    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Grants Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective management of grants and contract-related activities for a program or division. Working closely with external partners and CI staff, s/he provides oversight and management of grant-making activities including planning and application activities, contracting, day-to-day administration, reporting, and close-out.
    The Grants Manager reviews grants applications, proposals, agreements and related grants data and ensures the accuracy of information in the grants system/database. Performs financial monitoring of grant activities, reviews financial reports submitted by partners and generates timely internal and external financial and related reports. The Grants Manager works to minimize risk to CI and reviews grants-related activities for accuracy, completeness and compliance with CI and grantor policies and procedures. S/he provides follow up on any issues identified during the monitoring and review process and assists with training and capacity building efforts.
    The Grants Manager is a key information resource responsible for ensuring effective communications with all key stakeholders. S/he compiles information and responds to requests from partners and program and HQ staff and maintains complete, accurate and up-to-date filing and tracking systems.
    The grants Manager will from time to time support development of budgets for new proposals as well as financial accounting related functions.
    This position does not supervise staff and duties are performed under general supervision.
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Grant Award and Contracts Project Support:
    Develop materials and manage announcements of grants and subcontract opportunities.
    Implement systems and processes for receiving, reviewing and awarding subgrants and contracts.
    Monitor proposals including project approval/rejection and overall project status. Ensure senior staff are informed of deadlines, targets and workflow changes
    Review grantee technical and financial reports and provide related technical oversight. Coordinate site visits/desk reviews as needed.
    Manage legal/HQ review of agreements and ensure all necessary signatures are in place.
    Review and manage contracts amendments and additions.
    Manage grants close-out activities as directed.
    Grants Administration and Monitoring:
    Ensure complete, accurate and timely data and information is maintained in the grants system. Work with system administrators to resolve recording issues and recommend system improvements and efficiencies as needed.
    Process routine financial transactions including check requests.
    Assist in providing timely, accurate and relevant reporting, including budget to actual comparisons and status reports.
    Monitor existing grants for compliance with grant agreements and CI policies and procedures.
    Assist grantees/consultants with routine financial, compliance and system reporting questions. Provide training and support on as directed
    Assist in posting, Review and Validation of financial transactions as requested.
    Serve as a primary contact and manage day-to-day interactions with grantees and program, field, and HQ colleagues.
    Maintain hard copy and electronic agreements and related files.
    Provide other administrative support as directed.
    Drafting of budgets relating to new funding opportunities
    Work closely with potential partners to prepare proposal budgets in alignment with donor guidelines provided in call for proposals

    POSITION SUMMARY
    This is a one-year position, with the possibility of an extension, focused on advancing the Africa Division’s strategic freshwater objectives and those of CI’s broader Freshwater Strategy. The position will report to the Freshwater Lead in the Global Strategy Group and will have a dotted line to the Africa & Madagascar Division’s Senior Vice President.
    There will be three sets of duties. The first will be to work with a subset of Africa place-based teams to design projects to deliver measurable freshwater-related benefits. This may entail adding new components (e.g. hydrologic analyses or monitoring) to existing projects, or it may consist of working with teams to conceptualize new projects, identify and build the necessary partnerships to undertake them, and fundraise for them. A second set of duties will be to lead the development of strategic freshwater activities for the broader Africa division (e.g. around sustainable aquaculture). A third set of duties will be to work with the Freshwater Lead to elevate CI’s profile in the freshwater space (largely but not only in Africa) and to support her in growing the Freshwater Initiative and the projects encompassed within it.
    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Assist a subset of Africa place-based teams to design projects to deliver measurable freshwater-related impacts, ensuring that they are aligned with CI’s institutional priorities and facilitating information-sharing among teams
    Work with the Freshwater Lead and the Africa and Madagascar Division’s Senior Vice President to refine the division’s Africa strategy and fundraise for it, and lead on division-wide elements.
    Work with the Freshwater Lead to elevate the Freshwater Initiative among target audiences within and outside Africa (including through organizing, attending and presenting at events, meetings, etc.)
    Assist the Freshwater Lead in tracking progress of Freshwater Initiative projects and developing communications around them.
    Other duties as assigned.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    This position is based in South Africa or Kenya.
    This job will be performed principally in a normal office environment, with trips to field sites as needed. Average travel per month (both to field sites and to other CI offices) is anticipated to be approximately 1-2 weeks.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    Required
    A successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a freshwater-related field (e.g. hydrology/ecohydrology/hydroinformatics, integrated water resources management, freshwater ecology) and will have at least seven years’ experience or the equivalent applying that expertise

