    The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a highly talented Communication Associate to organise and manage the internal and external communications activities of the commercialisation of Biofortified Foods Programme and heighten the visibility of the projects in six selected countries in Asia and Africa. This role will be based out of Nairobi, Kenya and will have a truly global impact.

    About the role

    As Communications Associate, you will be responsible for organising the internal and external communications activities of the Commercialisation of Biofortified Foods Programme at global and country levels as well as developing co-branded materials.

    Role specifics include; 

    Work with the global and country commercialisation of biofortified foods team to develop and implement a communications plan that will guide the programme’s internal and external communication.
    Work with country teams in 6 countries where the programme is active to develop quality co-branded advocacy/communications materials (e.g. flyers, leaflets, fact sheets, success stories, media kits, photographs, video clips, documentaries, radio programs etc).   
    Work with the global and country teams to synthesise research reports into high-level highlights that guide decision making and promote learning within the programme and across the two partner organisations.
    Support the global and country teams to generate content for social media outlets including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Blogs and website
    Support Project Managers in coordinating events and information and knowledge needed by the various crop platforms.

    About you

    You must be a self-starter with proven experience of working in a similar role, preferably with an NGO or international organisation. You will be an effective communicator and be able to use this skill to develop positive relationships to motivate the team and external stakeholders. In addition, you will have professional experience working in communications, directly or indirectly related to food supply chains, SMEs. You must be confident and fully conversant in business English, both written and verbal. Fluency in another GAIN country language would be an advantage.

    The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a project manager to oversee and deliver a key USAID funded project in Kenya. This role will be based out of Nairobi and is offered on a four year fixed-term contract basis.
    About the role
    The USAID funded, Mfumo Imara Lishe Endelevu (MILE) project, translating as Solid System, aims to sustainably reduce levels of acute malnutrition among vulnerable populations in Isiolo and Marsabit counties of ASAL regions of Kenya. GAIN will work amongst other partners to build on its expertise in developing and testing market-based innovations in the Kenyan food system to facilitate greater availability of nutritious and diverse foods in target county markets.
    Reporting to the Country Director, the Project Manager will monitor and manage the progress of MILE Project in Kenya. Key responsibilities include;

    Leading on all the MILE related technical assistance and implementation activities as defined in the project proposal and work plan.
    Ensuring that the interventions by different partners are coordinated so that overall project milestones and goals are met, providing technical support as required.
    Oversee financial control and proactively review, make recommendations and report on programmatic activities to support the delivery of GAIN’s strategic plan for MILE in Kenya.

    About you

    Solid experience international development experience in Kenya as a project manager
    Proven experience in delivering projects on time / on budget, using project management processes and tools including risk management, benefits management, financial management and quality assurance
    Strong understanding of Kenya’s food system, including food production and food safety considerations
    Experience working in Isiolo and Marsabit counties of ASAL regions of Kenya or northern Kenya.
    Experience working in a public/private partnership environment.

    GAIN is searching for a Finance and Administration Manager to be responsible for the supervision and coordination of the administrative, financial, governance, IT and HR services to the programme operations and the GAIN Kenya office based in Nairobi.
    The Finance and Administration Manager will be responsible to provide financial management and administration support to all aspects of GAIN Kenya office functions while ensuring compliance with the global GAIN policies, systems, procedures and external requirements, such as local laws, donors and partners. Some specific responsibilities include;

    Supervise the finance section and ensure financial transactions are recorded in line with GAIN norms and standards in a timely fashion. Maintain financial records including ledger, journal, petty cash and cash books and bank details. Manage receivables and payables in line with GAIN guidelines. Prepare cash flow and fund flow statements for review.
    Ensure staff understand and comply with GAIN’s administration policies and procedures as procurement, security, travel and expense reporting.
    Support the compliance processes with the requirements for NGO operations with the government of Kenya. Coordinate with other ministries on approvals, statutory and legal compliances in adherence to country law.
    Monitors fieldwork and partners to verify financial expenditure and reports and provide technical support to partners and program team on effective use of resources.

