    About The Position
    The EPI is looking for an accomplished innovative Communications Director to take the lead in developing and implementing the overall Communications Strategy for the EPI – which will outline prioritised communications objectives and activities and be reviewed on an annual basis – and manage media, branding, marketing and communications functions. They will work to ensure awareness of the EPI’s work both regionally and globally, internally and externally, and foster greater understanding and support for its mission. The EPI Director of Communications will work independently and as part of a small team based in Nairobi and London, and in partnership with government, IGO and NGO partners in Africa and elsewhere.
    Their goals will be to improve external and internal EPI Communications, establish and promote the EPI “brand”, deliver press coverage and promotion, maintain an effective EPI website, and raise EPI’s social media profile – as well as other related goals as agreed. They will have strong relationships with EPI Secretariat Staff, and an up-to-date knowledge of their upcoming work and progress so that they can use this strategically to promote the EPI.
    This role will manage, according to need and available resources, the production and maintenance of key communications material including factsheets, maps, film and web content in support of the EPI’s overall programme and fundraising efforts as required.
    The EPI Director of Communications will be contracted to Stop Ivory, but will fulfil an EPI Secretariat function jointly managed by Stop Ivory and Conservation International. They will report to and be tasked by the EPI Secretariat’s lead representative from both Stop Ivory and Conservation International, who work closely together on all aspects of EPI Implementation.
    This is a full-time role with flexible and/or remote working opportunities.
    Key Responsibilities
    External communications: The role of Director of Communications is responsible for the EPI’s public relations. This includes identifying opportunities for media outreach, preparing media releases and other content for news and feature articles, working with the press, arranging interviews for EPI spokespeople, writing on behalf of EPI spokespeople, and preparing spokespeople for press conferences, media interviews, and speeches.
    They will also manage EPI issued content for the EPI’s website and social media outlets, and make various other contributions to EPI activities e.g. contributing to the EPI’s quarterly and annual reports.
    Internal communications: The EPI Director of Communications will coordinate and manage the EPI’s internal communications. They will use meetings to exchange information on key EPI and other elephant related news, projects and events, and ensure all EPI staff are aware of them well in advance to enable appropriate engagement. The post holder will identify suitable breaking news stories and support the EPI’s contributions to their dissemination, providing copywriting and messaging services as needed. This role is directly responsible for the EPI Info Hub.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    A proven track record of not less than ten years of developing and delivering effective communications strategies in addition to designing and implementing communications activities and promotional materials and communicating information to a wide range of audiences
    Fluency in English, both written and verbal, with proven presentation, proof reading, and editing skills is a must. Working knowledge of French or Portuguese is an added advantage
    Demonstrated in-depth proficiency in writing or editing complex communications products
    Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to connect with people from all walks of life
    Demonstrated experience in working with both traditional and social media, especially with news placement, blogging and awareness campaigns.
    Proficiency in working with various media formats – print, audio, video and websites; Proven experience in delivery of digital campaigns will be an added advantage

    About The Position: The Africa Field Division (AfFD) has established offices in five countries (Botswana, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, and South Africa) and working relations with a further 12 countries in Africa – covering a continent with wide ranging economic conditions, a rich natural capital base as well as diverse socio-economic and environmental challenges.
    There is a need to bring in an experienced Technical Manager to support the overall implementation of the Sustainable Production Programme working across the following sectors: Mining and Extractives, Agriculture, Renewable Energy and Fisheries.
    S/he will also be responsible for the Monitoring and Evaluation of all the projects/programmes that relate to the Division’s Sustainable Production Programme.
    Key Responsibilities:
    Working closely with Project Partners, both within and outside of Conservation International, the incumbent is expected to:

