    The regional project is named as the “HIV and Harm Reduction in Eastern Africa Regional Project”, and is being implemented in the following countries; Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania (Mainland), and United Republic of Tanzania (Zanzibar).
    The goal of the overall project is to increase access to essential HIV and harm reduction services for people who inject drugs in Eastern Africa.
    There are three linked overall objectives:

    Creating an enabling environment to conduct harm reduction activities in Eastern Africa;
    Strengthening of community systems for a sustained HIV response among people who inject drugs in eastern Africa; and
    Generating and utilizing strategic information on drug use related interventions in the region.

    Requirements for Expression of Interest
    KANCO is seeking to recruit evaluation expert/s to design and conduct the end-line evaluation as per the ToRs provided.
    The key areas of expertise required are:

    Advanced university degree in social sciences, medicine or public health, with specialized training in evaluation and project/program management;
    At least 5 years of international experience in designing and managing program/project evaluations including in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention and care services for most-at-risk groups (injecting drug users, inmates, sex workers);
    Proven experience in conducting independent evaluations of HIV prevention projects/programmes; experience in evaluating HIV prevention projects targeting IDUs is an asset.
    Familiarity with HIV/AIDS epidemics and substance abuse in the Eastern Africa region;
    Knowledge of the UN guiding principles/recommendations on HIV/AIDS prevention and care among injecting drug users and in prison settings, policies and guidelines;
    Personal skills: good communication, analytical and drafting skills, sensitive to Key populations as well as People Living with HIV;
    Fluency in English and working knowledge of French language is an asset.

    Qualifications

    Atleast 5 years of finance and accounting experience in a similar post in the NGO sector with adequate exposure to project accounting, financial management including budgeting, grants and contracts.
    Understanding of finance records reconciliations.
    Must have demonstrable hands-on experience with an accounting system. Experience

  • Grassroots Coordinator

    Grassroots Coordinator

    S/he will be responsible for the overall implementation and reporting of the project, at the County level.
    The Coordinator will support and provide leadership for grassroots advocacy; manage, train and support citizen advocacy groups and volunteer advocates in engaging with County governments, elected leaders and stakeholders on health advocacy work at the county level.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Implementing all aspects of Grassroots Advocacy Project work at the County Level,
    Analyzing county budgets documents and policies as it related to current advocacy issues at the County level as they affect health, develop and implement campaign plans.
    Coordinating the grassroots citizens and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to take advocacy actions at the County level.
    Establishing advocacy champions in the County Assemblies, the media, Civil Society and communities
    Coordinating Citizen Chapters by providing advocacy training to grassroots groups and advocates on engaging County Government, Media and elected leaders .
    Organizing regular meetings with group leaders and advocates for updates from the County.
    Creating forums for Group Leaders to share and support each other; share innovations, stay abreast of campaign plans and grassroots interests as well as facilitate communications with advocates from other Countries.
    Conducting trainings to the grassroots citizen advocates.
    Developing Media, Campaign and advocacy strategies on various health advocacy issues  in liaison with the issue analyst .
    Conducting outreach to NGOs, Unions and other organizations to encourage more citizen action and to gather intelligence on priority health issues for the County.
    Creating a bank of useful campaign-related stories and volunteer testimonials for use in media outlets.
    Developing best practice for Grass roots advocacy
    Undertake any other duty as assigned  by management  .
    Qualifications
    Degree in a social sciences, Public Health or related field.
    5 years NGO working experience in advocacy related program.
    Proven capacity to create and deliver on effective and successful advocacy projects.
    Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, and capacity to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including decision makers, volunteers, media and NGO partners
    Knowledge of health programs.
    Experience in the political, citizen engagement, and legislative processes in the counties.
    Good organizational skills, outgoing and enjoys working, mentoring and motivating others.
    Experience implementing multi-faceted projects involving media engagement, policy and advocacy and engaging elected leaders.

    The Technical Director Finance and Administration- Nairobi will report to the Deputy Executive Director. He/she will be responsible of overseeing all financial and administrative aspects of KANCO including managing financial systems, generating financial reports, monitoring project expenses, administering sub-awards, assuring grant management compliance, facilitating audits and managing finance issues.

    Providing guidance to the executive director regarding the organizational financial planning, budgeting ,cash flow and policy matters
    Preparing KANCO project and annual budgets and work plan, track expenses, ensure that required financial controls and cost-performance monitoring mechanisms are in place and adhered to, and ensure proper safeguards of funds.
