    RefugePoint is recruiting an experienced Deputy Country Director (D-CD). As the D-CD you will be responsible for ensuring that RefugePoint’s (RP) programs in Kenya contribute to RPs vision of an inclusive world where refugees are supported to rebuild their lives, reach their full potential, and contribute to their communities.
    Along with the Country Director (CD) – Kenya, the D-CD plays a major role in furthering the mission of the organization and helping to set and reach its operational goals. This position oversees all of RefugePoint’s programming in Kenya, including the Urban Refugee Protection Program (URPP), programs related to Third Country Solutions (e.g. Resettlement, Labor Mobility, Family Reunification), and engagement with refugee-led organizations (RLOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs), and works closely with senior management in determining the organization’s strategic direction, priorities and approaches. In addition, the D-CD oversees training and communications activities in the Nairobi office.
    Key responsibilities
    Overall Program Management and Leadership

    Assume primary responsibility for overseeing all program activities and supervising associated staff in the Kenya office, including:

    The Urban Refugee Protection Program (URPP), in conjunction with the Urban Program Coordinator
    Third country solutions (3CS) in conjunction with the Director, 3CS
    Deployment program in conjunction with the Director, Deployment Program
    Training & Field building work to support partner organizations including CBOs and RLOs in conjunction with the Chief Program Officer

    In addition to program-related responsibilities, the D-CD supervises staff and provides oversight for communications-related activities in the Nairobi office.
    Liaises closely with the Chief Program Officer and Country Director to provide programmatic oversight and guidance by supervising and supporting program functions to ensure objectives are met and are within the required time frames and budgets.
    Maintain close coordination and communication with all of the organization’s Nairobi program staff, with particular attention to achieving outcomes, professional development, and staff morale.
    Coordinate closely with the organization’s Nairobi operations staff to ensure programs are properly resourced and supported to achieve outcomes.
    Provide technical support and oversight on field building activities.

    Communications

    Review quarterly and annual report content related to the URPP for accuracy and content
    Provide guidance and support to the communications team in developing and implementing plans for internal and external communications efforts.

    Training

    In conjunction with the Chief Programs Officer, supervise the Training Manager.
    Work with the Training Manager to ensure the Nairobi office has the resources necessary to promote and maintain a centre of learning for refugee self-reliance programming.
    Work with the Training Manager to support the field-building efforts aimed at strengthening the capacity of RLOs and CBOs.

    Strategic Leadership

    Serve as a member of the Senior Management Team in Kenya & liaise with the organizations Executive Management Team when required
    Partner with the Country Director, the Chief Program Officer, and relevant management to shape RefugePoint’s (RP) Kenya strategy and develop operational work plans in line with RPs’ agency-wide strategy, mission and values.
    Assist in providing strategic leadership for the organization and in setting both long and short-range programmatic goals.
    Ensure team activities are aligned to achieve the strategic objectives of Kenya-based program teams.

    Representation

    Represent RefugePoint Kenya in the Refugee Self-Reliance Initiative community of practice
    Ensure Nairobi programs are represented at relevant working group meetings in Kenya.
    In the absence of the Country Director, serve as the secondary representative and designee for the Kenya-based programs with external partners, vendors, legal counsel, local authorities, financial institutions, and any other partners as necessary.

  • Economic Mobility Assistant

    Economic Mobility Assistant

    The main purpose of the position is to provide support to the Resettlement Unit, specifically working on processing refugee applicants for economic mobility, mainly to Canada. The Economic Mobility program aims to identify and refer successful refugee applicants for job opportunities in Canada and beyond. The program also aims to continue building on the outcomes and learnings of a pilot project –the Economic Mobility Pathways Project by documenting opportunities and barriers to labour migration in the refugee context.    
    Core Responsibilities of this Position:
    Screening

