Proven ability in staff management, including coaching, motivation, performance assessment, conflict prevention and management is required.
    The post holder should be able to tie policy and nutritional outcomes for effective implementation of interventions in addition to proven experience working with multiple stakeholders in government, private sector actors and civil society partners.     About the Role

    GAIN and CARE are implementing the CAtalyzing Strengthened policy aCtion for heAlthy Diets and resiliencE (CASCADE) that aims to improve food security and contribute to the reduction of malnutrition of at least 5 million women of reproductive age and children under 5 in Benin, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Mozambique. The programme has two strategic objectives: it aims to increase access to and consumption of healthy diets, as well as increasing the resilience of households to economic and climate change-related shocks across the six countries, with a focus on women of reproductive age and children.
    The Project Manager provides functional, technical and leadership to project teams in the CASACDE project.
    They will lead a high performing cross-functional project team, and establish, manage and maintain relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders. They are responsible for the overall project management leadership and ensure the project team implement project activities within approved plans, budget, and quality standards.

    About the Role

    This position is part of a team responsible for supporting the integration of GAIN’s strategic gender objectives into all aspects of its work. This mainstreaming agenda, facilitated by GAIN’s Gender Lead, is comprised of two workstreams: programmatic and institutional. This role is responsible for accelerating GAIN’s process of integrating a gender focus into all steps of project implementation (project design, implementation, and monitoring).
    Reporting to the Senior Technical Specialist, Gender Lead, the postholder will be a thought-leader and adviser to GAIN’s Africa-based teams as they develop and implement projects. You will be responsible for providing the technical guidance and tools to ensure a gender-lens is applied and gender considerations integrated into activities. This position will rely on your previous programmatic experience implementing nutrition programs with a gender focus and their strong grasp of extant evidence on best practices in Africa.
    The postholder will be the focal person and technical advisor on gender for project teams across 6 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, implementing large-scale collaborative multi-sectoral nutrition programmes. In addition, you will utilise project data to document and present successful examples of gender integration, internally and externally. External engagement will also include building strategic relationships with regional partners including government decision makers and NGOs.

    Key Responsibilities include

    Providing technical guidance to GAIN and CARE consortium teams in 6 countries – Benin, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Uganda on integrating gender considerations into all aspects of the project lifecycle. This includes improving theories of change to reflect gender objectives set by programme, reviewing activity plans, identifying appropriate gender indicators, and advising evaluations.
    Identifying a set of gender assessment methodologies and tools and advising country teams on appropriate application.
    Leading on the development of a gender monitoring framework and in cooperation with the Programme Monitoring and Improvement Lead that tracks gender equitable outputs and outcomes.
    Providing advice to Country Directors and Project Managers and build capacity of country teams to effectively employ the monitoring framework in their project portfolios.
    Tracking project data on gender and periodically review progress on gender-focused outputs and outcomes and advising course correction when necessary.
    Engaging programme staff on gender through launching and facilitating a gender technical advisory group.
    Advising country policy teams on where they can and should integrate gender into advocacy initiatives to improve the enabling environment around gender.

    About You

    The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in gender equitable programming in Low- and Middle-Income countries within nutrition, food security, policy, advocacy and/or related programme areas, providing technical support, research, or evaluation (ideally within the international development, civil society, NGO sector). You will have proven field work experience in multiple Sub-Saharan African countries and demonstrated success working in multi-sectoral programmes and multi-cultural settings.
    You will have demonstrable experience of integrating new concepts and working with project / programme staff and multi-disciplinary teams at varying levels with an in‐depth understanding of programme issues and advocacy work at organizational, national and international levels.
    In addition to this, you will possess excellent M&E and data analysis skills, with an understanding of measuring and monitoring gender equitable outcomes, women’s empowerment/agency, and related topics in projects alongside an excellent understanding of nutrition and food systems concepts and measurement/monitoring.
    Excellent communication (written and verbal) alongside exceptional public speaking skills will be essential to this role, with the ability to communicate technical content to multi-disciplinary teams with varying levels of technical knowledge.
    Candidates should have an excellent command of written and spoken English. Fluency in a second language such as French/Portuguese would be added advantage.

    About the Role

    The post holder will play a key role in identifying technical assessment needs of SMEs, as well as being responsible for designing technical assistance support packages tailored to the individual SME’s.
    To be successful in this role the post holder will play a key role in the scaling up process in order to consolidate the chances of the project making a real impact and its ability to grow and succeed. They will work on innovative financing, impact investing and coordinate activities under the Nourishing Food Pathways(NFP) work package focused on innovative finance for nutrition.
    The Senior Associate will work closely with the Programme Lead, other project colleagues and the other GAIN Country Offices. 