    Candidates for this position must have demonstrable professional experience in a financial managerial position, including experience managing donor grants and external consultancies. Additionally, they will be able to evidence strong organisational and leadership skills to coach and provide guidance to staff. Candidates for this role should possess excellent decision making, problem-solving and strong communication skills to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

    The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is searching for an experienced Senior Programme Manager to oversee and implement the GAIN and HarvestPlus global Commercialization of Biofortified Crops initiative.
    GAIN is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition.
    The Senior Programme Manager will manage GAIN’s engagement with our partner organisations, specifically around commercialization and marketing of biofortified crops. They will bring excellent program management skills, overseeing the strategy and implementation of this exciting multi-donor, multi-country project in partnership with other organisations. Role specifics include;

    Co-lead, with our Partner, the development of a detailed workplan to support the commercialization of biofortified crops in Asia and Africa, clarifying how GAIN and our partner will ensure impact, scale, and sustainability in a small number of strategically selected geographies.
    Oversight of the design and implementation of business planning services to strengthen the performance of enterprises along the supply chain that produce, store, aggregate, transport, wholesale, transform/manufacture, and retail biofortified products.
    Work closely with GAIN’s Knowledge Leadership and our Partner’s MEL groups to ensure monitoring, evaluation and learning takes place within the commercialization activities
    Coordinate with and report to the partnership donors.
    Contribute towards the development of new business opportunities for GAIN and our Partner to generate additional funding for the commercialization of biofortified crops.
    To be considered for this role, you will need to evidence demonstrable success in managing multi-country, multi-donor and multi-partner consortium projects of £10M USD (or equivalent) or more. You must be able to demonstrate excellent strategic and diplomatic abilities to effectively represent GAIN and our partners. You should have recognised expertise in market strengthening and product development and have the ability to operate within both public and private sector environments, specifically in relation to food enterprises, development agencies and governments at a senior level.

    Provide technical oversight to the implementation of activities that bring biofortified crops to scale through commercialization activities

    Candidates for this position must have demonstrable professional experience directly, or indirectly, related to marketing foods and supply chains and international development, including implementation of market-based agricultural or nutrition programs and projects.     The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is searching for a Senior Programme Assistant to support them in the delivery of an exciting, high impact biofortified crops programme.
    The Organisation
    GAIN is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. GAIN is a Swiss based international organization that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition. The organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated 700 million people in more than 30 countries, half of whom are women and children.
    In May 2018, GAIN and HarvestPlus announced a partnership to accelerate progress in improving access to essential vitamins and minerals for vulnerable people, through the commercialization of biofortified crops. GAIN and HarvestPlus share an ambition to expand coverage of biofortified nutrient dense foods to at least 200 million consumers by 2022. The focus will be on biofortified varieties of six highly promising crops, developed by HarvestPlus and its partners.
    The Role
    Based in Kenya, The Senior Program Assistant will provide administrative support for the GAIN and HarvestPlus Commercializing Biofortified Foods Program. They will play an important role in ensuring the smooth running of the programme, with key responsibilities including;

    Support to program service providers to track the submission of deliverables against executed contracts.
    Processing of payments to consultants and other service providers
    Ensuring all program related expenses are properly coded to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
    Assist the Senior Program Manager in the development of documentation relating to budgets, cost analyses, reports and forecasting.
    Other duties as required by the Senior Program Manager.

    The Candidate
    We are looking for a candidate who has strong experience in an administrative role, preferably with an international NGO working in agriculture and nutrition. Demonstrated excellence in written/verbal communications is a must, along with a solid background in research, writing, and analytical ability. A flexible approach to working will be necessary as there will be some out of hours commitments.

    The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing the performance of consultants and subcontractors, as well as experience and knowledge in food science, technology and the agriculture or business. You must be comfortable with report writing and be able to analyse and make recommendations for the improvement of technical reports and business documents (business plans, market research).     The Administrative Assistant will perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks including; providing support to GAIN Kenya’s managers and employees, assisting in daily office needs and managing the organisation’s general admin activities.
    GAIN Kenya seeks an enthusiastic and experienced administrator who will work closely with the staff team to smooth systems and processes. She/he will prepare account payables documents for approval and oversea the proper upkeep and maintenance of office premises and working facilities to provide the best possible physical environment for staff. The Administrative Assistant will organise logistics of meetings and workshops for GAIN Kenya, including travel arrangements.
    The ideal candidate will have good interpersonal, organisational and oral and written communication skills. They will have the ability to prioritise and multi-task and be flexible in working outside regular working hours. She/he will have proven experience as administrative assistant or office administrative assistant. The ideal candidate will be competent in using MS word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and have basic accounting skills.
    Ideally, she/he will have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or have equivalent work experience.