    Receive applications from refugee applicants and conduct different types and levels of screening (which may include but not limited to paper review, phone screening, intakes and informal language assessment etc.) to ensure the applicants meet the economic mobility program criteria, employer needs, provincial and federal requirements;
    Lead and support candidates in producing high-quality CVs that meet program standards;
    Develop understanding and knowledge around participating countries’ economic mobility programs including their skills classification and apply the same during screening;
    Coordinate language training and formal language testing with accredited testing centres;
    Liaise and correspond with UNHCR offices, namely, Branch Office Kenya, Sub Office Dadaab and Sub Office Kakuma around the screening process and requirements;

    Data Entry

    Conduct data entry for all applications received by entering all pertinent data points required;
    Enter and update the economic mobility database consistently, organize information to fit the format required by the database and ensure data is backed up;
    Create accurate spreadsheets that capture pertinent information necessary for implementing the program and generate statistics when required;

    Employment Applications/Job Interviews

    Provide support to applicants in drafting, preparing and completing job applications including writing curriculum vitae, resumes and other required documentation;
    In coordination with the supervisor, conduct job interview preparation for the applicants, which includes employer briefing, providing guidance on and sharing relevant reading materials, scheduling and or conducting mock interviews and giving feedback;
    Facilitate employer interviews and, when necessary, conduct missions to camps.

    Immigration Applications

    Facilitate the completion of provincial and federal immigration documents by demonstrating a firm grasp of the immigration requirements of the participating countries and guiding applicants through the process, including the sourcing of required documents.
    Provide all other support to ensure the successful submission of immigration applications and troubleshooting where necessary. 

    Missions

    When required, undertake missions to UNHCR offices in Kakuma, Dadaab, Nairobi and other locations to conduct screening, language testing, preparation of employment applications including CVs/resumes, job interviews, completion of provincial and federal immigration documents. 

    Documentation and Record Keeping

    Maintain soft and hard copies of the program’s related documents.
    Create and document files to allow for retrieval when necessary.
    Document best practices learned when undertaking data entry and general screening.

    Information Sharing and Expectations Management

    When required, engage in information sharing/awareness-raising and expectations management sessions about labour mobility with participating applicants and the refugee community in general. Ensure the communication about prospects and opportunities is realistic and in line with program requirements and standard operating procedures.
    When needed, conduct focus group sessions with the community to assess the level of awareness about the program, clarify any misconceptions or misinformation, gather relevant information/data and field questions from the community.

    Required Qualifications:

    Officer, Food Program Associate, Livelihoods

    The primary role of this position is to implement the food assistance program, ensuring that the intended clients receive their food rations in time.
     
    The core responsibilities of this position
     
    Food Distribution

    Receive assigned food referrals in the database, create interventions, and schedule deliveries; 
    Generate and prepare lists of clients in the food program and determine the food quantities needed per location;
    Create food orders and submit them to the Social Work Program Manager for approval;
    Update the shared monthly schedule indicating the support needed for food distribution;
    Communicate with clients in the food program to ensure they are aware of the support they are entitled to;  when and how they will receive the food program support; how to raise queries or complaints, and any other communication needs that may come up related to the food program; 
    Jointly with an Admin representative; verify that the delivered food is of good quality and meets the specifications in the order;
    Receive the food items from the Admin representative and issue to the clients. Hand over to the Admin representative any balance of items at the end of the distribution in each location;
    Ensure that each recipient signs on the hard copy list and digitally on TaroWorks. Sync the data after distributing in each location;
    Take stock of the food distribution exercise and note the emerging issues. Resolve what can be addressed on-site while keeping the Social Work Program Manager in the loop. 

    Record keeping and reporting 

    Create and maintain physical food distribution records fully signed by clients at each distribution for all locations;
    Update the electronic database records to ensure all activity is captured, including case notes and delivery records with food case notes on distribution anomalies that may affect households;
    In conjunction with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting team, carry out monthly reconciliations of database records to ensure that all records tally with the procurement and physical distribution records;
    Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual activity reports and share these with the Social Work Program Manager.