    The Nutritious Foods Financing Facility (N3F): Pioneering Nutrition Financing 

    Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are a critical engine of transformation: in Africa, for example, they produce over half of calories and over 80% of animal-source foods, fruits, and vegetables, while processing or handling about 65% of food in later stages of the value chain. For low-income consumers in particular, SMEs are essential for ensuring access to nutritious, safe foods.
    Even though SMEs play such an essential role in food systems, they struggle to access the financing necessary to scale up their offerings to increase the availability and accessibility of nutritious, safe foods.
    The N3F aims to address these problems through a blended finance approach that focuses on improving nutrition by supporting SMEs in Sub-Saharan Africa. The N3F will provide targeted funding to SMEs based on their financial needs and their ability to absorb and use the funds. With consumer nutrition at its core, N3F will have an integrated approach to impact and assess how SMEs support gender equity, environmental sustainability, engagement of consumers and suppliers, and employment.
    To ensure the power of SMEs to deliver nutritious, safe foods is fully unleashed, N3F will also provide support beyond financing, through a technical assistance and impact monitoring component. These components are both led by GAIN, drawing on several years’ prior experience of providing technical assistance to SMEs.

    Key Responsibilities include

    Identify technical assessment needs of SMEs operating in the food value chain that are potential pipeline for the Nutritious Food Financing Facility (N3F) Fund, working together with the investment officers at our partner asset manager Incofin Investment Management.
    Develop technical assistance support packages tailored to individual SMEs and group training according to common needs in the portfolio.
    Perform matchmaking between Technical Assistance(TA) requirements and service providers, manage engagements between GAIN, service providers, and our beneficiaries.
    Oversee the implementation of project workplans and ensure that all assignments deliver maximum value for money.
    Review and refine procedures, monitoring mechanisms, and feedback forms for the provision of TA to SMEs.
    Represent GAIN at national and regional technical meetings and workshops and assist in coordinating the organization of national and international events, technical meetings, and workshops.

    About You

    The ideal candidate for this position should have professional experience and technical understanding related to impact investment and/or development finance, business development, due diligence, food supply chains and SMEs.
    You will have the ability to operate within the private and public sectors to effectively liaise diverse stakeholders and multi-cultural settings. You have experience working in accelerator or business incubator settings and constantly assessing impact investing.
    The position holder should possess excellent coordination, communication, research, and writing skills with a strong analytical ability.     The Manager, Finance and Compliance is a key position in the Kenya country office. This position is expected to support senior finance managers in the provision of effective, high quality financial management services to the organisation.     About the Role
    The Knowledge Leadership (KL) team provides support across all programmatic areas within GAIN, working with programme teams to bring nutrition and related expertise into programme design and delivery and leading on the development and use of learning agendas to inform programme progress and impact. The KL team supports the implementation and dissemination of research, evaluation and learning activities in support of the country and global programme teams. GAIN works with private sector to envision and support their proactive role in food systems transformation. This includes both small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in food value chains, and employers of vulnerable works.
    Reporting to the Senior Manager, Knowledge Leadership, you will support the knowledge management, knowledge mobilization, research, and learning activities of GAIN programmes that support small businesses and employers to transform food systems. This includes but is not limited to SME cluster (the SUN business network) as well as selected workstreams in the Drivers of Food Systems Transformation portfolio (workforce nutrition, social protection).
    Key Responsibilities include;

    Conducting reviews of literatures relevant to various programmes learning agenda and in response to emerging research questions
    Providing technical support to the development and modification of country and global-level performance measurement frameworks (including logic models and results frameworks) for relevant projects and programmes, in consultation with relevant KL advisors and country programme managers
    Working closely with colleagues to implement the programmes research activities (e.g., support training for data collection; supervise data collection activities; manage datasets and conduct simple data analysis; verify data quality)
    Carrying out analysis on qualitative and quantitative data, including statistical analyses and format / design results for oral and written dissemination
    Supporting in the preparation of reports, briefs, presentations, and other knowledge products for the dissemination of research and programme findings and learnings

    About You

    The ideal candidate will have demonstrated related experience in food systems research and in leading and developing GAIN’s knowledge products (Working Papers, Briefing Papers). You will have knowledge of nutrition and food systems relevant to GAIN’s programming areas and quantitative and qualitative research methods and understanding of field data collection in low- or middle-income countries and associated challenges. Candidate with experience with the private sector a plus.
    You should have excellent communication, writing and presentation skills, willing and able to work in multicultural and multilingual environments. The postholder should have ability to conduct literature reviews, and systematically synthesize information.
    You should be computer literate with excellent MS Office skills, experience with data analysis software such as Stata is a plus.

    The Senior Associate is responsible for ensuring the design, production, and implementation of creative ideas is technically sound and aligned to the overall programmatic strategy. The primary focus is on supporting communications through mass media (radio, TV, social media, out of home) and promotional strategies through retail and community events. Ideally, the role holder will also be able to support social and behaviour change communication strategies.
    You will work in a cross-functional, cross-disciplinary team ensuring coordination and cohesion among programmatic strategies across demand, supply and enabling environment. The cross functional team consists of in-country and global programme staff with expertise in consumer insights, brand marketing, agribusiness, retail marketing, policy, and community engagement.
    Key Responsibilities include;

    Contributing to the creative design process, by ensuring the core idea/brand is translated into appropriate consumer-relevant communication activities, and by drafting/reviewing agency briefs

In addition to this, you will posess a strong track record in leading and developing people with exceptional influencing, networking, negotiation and advocacy skills.
    Skills in quantitative research methods is essential to the role (i.e survey design, implementation, data analysis, survey management, budgeting, etc).
    A PhD in nutrition, public health, or related field is required. Formal project management and leadership training would be a distinct advantage.
