    Job Summary

    Main Responsibilities

    Implement Jacaranda Health (JH)’s medium and long-term digital strategy and in order to drive rapid technological innovation and ensure automation of processes in line with the overall organizational strategy
    Maintain and update the organization’s data warehouse and data model.
    Enforce adherence to the team’s monthly budgets
    Design, control, and manage the technical process and operational integrity of technological services provided by the team
    Implement work plans to ensure effective implementation of the department’s strategic objectives and ensure technology operations are coordinated and completed within set deadlines and budgets
    Guide implementation and maintenance of the organization’s technology infrastructure including the analytics infrastructure, systems, databases, dashboards, and visualizations to ensure their respective functionalities are robust, effective, cost-efficient, and stable in order to promote service delivery while working closely with the Data & Analytics and Program teams
    Execute the transformation of the organization’s technical infrastructure to be modular, robust, and deployable to other countries and contexts according to guidance from the Senior Technology Manager
    Guide improvement of existing tools and processes in keeping with growing organizational needs and user feedback in order to ensure the organization remains on the cutting edge of technology.
    Operationalize the organization’s technology research and development to promote constant innovation, drive cost reductions, and increased efficiency through automation, and enforce a culture of constantly trying new things and looking for ways to do existing things better
    Define the engineering culture by working with engineers and other stakeholders to set engineering standards and best practices for the organization.
    Execute on the design, deployment, and monitoring of projects eg Blood Tracker to ensure innovations meet the JH’s technology advancement appetite and value for money
    Enforce team SLAs and SOPs for development and issue response
    Manage the development and implementation of appropriate data protection policies and procedures in line with the 2019 Data Protection Act to ensure compliance with relevant regulations
    Execute the transformation of the organization’s technical infrastructure to be modular, robust, and deployable to other countries and contexts
    Collaborate with management, team leads, and team members to design and implement new processes, resolve issues, and ensure solutions are viable and consistent.
    Act as the interface between the Technology team and the rest of the organization in regards to implementation, updates, and maintenance of all technology-related initiatives
    Guide, develop and motivate the Technology team, including upskilling, training on the best practices in line with current trends, and oversee performance evaluations to promote growth and staff motivation in line with JH’s people agenda
    Oversee performance evaluations to promote growth and motivation of direct reports in line with JH’s people agenda

    Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Statistics, Applied Math, or any other related field
    Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with 2 years at a managerial level
    Working in a fast-paced and agile environment

    Job purpose
    The purpose of this position will be to establish and maintain relationships with the County Ministry of Health with a focus on county health executive leadership and the county health management teams.     Duties and responsibilities
    Strengthen Jacaranda Health County Engagement

    Establish and maintain working relationships with County Health Management Teams (CHMT) ensuring that JH remains a priority partner to the county leadership
    Engage and maintain close relationships with county executive leadership to facilitate county support on policy and budget issues
    Maintain close contact with the CHMTs and keep abreast with county maternal health priorities and needs and communicate back to internal stakeholders 
    Conduct county level annual needs assessment to identify priority areas of interventions for Jacaranda Health
    Maintain effective and regular communication with the county leadership ensuring that county requests are prioritized and addressed comprehensively
    Lead and facilitate JH engagement with the counties ensuring that counties commit to cost share in the implementation of JH programs

    Increase Jacaranda Health Visibility at the county level

    Identify and present JH at county health platforms relating to maternal and newborn health issues and position JH as the maternal health lead partner
    Collaborate with counties/CHMT and convene JH specific progress review meetings to ensure that the county leadership is kept up to date with program progress and impact of program interventions
    Put measures in place to ensure that JH regularly reports (Monthly, quarterly, and biannually) to the county on the progress of program implementation and that the proposed action points in the reports are actioned by the county and JH 
    Attend and present JH in county level meetings such as TWGs, AWP planning meetings and stakeholder forums
    Identify county innovative communication channels through which JH progress, impact and support can be communicated.

    Provide Program Support 

    Lead the initial engagement with new counties, establish county buy in, entry meetings and agreement between counties and JH
    Provide linkage between JH programs at the county level and the CHMT and the county health executive leadership
    Provide guidance to the programs teams in adapting and implementing JH programs to respond to specific county priorities and county requests
    Identify and address county leadership challenges to ensure that there is seamless implementation of Jacaranda Health programs in counties.
    Engage with CHMT to plan for joint supportive supervision visits ensuring that the implementation of JH solutions is as per county quality standards 
    Identify potential risks to JH and its programs because of JH partnership with counties and propose risk mitigation strategies
    Identify potential private partners JH can partner with in specific counties to drive cost-share and reduce on duplication of efforts

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Health-related field, Business Administration, Public Relations, or any other related fields
    A master’s degree or professional certification in relevant field will be an added advantage

    Relevant Experience

    A minimum of 9 years’ experience in implementing county level programs
    Experience in implementing public sector programs and working closely with health management teams
    Experience in establishing and maintaining partnerships with county health officials

    Minimum Qualifications   

    Hold a diploma or degree in nursing from a recognized university/ (medical training) college. 
    Position holder should have at least 5 years’ experience in Maternity or MCH/FP working as a licensed Nurse/Midwife in a busy maternity institution and experience in working in a start-up maternity facility.
    Hold an active Nursing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.   
    Neonatal/Paediatric or reproductive health nursing is an added advantage.

