    The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Senior Administrative Assistant to support the office administrative duties of GAIN Kenya office. This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. Candidates will ideally be available to start by 1st March 2022.
    About the Role
    Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Senior Administrative Assistant will perform all office administrative duties and ensure the smooth running of the office.
    The postholder will be responsible for logistical, procurement and basic accounting tasks. You will be expected to demonstrate commitment and loyalty and perform all duties in accordance with the organization’s office routines and procedures, keeping in mind the overall organisation objectives.
    Key Responsibilities include;

    Managing general administration of GAIN Kenya office including; the implementation of effective and efficient office procedures and systems, providing support to employees related to facilities and offices, including development of new systems and processes as appropriate
    Maintaining supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies and verifying receipt of supplies
    Overseeing the maintenance of office premises and working facilities like telephone system, printers and furniture to provide the best possible physical environment for staff to discharge their duties
    Collaborating with GAIN IT Team to ensure Office IT systems are functioning efficiently and ensures the organization and maintenance of paper and electronic filing systems that facilitate easy access to information for Nairobi and HQ staff
    Organising logistics of meetings and workshops for GAIN program, including travel arrangements for internal and external events
    Preparing accounting supporting documents as per the organization policies (e.g. raise PO on a timely manner), including seeking for approval from project managers and budget holders

    About You
    The ideal candidate should have previous experience in administrative support. You should be reliable and enjoy working in a multi-cultural, cross functional team and proactively with a commitment to quality and accuracy with close attention to detail.
    The postholder should be able to prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure with frequent deadlines. Also, you should be computer literacy with good Excel, MS Word, Outlook and Power Point. You should be highly flexible and occasional availability to work outside regular working hours.

    About the Role
    The Senior Project Manager is a leadership role. The postholder is expected to ensure effective ongoing performance of a complex and ambitious food systems project through leading a team of direct reports and functional specialists (advisors). Theyy will be directly responsible for managing key stakeholder relationships internally and externally.
    The post is a dynamic and exciting role. The Sr. Project Manager will be expected to quickly develop strong relationships with their team, relevant partners, exploiting synergies within GAIN and with external stakeholders to ensure continued, effective project delivery. This role is offered on a fixed-term basis until December 2024, subject to funding, and is based in the GAIN office in Nairobi, Kenya.
    Specific Responsibilities include;

    Leading and managing the activity planning and schedule of project timelines, in close collaboration with the PST and KL focal points to ensure integration and coherence among all project activities
    Supervising the implementation of project activities to ensure they are completed in a timely manner in accordance with Project Management Guidelines, and in collaboration with the PST & KL focal points, local partners, and country leadership.
    Reviewing project deliverables and ensure their timely delivery
    Leading resource allocation, budgets and forecasting.
    Ensuring efficient management of project funds through regular tracking of funds utilization and gaps thereof along with Kenya and global finance point persons.
    Establishing and maintaining close collaboration with GAIN subject matter experts in PST and KL.
    Maintaining high level liaison with government stakeholders (county level) and other organizations working on complementary projects in the country context to share knowledge and best practice.
    Line managing direct reports, specifically supporting yearly work plan development and performance management.
    Developing direct reports to maximize their contribution to the project team and organization.

    About You
    Applicants for this role should have proven experience in international development within a project management/project leadership role with an existing network in Kenya. They should have demonstrable experience in delivering projects on time and on budget and should be confident using project management processes and tools to ensure that project goals are consistently met. They should have a strong understanding of Kenyan public health sector and existing food systems, and ideally will have previous experience working with the Kenyan government at county and/or national levels.
    In addition to the above, applicants should possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in management, business management, nutrition, food science, health, international development, or a relevant field. Additional Master’s qualifications in the above fields and/or in project management or business administration are highly desirable.

    Conducting pre-grant and post-grant due diligence on the project’s shortlisted businesses

    Supporting the business in product development and market expansion
    Participating and contributing to development and implementation of project work plans

    About You
    You should have good experience in the agri-food sector in Kenya, and be able to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to develop solutions within this space. You must have experience in business development, especially business planning, as well as finance (SME finance, grant funding management etc) and the contract management process from requisition and tendering through to award and close out. It would be desirable for you to have experience of public / private partnerships and private sector experience, especially in the ASAL region and/or a strong understanding of supply chain analysis. In addition, you should hold at minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Entrepreneurship & SME Management and/or equivalent work experience. A diploma or equivalent certification in project management or business administration would be advantageous.

    The HoP will be responsible for overseeing the design, development and successful implementation of the GAIN Kenya Programme Portfolio.     Specific Responsibilities include;

    Experience in donor reporting, policy work (from organisation to international) is desirable, as is a strong understanding of the nutrition-food systems nexus.

    About the role
    The Country Programs Operations Lead (CPOL) will provide highly skilled and senior-level strategic operational support to the Country Directors (CDs) across GAIN’s nine Country Programmes. They will lead in the ongoing development and improvements of operations in GAIN countries.
    As a centralized position, the CPOL will support countries to achieve high quality integrated planning and to deliver standardized operational practices working in collaboration with professional services (Finance, HR, IT) in GAIN. The CPOL promotes and provides quality assurance, monitoring of business plans, and consistent management compliance.
    In addition to this, the CPOL may be deployed to Country Programmes for short-term on-site assignments and must be capable of quickly assuming the Country Director (CD) position in-country on an interim basis. They may also be called upon to support where the CD is in place but requests operational assistance.
    Specific responsibilities include:

    Provide senior leadership and managerial expertise to support the implementation of country business plans and the day-to-day delivery of programmes and operational support
    Provide interim emergency cover and operational assistance for Country Directors for a period of 2-8 weeks as necessary

    Support the CDs and their Country Management Teams on the operationalization of country business plans. This includes tracking of progress against the Country Development Model, supporting the Senior Associates with the operations aspects of their functional roles, and coordinating reviews and updates.
    Lead on the development and maintenance of a Country Information Hub that collects data from various existing information systems in GAIN in order to provide the CPT, DCP (and senior leadership) with management reports

    About you
    The successful candidate will have leadership and management experience in leading and developing projects in a multi-cultural environment at international level within the private sector, food industry or with development organizations. You will have a strong understanding of public health and community development alongside a good understanding of key trends in international and humanitarian development.