    Reporting to the Senior Vice President for CI’s Africa Field Division, the Country Director ensures compliance with CI policies, funding agreements, and local requirements. Additionally, the employee is responsible for managing the country program and all its component projects, leading the team, raising funds and managing financial and other resources. The employee will also ensure that the program is integrated with CI’s strategic fundraising and partnership goals and works in collaboration with other CI technical and operations units to support the needs of the field programs.
    The Country Director directly manages staff, interdisciplinary teams, and/or outside partners.     People and program management

    Minimum of 10 years experience of progressively responsible experience in strategic planning and programmatic evaluation as well as in information analysis, synthesis, management, monitoring and report development.
    Demonstrated experience in supporting programmatic planning by linking strategic plans and workplans.
    Project management experience, including management of substantial project/program budget.

    About The Position: The Africa Field Division (AfFD) has established offices in five countries (Botswana, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, and South Africa) and working relations with a further 12 countries in Africa – covering a continent with wide ranging economic conditions, a rich natural capital base as well as diverse socio-economic and environmental challenges.

    Key Responsibilities:

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Vital Signs is an integrated Monitoring System that intends to guide policy and decision making and monitor their outcomes to ensure that agricultural development does not unduly degrade natural ecosystems and the services they provide. The monitoring system is currently being implemented in, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya.
    Vital Signs has partnered with the GEF and IFAD to develop a monitoring and assessment platform for the GEF Food Security Integrated Approach Pilot Program. The program has three components: (i) strengthening of institutional frameworks to promote integrated approaches in smallholder agriculture; (ii) promote scaling-up of interventions for sustainability and resilience; and (iii) ensure effective monitoring of ecosystem services and global environmental benefits through application of innovative tools and practices. The program will be implemented in twelve African countries (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Swaziland, Tanzania and Uganda).
    Vital Signs is seeking the services of a Remote Sensing Analyst to support the Monitoring and Assessment component of the program. The Remote Sensing Analyst will compile, analyze, interpret, manage, and distribute remote sensing imagery (MODIS, Landsat, Digital Globe). S/he will play a lead role in ensuring that baseline land cover maps are compiled and that land cover trends are analyzed at project and regional scales.

    Develop baseline land cover maps for all projects that have geo-referenced spatial boundaries at 30m and at very high resolution, where data are available.

    On December 18th 2017, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat approved the project document for implementation of a medium sized project with funding from the newly established Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency(CBIT) .
    The project entitled “Strengthening National Capacity in Kenya to Meet the Transparency Requirements of the Paris Agreement and Supporting the Coordination of National, Regional and Global Transparency-related Activities in Kenya.” will be executed by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MENR) through the Climate Change Directorate(CCD) and System for Land based Emissions Estimations in Kenya(SLEEK), Vital Signs Programme and the Green House Gas Management Institute(GHGMI).
    The main objective of the project is to build capacity of institutions in Kenya to ensure compliance with the Paris Agreement Transparency Requirements. The main project outcomes include:
    Strengthened national institutions in Kenya for transparency-related activities in line with Kenya’s national priorities.
    The System for Land-Based Emission Estimation in Kenya (SLEEK) strengthened and to assist with improvement of transparency over time.
    The coordination between national, regional and global transparency related activities in Kenya enhanced
    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    The project manager will be responsible for the overall management of project activities including acting as secretary of the Project Steering Committee. H/She will coordinate delivery of the project components and all project activities and act as liaison between the project stakeholders including the Climate Change Directorate(CCD), System for Land based Emissions Estimations in Kenya (SLEEK) Secretariat, The Green House Gas Management Institute(GHGMI) and Vital Signs.     QUALIFICATIONS

    A higher degree in Environmental Sciences with sound knowledge in climate change, biodiversity and land degradation and sustainable forest management, as well as demonstrable experience working with the Government of Kenya.
    A minimum of four years of experience in the fields of environmental project implementation, climate change impacts and adaptation, climate change international and national reporting and green gas house emissions.
    Proven track record in managing projects; proficiency in report preparation, work planning, results monitoring and evaluation.
    Highly organized and strong attention to detail.
    Experience conducting training workshops or teaching at the undergraduate level.
    Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with multicultural, multidisciplinary teams to produce positive results.
    Excellent spoken and written English and Swahili.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Typical office environment but may require working from the Climate Change Directorate offices.
    Ability to work extended and irregular hours