    Ensure development and implementation of agreed project work plans, creating synergies and cooperation with the existing programmes on sustainable production.
    Effectively monitor, evaluate and report (internally and externally) on the specific projects based on the agreed results frameworks.
    Development of and building of relationships/partnerships with key governments, private and non-governmental partners will be a key responsibility for this position, including serving as an institutional representative at workshops can conferences both internally and externally.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Vital Signs is an integrated Monitoring System that intends to guide policy and decision making and monitor their outcomes to ensure that agricultural development does not unduly degrade natural ecosystems and the services they provide. The monitoring system is currently being implemented in, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya.
    Vital Signs has partnered with the GEF and IFAD to develop a monitoring and assessment platform for the GEF Food Security Integrated Approach Pilot Program. The program has three components: (i) strengthening of institutional frameworks to promote integrated approaches in smallholder agriculture; (ii) promote scaling-up of interventions for sustainability and resilience; and (iii) ensure effective monitoring of ecosystem services and global environmental benefits through application of innovative tools and practices. The program will be implemented in twelve African countries (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Swaziland, Tanzania and Uganda).
    Vital Signs is seeking the services of a Remote Sensing Analyst to support the Monitoring and Assessment component of the program. The Remote Sensing Analyst will compile, analyze, interpret, manage, and distribute remote sensing imagery (MODIS, Landsat, Digital Globe). S/he will play a lead role in ensuring that baseline land cover maps are compiled and that land cover trends are analyzed at project and regional scales.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    S/he will have the following main responsibilities:

    Develop baseline land cover maps for all projects that have geo-referenced spatial boundaries at 30m and at very high resolution, where data are available.
    Develop a regional-scale land cover map (30m).
    Perform modelling and classification analyses using time-series datasets (e.g., climate, satellite, and reanalysis data) for ecosystem modelling and climate variability research, including generating customized code, based on R and Python, for large volume data processing and analysis.
    Capacity building for expanding the use of the data, methods and tools to other countries and regions.
    Contribute written input and technical guidance to the IAP project.
    Manage the highly visible, complex technical IAP project including meeting donor deadlines.
    Manage external partner relationships including development of capacity and generation of outputs to guide partners in making decisions.
    Contribute to reporting structures as laid out in the IAP documentation and the preparation of the Annual Work Plan and Budget.
    Undertake any other duties, within her/his area of competence, as assigned by CI as it relates to this project.

    On December 18th 2017, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat approved the project document for implementation of a medium sized project with funding from the newly established Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency(CBIT) .
    The project entitled “Strengthening National Capacity in Kenya to Meet the Transparency Requirements of the Paris Agreement and Supporting the Coordination of National, Regional and Global Transparency-related Activities in Kenya.” will be executed by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MENR) through the Climate Change Directorate(CCD) and System for Land based Emissions Estimations in Kenya(SLEEK), Vital Signs Programme and the Green House Gas Management Institute(GHGMI).
    The main objective of the project is to build capacity of institutions in Kenya to ensure compliance with the Paris Agreement Transparency Requirements. The main project outcomes include:
    Strengthened national institutions in Kenya for transparency-related activities in line with Kenya’s national priorities.
    The System for Land-Based Emission Estimation in Kenya (SLEEK) strengthened and to assist with improvement of transparency over time.
    The coordination between national, regional and global transparency related activities in Kenya enhanced
    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    The project manager will be responsible for the overall management of project activities including acting as secretary of the Project Steering Committee. H/She will coordinate delivery of the project components and all project activities and act as liaison between the project stakeholders including the Climate Change Directorate(CCD), System for Land based Emissions Estimations in Kenya (SLEEK) Secretariat, The Green House Gas Management Institute(GHGMI) and Vital Signs.     QUALIFICATIONS

    A higher degree in Environmental Sciences with sound knowledge in climate change, biodiversity and land degradation and sustainable forest management, as well as demonstrable experience working with the Government of Kenya.
    A minimum of four years of experience in the fields of environmental project implementation, climate change impacts and adaptation, climate change international and national reporting and green gas house emissions.
    Proven track record in managing projects; proficiency in report preparation, work planning, results monitoring and evaluation.
    Highly organized and strong attention to detail.
    Experience conducting training workshops or teaching at the undergraduate level.