      Program improvements

    In conjunction with the Social Work Program Manager & other members of the urban team, organize dialogue sessions with program recipients to increase their knowledge and understanding of nutrition needs, and proper food handling; 
    Work with the Monitoring Evaluation and Reporting Manager as well as the Social Work Program Manager to design and implement regular surveys to determine the nutritional value of the food basket provided by RefugePoint and capture client feedback and wishes;
    Identify gaps in the food program processes, make recommendations, and escalate promptly;
    In consultation with the Social Work Program Manager, review and update the food program guidelines & standard operating procedures (SOPs);
    Participate in periodic market surveys of the food basket and provide feedback to the Social Work Program Manager; 
    Provide regular feedback to the Social Work Program Manager and the procurement team on the quality of the food delivered as well as all feedback provided by program recipients.
    Attend to other duties as assigned by the supervisor

    Requirements:
    Either:

    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or another related field with at least two years of experience in stores and inventory management OR
    Diploma in Business Administration with at least three years of experience in stores and inventory management OR

    Writing and general communications

     At the direction of the Senior Communications Officer, collect and cultivate client and staff stories and draft content for various RefugePoint publications, including fundraising appeals, newsletters, grant proposals, and special reports.
     Support the Senior Communications Officer in drafting and revising existing content about URPP programs as needed.
     Support the Senior Communications Officer in the preparation of the quarterly and annual report content related to the URPP and client and staff stories for the URPP/UNCP.
     Manage the internal newsletter.
     Manage the internal staff website.
     Produce content from start to finish: from setting up interviews with other RefugePoint team members and clients, traveling into the field on a weekly basis, developing interview questions, interviewing clients to collect stories, writing final stories using quotes/audio/notes taken and submitting finalized work, with photos (sometimes video) to the Senior Communications Officer.
     Maintain strong relationships with all Nairobi teams (medical, social work, livelihoods, counseling, etc) and check in on a monthly basis for story leads, suggestions.
     Support the creation of content for the external newsletter as needed.
     Track refugee resettlement departures and update headquarters regularly. Track refugees post-departure, and set up systems to put this into place.

    Social media and website support

     Working in coordination with RefugePoint’s Social Media Strategist and other Communications team members to develop content for RefugePoint’s web and social media platforms using the content collected (client stories, staff highlights, etc).
     Provide assistance in managing and evaluating social media platforms as requested.
     Conduct media monitoring on issues related specifically to urban refugee protection and alert the Senior Communications Officer to relevant stories.

    Video and Photography

     Photograph and edit images of clients, programs, and the environment in Nairobi for RefugePoint’s publications, website, and social media.
     Film and edit, or arrange for videographers to film material for RefugePoint’s audio/visual needs.
     Organize and manage Nairobi’s image library, ensuring that all releases are signed and accessible.
     Help to maintain a spreadsheet of all client stories so that all content can be easily searched/accessed.

    Event Management and Training

     As needed by the Senior Communications Officer, assist with coordinating RefugePoint events in Nairobi, including trainings, conferences, community working groups, and fundraising forums.
     As needed, help with the printing of T-shirts and other collateral.

    Qualifications

     A strong interest in the mission of RefugePoint and refugee protection.
     Excellent writing skills (in English), proofreading, and editing skills are imperative to this position. Writing with a US-based population in mind will be required.
     Excellent interviewing skills, and communication skills in speaking, transcribing, contacting, and following up with refugee clients.
     Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, etc). Degrees in human rights or international affairs will also be considered.
     A minimum of three years of experience in a related communications position.
     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (English fluency required).
     Experience with popular social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc).
     Applicants with photography and/or videography skills are preferred. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software is also a plus.
     Familiarity with Mailchimp and WordPress CMS is a plus.

    Documentation and reporting:

    Make case notes in the database to ensure other staff are well informed on new information on assessed households;
    Work collaboratively within the urban program team to ensure clients’ needs are holistically met through review of pending cases and highlight lighting areas that need further action, highlight processes that have potential impact on clients and quality control of the databases;
    Prepare presentations on MER training, data review, program updates and develop annual and monthly work plans;
    Closely work with the Program Manager-Information Technology and Senior Officer- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting in picking trends relating to nationality, gender, income sources, and location of households as well other variables that may be determined from time to time;
    Share appropriate information with partner agencies and community members as guided.