    The Manager Africa, provides overall support to the CI-GEF Project Agency for the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of GEF projects in Africa, implemented through the CI-GEF Project Agency. Currently these are being developed for Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Liberia, Madagascar and Rwanda, but additional CBIT projects are expected.     Responsibilities

    CI-GEF Project Development

    Support capacity and risk assessments of executing agencies.
    Provide guidance to the executing agencies during the Project Preparation Grants (PPG), including: organizing PPG kick-off meetings; providing relevant documents; reviewing
    contracts, procurement packages, workplans, budgets, and progress reports.
    Support the review of Project Documents (ProDocs), including review of Environmental and Social Safeguard plans, budgets, and others as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field.

    Key Responsibilities

    General: Annually, the Regional Communications Manager will outline the communications, objectives, priorities and activities for the Africa Field Division (AfFD) internally through the production of the Division’s Communications Plan.
    External communications: This role is responsible for the AfFD’s public relations. This includes identifying opportunities for media outreach, preparing media releases and other content for news and feature articles, working with the press, arranging interviews for CI spokespeople, writing on behalf of CI spokespeople, preparing spokespeople for press conferences, media interviews, and speeches.
    They will also manage CI issued content for websites and social media and various other contributions to CI global activities, including communications with the Africa Advisory Board and contributions to CI’s Annual Report.
    Internal communications: The Regional Communications Manager will coordinate and manage AfFD’s internal communications. S/he will ensure CI staff are aware of key AfFD news and projects. The post holder will identify suitable stories and support the field division’s contributions, providing copywriting and messaging services as needed. This role is directly responsible for the AfFD Info Hub, website, and the production of the AfFD’s quarterly e-newsletter.

    Qualifications

    A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in communications, journalism, and/or promotional activities, in lieu of Bachelor’s degree in communications.

    About The Position
    The Director of National Elephant Action Plans (NEAPs) is responsible for providing strategic oversight and programmatic direction for National Elephant Action Plans across Africa. W orking independently and as part of a small team based in Nairobi and London, and in partnership with government, IGO and NGO partners in Africa and elsewhere, they will play a pivotal role in supporting African governments and partner NGOs to develop, review and implement NEAPs – utilizing the NEAP Standards and Guidelines and assisting with their periodic review process.
    They are responsible for senior-level program management and ensuring that program strategies, initiatives and outcomes advance the Elephant Protection Initiative’s human development and conservation priorities. Duties are diverse, and include designing and implementing program and conservation strategies, project management, technical oversight and monitoring, fundraising and capacity building. The Director of NEAPs ensures compliance with EPI policies, program and funding agreements, and local requirements.
    The EPI Director of NEAPs will be contracted to Stop Ivory, but will fulfil an EPI Secretariat function jointly managed by Stop Ivory and Conservation International. They will report to and be tasked by the EPI Secretariat’s lead representative from both Stop Ivory and Conservation International, who work closely together on all aspects of EPI Implementation.
    Key Responsibilities

    Lead in the development and implementation of specific NEAP’s and NEAP associated projects by provide technical and coordination design
    Represent the EPI externally at key international conferences and other events to share best practices and lessons learned, and serve as a trusted point of contact for EPIEffectively engage stakeholders including donors, government and NGOs, technical colleagues and other partners important to program success.
    Identify opportunities for program growth and development and support the programme’ s financial sustainability by identifying funding opportunities. Regularly partner with EPI Secretariat staff on funding proposals and regional/global fundraising efforts.Organise regional meetings, working groups, and training as required to promote information sharing. Working closely with the Communications Team, build stakeholder understanding and support by helping develop fact sheets, and related materials.Ensure compliance with EPI policies, funding agreements and local requirements.Lead on securing effective input into the NEAP process from the IUCN African Elephant Specialist Group.Perform other related duties as agreed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Advanced degree in biological, environmental or conservation science or related field.
    A proven track record of not less than ten years of developing conservation programmes with Conservation INGO’s/NGOs, preferably in Africa.
    Proven track record of securing and managing large grants, contractual agreements and project budgets
    Proven project management experience for cross-border projects and/or multi-site projects.
    Ability to engage with a variety of audiences from grass roots to high ranking government and/or donors.
    Successful experience in negotiating complex agreements with governments, NGO’S and other key supporters
    Exceptional project management skills.
    Fluency in English, both written and verbal is a must. Working knowledge of French or Portuguese is an added advantage.
