roadmaps for regional harmonisation.
Backstop the ARIS manager in the analysis of member states animal health reports and the drafting of the Pan African Animal Resources Yearbook
Contribute to the monitoring and analysis the state of animal health in Africa and the generation of annual policy briefs

Requirements for the Animal Health Expert Job
Master’s Degree in Veterinary epidemiology with a 7 years’ experience as Animal Health Expert in none-state or government institutions or international organizations dealing with animal health and a minimum of 3 years in senior management position. A PhD in Veterinary epidemiology will be an added advantage.
A University Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary science and a certification in epidemiology in lieu of the
Master’s Degree in Veterinary epidemiology is accepted with a 10 years’ experience as Animal Health Expert in non-state or government institutions or international organizations dealing with animal health and a minimum of 5 years in senior management position may be accepted.

Investment and Marketing Expert
Job Description
Recently, AU-IBAR led a cross section of stakeholders in the livestock sector on the African continent to formulate the Livestock Development Strategy for Africa (LiDeSA), a 20 year framework for the collective and coordinated development of the livestock on the continent. The strategy was approved by the AU Heads of States and Governments of the AU in January 2015. To initiate the implementation of the LiDeSA, the European Union has made available funds to assist AU-IBAR implement the Sustainable Development of Livestock for Livelihoods in Africa (Live2Africa) project, which will initiate the implementation of the LiDeSA.
AU-IBAR intends to apply part of the funds for employing experts in various disciplines to spearhead the implementation of the Live2Africa. In this regard, AU-IBAR seeks the services of an Investment and Marketing Expert, who will be responsible for leading the formulation and implementation of projects to increase investment in livestock value chains, enhance access to inputs, services and markets and increase value addition to livestock commodities.

Job Purpose
Under the management supervision of the project officer and the overall supervision of the project coordinator, the Investment and Marketing Expert will be responsible for the overall operations relating to increased investments in livestock value chains, enhancing access to inputs, services and markets and value addition to livestock commodities.
Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesLiaise with the Senior Policy Officer, Economics, Trade and Marketing on technical matters relating to AU-IBAR initiatives relating to investments and trade and marketing of livestock and livestock products.
Lead the formulation of project proposals to mobilize resources in areas related to catalyzing public and private sector investments in the livestock sector and enhancing the trade and marketing of livestock commodities within Africa and with other regions of the world.
Develop a system for the efficient monitoring of public and private sector investments in the livestock sector by African Union Member States and RECs
Refine and implement a methodological framework to enable AU-IBAR to collect, consolidate and analyse data at continental level for assessing the contribution of the livestock sector to the National and agricultural GDPs in AU Member States within the framework of the Monitoring of investments under CAADP.
To identify needs and formulate appropriate training programmes to build capacity of staff from AU Member States and RECs to facilitate the application of methodologies for monitoring investments and performance in the livestock sector at the national and regional levels.

Assist the Senior Policy Officer, Economics, trade and Marketing to conduct studies on issues of interest and trends in African livestock development with a specific aim of formulating evidence based recommendations for better addressing policies and strategies aimed at improving the livestock sub-sector in Africa, as well as promoting intra-regional livestock trade.
Prepare policy papers and technical reports on investments in animal livestock, trade and marketing in livestock animal in Africa;

Introduction/ Background
Africa is increasingly becoming a key player in acquiring, generating and applying knowledge to development challenges. Yet more needs to be done to make innovation play its part in the quest for transformation and diversification of the African economies. Sustained support to help member States put in place a favorable innovation environment as well as appropriate technologies to address their pressing needs is required, such as green economy, industrialization, job and wealth creation.
As part of providing leadership and coordination in the sustainable development of the continent’s Animal Resources, African Union InterAfrican Bureau of Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) is implementing a 5-year project on “Sustainable Development of Livestock for Livelihoods in Africa – Live2Africa”, The project pioneers a coherent continental programme approach to build systemic capacity in seven livestock components, that include: Investment in Value Chains, Animal Health; Animal Production, Productivity and Ecosystem Management; Resilience Building; Technology adoption in the Value Chains to inputs, services and markets; and strengthening institutional capacities.
One of the key project’s focus areas is to enhance innovation, generation and utilization of technologies, capacities and entrepreneurship skills of livestock value chain actors. In light of this AU-IBAR will be organizing a consultative workshop that aims to provide a platform to take stock of all existing technologies and highlight their aptness to the livestock value chains in Africa with key focus on documenting their advantages and disadvantages within the African context.
Objectives of the meeting
The overall objective of the workshop is to take stock of existing technologies and highlight pros and cons with special focus on their aptness to the livestock sector in Africa.
More specifically the meeting will:Take inventory of existing technologies and innovations used in the livestock value chain across Africa.
Undertake a SWOT analysis on the identified technologies applicability in enhancing production, productivity and profitability of priority value chains as well as environmentally and climate friendliness.
Recommended selected technologies for use within the African continent based on above criterion

Objectives of the consultancy
The facilitator will be responsible for the smooth running of the meeting including but not restricted to:Design and plan the process, and select the tools that best help the progress towards that desired outcome. This will include development of tools.
Develop a comprehensive online survey tool to take stock and SWOT analysis of technologies across the livestock value chains.
Develop scoring criterion to assess technologies suitability and profitability across the livestock value chains.Lend subject matter to the specific workshop sessions through development of Terms of reference for each working session.

Provide technical back-stopping and guidance to relevant personnel in the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and AU Member States in the economic analyses of regional trends in the production, processing, consumption and trade of animals and animal products.
Collate, analyse and synthesize -economic, trade and marketing data and information to support the development of evidence based policies to promote growth of the animal resources sector and its contribution to economic development.
Provide support for the implementation of the policy and capacity development initiatives at AU-IBAR.
Represent AU-IBAR in regional and continental livestock socio-economic networks and related fora.
Contribute to the preparation and execution of AU-IBAR’s annual, quarterly and monthly work programmes and prepare progress reports on the socio-economic components in accordance with reporting guidelines provided by the African Union Commission and the Director AU-IBAR.
Organise and supervise the implementation of socio-economic activities in line with AU-IBAR’s annual work program.
Provide support in other areas of AU-BAR’s work and undertake any other duties as maybe assigned by the Director of AU-IBAR.Requirements
A Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics preferably in Livestock economics with 7 years of work experience managing a livestock economics , trade and marketing portfolio.

Job Description Summary

Work closely with the documentalist towards the modernization of the library through digitization and development of an online catalogue with a view to establishing an e-library.

Promote collaborative tools that facilitate sharing of ideas, information and knowledge such as ARIS, outlook/exchange, SharePoint etc.Facilitate the sharing of experiences and knowledge as well as learning through the nurturing and management of Discussion Groups, Fora, Communities of Practice and learning activities using ARIS and other platforms.
Help to capture and document new information and knowledge on animal resources in Africa such as the documenting of lessons learnt best practices and success stories.