    About The Position
    The Director of National Elephant Action Plans (NEAPs) is responsible for providing strategic oversight and programmatic direction for National Elephant Action Plans across Africa. W orking independently and as part of a small team based in Nairobi and London, and in partnership with government, IGO and NGO partners in Africa and elsewhere, they will play a pivotal role in supporting African governments and partner NGOs to develop, review and implement NEAPs – utilizing the NEAP Standards and Guidelines and assisting with their periodic review process.

Duties are diverse, and include designing and implementing program and conservation strategies, project management, technical oversight and monitoring, fundraising and capacity building. The Director of NEAPs ensures compliance with EPI policies, program and funding agreements, and local requirements.
    The EPI Director of NEAPs will be contracted to Stop Ivory, but will fulfil an EPI Secretariat function jointly managed by Stop Ivory and Conservation International. They will report to and be tasked by the EPI Secretariat’s lead representative from both Stop Ivory and Conservation International, who work closely together on all aspects of EPI Implementation.
    Key Responsibilities

    Lead in the development and implementation of specific NEAP’s and NEAP associated projects by provide technical and coordination design
    Represent the EPI externally at key international conferences and other events to share best practices and lessons learned, and serve as a trusted point of contact for EPIEffectively engage stakeholders including donors, government and NGOs, technical colleagues and other partners important to program success.
    Identify opportunities for program growth and development and support the programme’ s financial sustainability by identifying funding opportunities. Regularly partner with EPI Secretariat staff on funding proposals and regional/global fundraising efforts.Organise regional meetings, working groups, and training as required to promote information sharing. Working closely with the Communications Team, build stakeholder understanding and support by helping develop fact sheets, and related materials.Ensure compliance with EPI policies, funding agreements and local requirements.Lead on securing effective input into the NEAP process from the IUCN African Elephant Specialist Group.Perform other related duties as agreed.

    Required
    QUALIFICATIONS

    Advanced degree in biological, environmental or conservation science or related field.
    A proven track record of not less than ten years of developing conservation programmes with Conservation INGO’s/NGOs, preferably in Africa.
    Proven track record of securing and managing large grants, contractual agreements and project budgets
    Proven project management experience for cross-border projects and/or multi-site projects.
    Ability to engage with a variety of audiences from grass roots to high ranking government and/or donors.
    Successful experience in negotiating complex agreements with governments, NGO’S and other key supporters
    Exceptional project management skills.
    Fluency in English, both written and verbal is a must. Working knowledge of French or Portuguese is an added advantage.
    Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
    Computer literacy in relation to office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint).
    A good understanding of Africa and conservation landscape, especially with member of the EPI.
    A self-starter who is able to work well independently and a strong team player with proven diplomacy skills and ability to work effectively with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams displaying sensitivity and respect for diversity

    Preferred
    Demonstrated ability to work under pressure managing competing demands and complex situations and deliver satisfactory and timely results;Willing to travel periodically across Africa.
    WORKING CONDITIONS
    This position will supervise work of experts and consultants (including tech developers) contracted to work on related EPI activities and oversee and evaluate their delivered outputs.This is a fixed term contract position that may be renewed subject to funding.