    Position Overview:
    RefugePoint is looking for an experienced Development Manager to help grow RefugePoint’s funding portfolio in Kenya/East Africa. The role will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and will be a part of our global team—working with staff in Kenya as well as the HQ-based Development Team to develop and implement a local fundraising strategy focused particularly on institutional donors (government, foundation, corporate).
    Key responsibilities include conducting robust donor-mapping and funding research, being the lead writer for proposals and reports submitted to local/regional funders, supporting the HQ development team with grant writing and reports for Kenya program activities, and serving as a liaison with the HQ development team to plan and host donor and staff site visits.

    This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya and reports to the Deployment Program Manager (DPM), a position based at RefugePoint’s Headquarters in Boston, USA. Thus, supervision is fully remote.
    The position is a member of RefugePoint Kenya’s Senior Management Team.
    Core responsibilities and duties of the positions are as follows:

    Supervises, mentors and technically supports Experts deployed to UNHCR, to ensure high quality, efficient and professional implementation of the deployment program;
    Develops and maintains strong relationships with UNHCR HQ, Regional Bureaus and Country and Field Offices. Communicates regularly with UNHCR focal points to plan and execute deployments;
    Helps negotiate Terms of Reference (TORs) for assignments and monitors and evaluates team and individual progress at regular intervals to ensure that assignments are on track to meet targets specified in TORs;
    Assists with UNCP recruitment, including reviewing applications and conducting interviews, and works closely with HR to ensure a healthy pool of candidates is maintained;
    Provides newly recruited staff with comprehensive orientation on RefugePoint’s overall mission, the UNHCR Collaboration Project, and life as an Expert;
    Trains newly recruited Resettlement and Complementary Pathways Experts on technical areas of refugee resettlement and other pathways;
    Develops and maintain a Training Curriculum for new Experts;
    Closely reviews narrative and case tracking reports from Experts, follows up on issues presented, and collates into quarterly reports to be shared internally;
    Conducts check-ins with new Experts during the first month of their deployment, and regular check-ins with all Experts on a quarterly basis, fostering strong communication between the Expert and the UNCP, identifying best practices, and troubleshooting problems;
    Evaluates and monitors the outcomes of deployment activities and makes recommendations to enhance programming;
    As requested, contributes to discussions with the Agency’s senior management around strategy and vision of the UNCP;
    Assists in compiling quarterly narrative reports to HQ on the highlights, outputs and challenges of the UNCP;
    Promotes a sense of connectivity and professional development amongst program staff, as well as a sense of connection between program staff and others within the Agency;
    Keeps up to date with global, regional and local trends and policies in Third Country Solutions, as these conversations apply to the UNCP;
    Adheres to RefugePoint’s code of conduct, Standard Operating Procedures, guiding principles, and uphold the highest professional ethical obligations;
    Meets deadlines consistently, resolve challenges in a collaborative manner, and maintain responsive lines of communication with all levels of management and staff.

    Any other duties as assigned by the Deployment Program Manager.
    Required qualifications:

    University degree in a related field and 4 years of refugee-related work experience.
    At least 2 years of experience in a deployment program or other similar secondment program, ideally with UNHCR.
    Significant familiarity with UNHCR and its policies and procedures for partners.
    Experience working with refugees in Africa preferred
    Excellent diplomatic and interpersonal skills.
    Excellent organizational and time management skills;
    Excellent English language communication skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening)
    Experience training groups preferred;
    Experience in Child Protection/ Best Interests Procedures an advantage;
    Strong writing and analytical skills;
    Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office; knowledge of ProGres database or the ability to learn computer programs quickly an advantage;
    Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, maintaining flexibility and attention-to-detail under challenging circumstances;

    Commitment to adhere to RefugePoint and UNHCR Code of Conduct and conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
    Ability to travel in Africa on short notice and sometimes under difficult conditions, including to refugee camps, remote areas and sometimes high security environments.
