    Finance Officer

    Roles for the Finance Officer Job
    Provide support to the Hub Head of Finance and Administration (HFA-CAH) to streamline financial policies and procedures in all IITA Central Africa Hub (CAH) Stations.
    Working with HFA-CAH and scientists, provide monthly updates and monitor budgets for all projects implemented under the CA Hub Director’s supervision.
    Support station administrators in IITA CAH to monitor administrative and cost recovery cost centres.
    Participate in review of donor financial reports for CAH projects as requested.
    Conduct regular checks and ensure accounts staff in all IITA CAH Stations comply with financial guidelines and procedures of the Institute.
    Work with the HFA-CAH to identify training needs, and organize in-house training, of accounting personnel and other staff (including Scientists and Administration) on accounting controls and procedures, budget monitoring, etc.
    Participate in coordination of audit activities and other assurance and monitoring providers across all CAH
    Hub Stations and follow up on implementation of audit recommendations in close consultation with HFA-CAH.
    Perform the role of second reviewer of FINIX transactions for some of the IITA CAH Stations.
    Review monthly reconciliation of bank accounts in all IITA CAH Stations and flag any inconsistencies.
    Support the HFA-CAH to provide technical support and back stopping to all accounting staff in the IITA CAH stations.
    The candidate shall have the following competencies, skills and experience:
    Finance Officer Job Requirements
    Masters’ degree in a finance/accounting related field.
    Full certification in professional accounting qualification – CPA or ACCA.
    At least five year’s progressive INGO experience in accounting and financial management position.
    Understanding of, and demonstrated experience with, financial accounting principles, processes, systems and internal controls not-for-profit organizations.
    Experience in auditing and systems review.
    Staff management experience and abilities that are conducive to a learning environment.
    High level of proficiency working with MS Office (Excel advanced level), Word and accounting packages, ERPs
    Proficiency with Excel as a tool for data input, reporting, review, and analysis.
    Working knowledge of French is an added advantage
    Willingness to travel regularly to stations within the IITA Central Africa Hub
    Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good judgment and a high level of integrity and respect for confidentiality
    Terms of employment

    Postdoctoral Scientist Job Responsibilities
    Coordinate CIAT’s global activities of the WLE-RDL cluster on Soil Restoration and Soil Carbon.
    Provide administrative leadership of CIAT’s new research project on Scaling up soil carbon enhancement interventions for food security and climate across complex landscapes in Kenya and Ethiopia.
    Contribute to a methodological guide on measuring soil carbon for carbon trading,
    Familiarize with and apply major biophysical models for simulating soil organic carbon-dynamics, such as DayCent, CropSyst and RothC.
    Represent (whenever necessary) the CIAT SoiLS team at international meetings and conferences.
    Communicate project progress, outputs and outcomes on project websites (CIAT and WLE), blogs and other suitable means, and through reports to donors.
    Author or coauthor publications, such as journal articles, posters, brochures, presentations on soil restoration and soil carbon.
    Contribute to the development of new proposals and initiatives of the SoiLS research area.
    Qualifications for the Postdoctoral Scientist Job
    PhD degree in agronomy, soil science or related field.
    Very good scientific knowledge on tropical soil, soil organic carbon, and soil biology.
    Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse groups.
    Fluency in English, spoken and written; Swahili and Amharic language skills are an advantage.
    Capable of managing professional relationships, and working in a complex, intercultural and highly dynamic working environment.

    Main Responsibilities:
    Advice projects on the choice and use of mobile technology.
    Converting questionnaires into xlsforms and further into xml for upload in the android devices.
    Designing standard workflows for mobile collected data.
    Reviewing data management plans of proposals (or existing projects).
    Training of staff about ODK (or similar platform) and designing questionnaires.
    Integrating new developments/software modules into the workflows.
    Frequently updating on new developments in the market.
    Managing the ODK server (or similar platform).
    Preparing devices with software (if not done by ICT).
    Participating in data management planning workshops of projects.
    Competencies, Skills and Experience:
    Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.

    for collecting survey data through mobile applications.

    Research Associate – Seed Systems (S34D Project)

    Project Information: The goal of Supporting Seed Systems for Development (S34D) Project is to enhance farmers’ access to a full range of seed choices and options to maximize their responsive decision making and planning for production.
    The Project seeks to improve functioning of national seed sector in Feed the Future countries and in countries with resilience and emergency seed security programs. To deliver on this strategy, the S34D team seeks an agricultural/seed system specialist to backstop the work of the Humanitarian work of the project.
    Position Summary: The Research Associate — Seed Systems (S34D Project) will work closely with the Emergency and Resilience Seeds Systems Advisor and an array of consortium partners (under S340) to: effect diagnostic analyses of seed and related input supply systems within target geographies (including of informal and integrated systems), build the capacity of project staff in working on seed and input supply systems, support project activities and monitor project performance.
    S/he will explore innovative ways to enable farmers to access high quality inputs and work with partners in the public and private sector to ensure that humanitarian activities have optimum effectiveness and that farmers in stress areas, even at the Last Mile, have access to new varieties, high quality seed, and the information needed to make informed choices about crop and variety-specific decisions.

    Position Summary:
    The Research Assistant-Social Economist has the responsibility to support field activities, data management, data analysis and scientific writing. He/she will work in close collaboration with experts in various projects to deliver on the required duties.
    Main duties and responsibilities include:

    Support development of survey tools for qualitative and quantitative data collection
    Designing study tools in Survey CTO or ODK for data collection
    Supervising data collection
    Data management and analysis using STATA software
    Contribute in writing project reports, discussion papers, scientific manuscripts, policy briefs, blogs and other communication materials related to the collected data sets

    The candidate shall have the following competencies, skills and experience:

    Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Sciences, or any other relevant field, with a focus and/or proven interest in rural development and food security topics.
    At least three (3) years of relevant work experience in a closely related field gain in an international organization with key strength in data collection and management
    Experience in designing survey tools in ICT based software such as Survey CTO or ODK
    Experience in writing scientific articles will be an added advantage
    Excellent in STATA analytical software
    Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Power Point and Excel.
    Very good command of English, Kiswahili is an added advantage
    Interest in and proven editing and proofreading skills.

    Administrative Assistant

    CIAT is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Administrative Assistant who will have the responsibility of providing a wide variety of administrative support services, ranging from complex to routine, all of which contribute to the efficient and professional operation of the Finance and Administration Unit.
    Duties 

    Coordinate visits of finance and administration (F&A) staff from HQ and the country offices by handling logistics and relevant appointments.
    Review documents for the F&A coordinator’s approval/signature.
    Assist in the quarterly monitoring and consolidation of workplans and achievements of regional F&A teams.
    Coordinate and ensure efficient delivery of services/supplies to the F&A Unit.
    Schedule and organize F&A staff meetings in collaboration with the coordinator, take minutes and assist in following up actions points.
    Assisting with itinerary planning, flight and accommodation reservations for F&A staff and forums.
    Support logistics processes by raising purchase requisitions through the organizational ERP
    Manage the CIAT main front office
    Maintaining and synthesizing a record of all CIAT agreements in the region keeping the F&A coordinator aware of due dates for renewal.

    Job Qualifications

    Degree in Business Administration, Management or other relevant subject with proven office management skills
    Two years’ relevant work experience in a closely related field gained in an international organization.