    The Regional Programme Manager will play a role in securing programme funding, developing project proposals and managing funding relationships with various partners. S/he will be expected to regularly represent CI and build alliances with key external stakeholders including government and NGO officials, donors and other parties critical to programme success
    This position does not manage staff. Duties are performed under general direction and subject to general review.
    Key Responsibilities
    General (60%): This role is responsible for the strategic support and management of a portfolio of conservation, livelihoods and enforcement projects across the Africa region and includes amongst others these tasks:
    Provide technical and coordination support for the development and implementation of projects across the region
    Develop program strategies, objectives, work plans and metrics.
    Monitor, measure, and provide periodic progress, metric and concept reports.
    Ensure compliance with CI policies, funding agreements and local requirements.
    Identify capacity building needs and support efforts to address capacity gaps.
    Promote information sharing. Build stakeholder understanding and support by developing fact sheets, statistics, and related conservation, enforcement and livelihoods materials.
    Present at conferences and other events to share best practices and lessons learned.
    Effectively engage stakeholders including donors, government and NGOs, technical colleagues and other partners important to program success.
    Represent the organization externally and serve as a trusted point of contact for CI.
    Identify opportunities for program growth and development.
    Support program financial sustainability by identifying funding opportunities. Partner with CI and HQ staff on funding proposals and contribute to regional/global fundraising efforts.
    Organise regional meetings, working groups, and trainings as required
    Assist with CI content for websites and social media and various other contributions to CI global activities.
    Perform related duties as assigned.
    Regional Support(40%): This role will provide technical, monitoring and advisory support to the CI country programs in Madagascar, Liberia, South Africa and Botswana and at times to the EPI member states in relation to:
    Wildlife and forestry conservation
    Wildlife, forestry and marine laws, policies, crime, trafficking and enforcement
    Human Wildlife Conflict
    Livelihoods and conservation
    Support to the Executive Director on the EPI program
    Qualifications
    Master of Science Degree in Environmental, Biological or Conservation Sciences, with not less than 5 years or more related work experience.
    Program or project management experience, preferably in the conservation and wildlife crime and enforcement fields
    Familiar with working with NGOs and Government authorities up to and including Ministerial level
    Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing project managing livelihoods programs
    Demonstrated success in influencing and partnering with key stakeholders
    Demonstrated success in development of project proposals, and raising funds for programmatic initiatives within donor and governmental arenas
    Strong technical and analytical skills.
    Strong organization and time management skills.
    Team player and able to work effectively with diverse works groups in a multicultural environment.
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
    Proven ability to multitask and meet priorities.
    Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and under minimal supervision
    Preferred Skills
    Experience in Human-Elephant and/or Human-Wildlife-Conflict mitigation programs
    Experience in the use of GIS software and the creation of site specific maps
    Experience of working across several diverse African countries
    A working knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an advantage
    WORKING CONDITIONS
    Frequent (not less than 40%) local and international travel across difficult terrains within Africa and to CI Headquarters.
    Will need to be able to work in remote locations under difficult conditions.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    The Food Security -IAP M&A Technical Manager will have the following main responsibilities.
    In close consultation with the Food Security IAP partners, develop a framework for the Program M&A system including indicators to be monitored by the regional Hub and all projects
    Provide technical oversight and coordination for component 3.1 and 3.2 to assure relevance, efficiency and quality
    Develop technical training materials and disseminate and maintain them on the Vital Signs website
    Develop linkages to other national and regional web portals to ensure broad regional output
    Conduct training workshops to build capacity of partners and stakeholders
    Identify the M&A focal point for each country project and engage with them on a constant basis
    Lead the recruitment process for all service providers required for the implementation of project related activities, including the development of specific technical terms of reference and preparation of detailed work plans, as well as defining and agreeing on the exact nature and timing of the deliverables with each.
    Contribute to reporting structures as laid out in the IAP documentation and the preparation of the Annual Work Plan and Budget.
    Undertake any other duties, within her/his area of competence, as assigned by CI as it relates to this project
    QUALIFICATIONS
    A higher degree in statistics, quantitative ecology or agroecology, with sound knowledge of monitoring and assessment, including sampling design and statistical analysis.
    A minimum of four years of experience in the fields of monitoring and assessment with demonstrated quantitative skills in trend analysis with proficiency in analysing and interpreting results.
    Proven track record in managing projects; proficiency in report preparation, results monitoring and evaluation.
    Highly organized and strong attention to detail.
    Experience conducting training workshops or teaching at the undergraduate level.
    Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with multicultural, multidisciplinary teams to produce positive results.
    Database and web site management and excellent knowledge of statistical packages, including Programming in R.
    Excellent spoken and written English are required and knowledge in French would be an advantage.
    WORKING CONDITIONS
    Typical office environment but may require working in remote Africa locations.
    Ability to work extended and irregular hours
    Frequent travel over 30% may be necessary.