    A Degree in International Development, Business Administration or Emergency Management or equivalent professional experience.
    Solid experience in representation with key donors, government, and internal and external stakeholders with a demonstrable track record in fundraising and business development.
    Excellent understanding and experience of risk, programme, project, financial and operational management.
    Strong experience in donor reporting, designing, setting up and coordinating, monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment systems and processes.
    Proven track record of developing strategies, and short-term interim management of international development programmes achieving key objectives and delivering core outputs.

    About the role
    The Programme Lead will be responsible for building out GAIN’s programming in commercialisation of biofortified crops through programme design, technical support to country programmes, and supporting on-time and on-budget delivery across all country programmes. In addition, the postholder will manage GAIN’s engagement with our partner organisations, specifically around commercialisation and marketing of biofortified crops. They will bring excellent portfolio management skills to the relationship between GAIN, HarvestPlus and our other partners, and take a lead role within GAIN in supporting the execution of the commercialisation of biofortified crops strategy.
    Specific responsibilities include:

    Provide technical oversight to the implementation of activities that bring biofortified crops to scale through commercialisation activities.
    Co-lead, with our partners, the development of detailed workplans to support the commercialisation of biofortified crops in Asia and Africa, clarifying how GAIN and our partners will ensure impact, scale, and sustainability in a small number of strategically selected geographies.

    Provide technical support to development office on major bids for multi-country / multi-sectoral proposals and strategic donors.

    About you
    The successful candidate will have experience working at both global and country levels with strong examples of effectively liaising with food enterprises, development agencies, and governments at senior level. You must also have excellent written/verbal communications, research, writing, and analytical ability.

    University level degree in a relevant field such as business and marketing, food technology, development studies, economics, agricultural development, or other relevant technical field.
    Demonstrable success in managing multi-country, multi-donor, multi-partner consortium projects of $10M or more.
    Substantial level of professional experience directly or indirectly related to marketing foods, new product category development, supply chains and international development. Experience implementing large market-based nutrition programs and projects will be an added advantage.
    Strong business-to-business (B2B) development skills, trade marketing, or partnership management. Blend of private and public experience preferred.

    About the role
    The USAID funded NAWIRI Project aims to sustainably reduce levels of acute malnutrition among vulnerable populations in Isiolo and Marsabit counties in Kenya. GAIN is a partner on the CRS-led consortium, working alongside others to understand the functionality of the local private sector actors; the functionality of local market systems; the implications of this for acute malnutrition patterns and ways in which the private sector could be leveraged to improve the availability, accessibility, affordability, and desirability of nutritious foods to vulnerable households in the region.
    Reporting to the Project Manager, as Project Associate you will provide technical expertise to create and sustain consumer demand for nutritious foods in Isolo and Marsabit Counties. You will be responsible for consumer-facing marketing activities that encourage purchasing of nutritious foods.
    Role specifics include;

    Assess nutritious foods marketing opportunities and work with the Project Manager to develop / revise market expansion strategy for the GAIN supported SMEs
    Facilitate the development of the position of branded nutritious food based on lower-income family preferences.
    Identify effective and efficient promotion activities in collaboration with civil society, government and private sectors, and facilitate the implementation of such activities
    Participate and contribute to development and implementation of project work plans.
    Provide assistance to the project manager by documenting and monitoring the project progress against project workplan and budget.
    Collect, document, collate and analyse project data for monitoring and management information purposes
    Plan, coordinate and organize time-bound project site visits

    About you
    You will need to have good experience in the agri-food sector in Kenya, with a specific focus on advertising and / or marketing of food to consumers. Previous experience of working in food sales would be highly desirable.
    Although not essential, it would be beneficial if you can evidence past professional experience within a public / private partnership environment, particularly in the ASAL area of Kenya.

    About the role
    The Monitoring Associate will provide monitoring support to the Kenya team to design, coordinate and implement the monitoring framework of the Programme. This position will report to the Kenya Head of Programmes.
    This role is offered on a fixed term contract of up to 2 years subject to funding.
    Role specifics will include;

    Support GAIN country and KL team to develop results frameworks/logical frameworks and monitoring plans, develop and ensure adequate use monitoring tools for GAIN Kenya projects.
    Quality assure and oversee the collection of routine monitoring data by implementing agencies and governments to track progress of programme activities towards objectives.
    Contribute to analysis of information collected and support all dissemination efforts including writing reports, briefs and other materials.
    Support dissemination of results while keeping GAIN project management team and the country director regularly updated on project status (on track or off track) with critical analyses and possible solutions to challenges based on interactions with partner organizations.
    Ensure appropriate completion and systematic storage for general project documents as well as datasets and assessment specific documentation.

    About you
    The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, with great attention to detail and accuracy. You must also have previous experience in management, documentation and analysis of quantitative data, including the use of data management and statistical analysis software.

    Minimum Masters level training in nutrition, public health, or a suitable equivalent.
    Experience in the development and operationalization of result frameworks and monitoring plans.
    Experience in analysis and use of monitoring data for management of nutrition / health programs.
    Design, conduct, and dissemination of implementation research or programme monitoring is an asset.
