    The Position

This is a five (5) year CDC project that will be conducted in three (3) hospitals: namely Kenyatta National Hospital, The Nairobi Hospital and The National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital.

    Location

    This is a full time position based at the University of Nairobi, Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics, its holder reports to the Project Principal Investigator.

    Duties and Resposnbilites

     

    Support the implementation of IPC recommendations and AMR stewardship action plans in the project health facilities to assist with antibiotic selection for common clinical conditions
    Participate in the development of SOPs, clinician handbooks, mentorship framework and guideline documents
    Assist in the development of campaign material on the risk of AMR as per the project’s objectives
    Support the coordination of AMR surveillance activities
    Support data collection on antimicrobial consumption and use in the project sites
    Support the delivery of trainings aimed at building laboratories capacities to undertake AMR surveillance
    Assist the Prncipal Investigator and the project’s Technical Experts to prepare technical progress reports on project implementation and achievements
    Support the implementation of other AMR related projects

    The Project

    The University of Nairobi, in collaboration with Aarhus University’s (AU) Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (AU-QGG), the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), and Makerere University, has received funding from the DANIDA Fellowship Centre (DFC) for a project on sustainable and efficient insect production for livestock feed through selective breeding (FLYgene). The project aims to improve the quantity and quality of Black Soldier Fly products through selective breeding in Kenya and Uganda. It will generate new knowledge in Black Soldier Fly (BSF) genetics, genomics, and phenomics for designing sustainable breeding programs in Kenya and Uganda. The project will bring together a multi-disciplinary team of entomologists, geneticists, bioinformaticians, electronic and computer engineers, and nutritionists to investigate innovative BSF phenotyping and family identification systems before establishing a breeding program. The project results are expected to lead to job creation opportunities and climate-friendly bio-waste management in a circular bioeconomy and cover several UN Sustainable Development Goals. To successfully implement the assignment, the Project seeks to competitively fill the above position.

    The position

    Reporting to the Project Investigator (PI) at the University of Nairobi, the position entails managing BSF founder populations and conducting experiments at the breeding facility.

    Location

    This is a full-time position based in Nairobi. The Research Assistant will be based at the FLYgene facilities at Upper Kabete Campus, University of Nairobi. Some travel to key clients may also be required.

    Job specifications

    A Diploma in Animal Science, Animal Health, or an equivalent qualification
    Experience working with insects or managing a facility for insects is essential. Prior BSF training from ICIPE would be an added advantage.

    The Position

    Reporting to the e-Learning Coordinator and the LMS Manager, the e-Learning Content & Support Officers shall provide technical assistance to end users of the learning managing system and content support to ensure the online teaching and learning processes for the faculty run effectively and optimally. The position, as a part of the LMS Help Desk team, will address, troubleshoot, and document Level 1 through Level 3 LMS support while providing top-notch customer service, and expert technical assistance. Additional responsibilities include conversion and/or updating of online content to suit the requirements of the subject matter experts and testing online content before it is launched for learner uptake

    Duties and Responsibilities

    First point of contact for user/client inquiries through the ticketing system, emails, and phone calls.
    Upload, publish, and test e-Learning content to ensure proper functionality
    Add or edit entities in the system (users, activities and resources, plugin configurations, calendar management, etc.).
    Set-up and configure new courses as per the relevant requirements
    Perform monitoring of course elements and recommend engagement strategies for courses.
    Create online course content using authoring tools as per instructions given
    Support online course content development and updating/improving of course content on the LMS.

    The NIHR Global Health unit on the prevention and management of stillbirths and Neonatal Deaths in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, led from the Centre for Childbirth, Women’s and New-born Health at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine United Kingdom (UK), is an established equitable multidisciplinary partnership between Africa, Asia and UK-based researchers. As an International Centre of Research excellence, our goal is to end preventable stillbirths and new-born deaths, ensure adequate support for parents and families whose baby dies and reduce associated stigma. Using a whole systems approach, we work across high burden settings in India, Kenya, Malawi, Pakistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
    We aim to develop, test and implement sustainable and cost-effective solutions to strengthen maternity and new-born care, reducing mortality and morbidity through high-quality, respectful and compassionate maternity and new-born care.

    Purpose of the Position

    The Research Assistant will offer postnatal support for parents, families and communities after stillbirth or neonatal death. This will include a range of activities such as gaining ethical approvals, recruitment and data collection, contributing to data analysis, data management, providing progress reports and liaising with stakeholders, Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI) groups and the wider team.

    The Position

The project coordinator will also organize visits to University of Nairobi for program partners and assist in travel arrangements for OSU and UoN faculty and Advisory Committee members. The coordinator will assist in data collection, collation, evaluation and tracking achievement of program aims and preparing reports for all stakeholders. This position is located at the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi, Nairobi, Kenya.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Provide overall project administration for the grant through planning, organization, coordination, and timeline management.
    Plan, schedule and attend meetings with administrative team members and PIs to support implementation and management of the project.
    Support overall grant compliance and serve as the UoN team’s lead on all grant requirements and allowable costs for assigned grant.
    Collaborate with OSU partners to manage the grant using electronic systems (Workday, Microsoft One Drive, Microsoft Excel, etc.)
    Plan, book, and track grant related travel for the assigned grant (domestic and
    international).
    Provide project management support for project level monitoring and evaluation; ensure appropriate, timely and high-quality project technical and financial reports are compiled and submitted; prepare quarterly progress and annual project reports in line with the set work plans
    Maintain an organized online system of grant related documents through OneDrive and Teams.
    Contribute to follow-on applications and annual funding renewal applications as applicable.
    Assist learners in program related issues and actively engage in seminars, webinars and workshops
    Work closely with program faculty to ensure program related activities are conducted as per the required standards
    Help promote, manage and coordinate MOHERE program activities and events when deemed necessary including scheduling program and project meetings as needed
    Work collaboratively with other groups involved in MOHERE
    Develop program work plans and assist with coordination of workshops, training events, website updates and MOHERE fellows monthly meetings
    Any other related duties as may be given by the Principal Investigator
    Review and approve monthly project invoices to ensure compliance with sponsor requirements.
    Coordinate with OSU partners to process invoices in a timely manner.
    Collaborate with team members to resolve invoice-related inquires and ensure adequate documentation for grant compliance.
    Manage post-award grant budget and work plan development for UoN-related costs and act as key contact providing project management support during sub-awardee budget and workplan development.
    Manage budget and workplan modifications for internal documentation and sponsor approval in coordination with project PIs, OSU partners, and sub-awardees.

    Communications:

    Maintain routine communication with project Principal Investigator(s), co-investigators, subawardee team members, OSU partners, and sponsor counterparts on various grant management, implementation, and reporting priorities.

    Job specifications

    Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Business Management/Administration,
    Finance and Accounting, Project Management and Office Management with at least three (3) years’ experience providing program implementation administrative support
    At least two (2) Experience in managing donor funded grants,
    Familiarity with health research and online educational methods, and
    Excellent computer skills.
    Experience in facilitating partnerships with stakeholders; experience with sub-award management.