    What You Will Do

    Monitoring and providing appropriate medical and surgical care to patients;
    Managing of clients for reproductive health both in the inpatient and outpatient;
    Admitting patients requiring special care followed by investigations and treatment;
    Examining and talking to patients to diagnose their medical conditions;
    Carrying out specific procedures, e.g. performing operations and specialist investigations;
    Making notes and preparing paperwork, both as a legal record of treatment and for the benefit of other healthcare professionals;
    Medical care will conform to best practice and meet contract target and service specifications;
    The referring doctor will be kept informed of inpatient and outpatient progress.
    A preliminary discharge summary will be issued to each patient prior to them leaving hospital, in accordance with service specifications;
    Coordinate and discuss planned care with the patient and other team professionals as appropriate;
    Coordinating and managing emergency patients in the inpatient and outpatient and ensuring client referral is effective;
    Take an active role in health promotion and disease prevention;
    Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with all staff and patients and ensure clients have a good customer experience at Jacaranda Maternity;
    Ensure that patients are kept fully informed of and understand all procedures and treatments to be undertaken. Informed Consent will be obtained from patients in accordance with Jacaranda policy;
    Provide advice to patients regarding healthy lifestyles and specific measures that may help the patient avoid a recurrence of ill health;
    Maintain patient rights, and be aware of cultural differences when dealing with patients.
    Should you receive or become aware of complaints relating to the standard of care and/or the treatment of patients, or professional attitudes toward staff, these shall be referred to the Chief Executive Officer and discussed with the Senior Management Team;
    Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment;
    A maximum of 20 min response time for emergencies on scheduled shifts.

    Quality Assurance

    Develop, implement and maintain a Quality Assurance Programme for the Medical Service. Assistance may be available from a Quality Improvement Lead;
    This programme and the Audit associated with it may need to be coordinated with other programs of other Health and Hospital Services;
    The quality assurance system must incorporate review mechanisms of patient care; allow regular review of patient deaths and of critical incidents that occur.
    Review will be based on recognized standards of practice for medical services;

    Develop standards, protocols and procedures;

    Ensure that comprehensive hospital medical records for all in and outpatients are accurately maintained;
    Selected medical records, patient case notes, and discharge letters will be evaluated at peer review;
    Each referring doctor will receive documentation of the progress and treatment of the patient;
    Liaise on behalf of any patient or the organization with outside agencies, (e.g. Insurance companies etc.) where this is warranted;
    Provide educational and clinical experience for clinical staff;
    Instruct, guide and supervise the work of Clinical Officers (both General and Specialized), Registrars, Medical Officers, Sonographers and Pharmacists.

    Business and People Management

    Attend standing management meetings and represent the company externally as required;
    Contribute to overall business strategy development and implementation;
    Schedule and maintain Doctors schedules;
    Provide mentorship and manage performance of assigned staff;
    Will be required to report on-call (off shifts, weekends and holidays) as scheduled;
    Endeavour to suggest new initiatives to aid the efficient provision of Medical Services.

    As a major user of finite and limited resources will have a responsibility together with colleagues and other health professionals to use these efficiently and effectively in the day to day management of the Medical Service;
    Must endeavor to provide medical services within budget, you will consult with the Chief Executive Officer and the Senior Management team regularly, as to the use of medical, nursing and/or hospital resources;
    Provide reports and contribute to the planning, budgeting and development of the medical service.

    Personal Education and Research

    Continue to keep abreast with trends, developments and the appropriate utilization of technology in the field of medical care on a regular and ongoing basis;
    Participate in available educational sessions on topics such as clinical budgeting, medical audit, performance appraisal and quality control;
    Will participate in journal review with clinical staff;
    Assures clinical practice is current by availing themselves of opportunities to attend relevant educational programme and report back to colleagues on any programme attended;
    Study medical literature and other resource material on a regular basis;
    Record evidence of their own educational and developmental initiatives. This will form an integral part of the annual performance review;
    Attendance at local post-graduate meetings/Continuous Medical education programmes as expected.

    Education

    MMed in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from a recognized institution.
    Specialist Recognition by the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Board.
    Registered, licenced and retained by the Kenya Medical Practitioners Board.

    Experience

    At least 5 years’ post graduate working experience in a busy maternity facility.
