  • Program Manager

    As a key member of the Co-Impact team, you will play a crucial role in executing functions related to program management, conducting data analysis and impact assessments of program partners initiatives, assisting with the engagement and relationship-building efforts with both prospective and current funding partners. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited, to: 

    Program Management: Sourcing and Supporting PPs (30%) 

    Perform additional duties as assigned by the AD. 
    Contribute to fostering a positive work culture by upholding Co-Impact’s values, staying outcomes-focused, and being program partner- and community-centered, while embracing diversity and building trusting partnerships. 
    Support account leads across various grants, acting as the primary point of contact for critical cross-cutting issues ensuring seamless coordination and take a lead role for select PPs based on assessments by RD or AD. 
    Support PPs during implementation, including on learning, measurement and evaluation of systems change strategies. 
    Assisting with the management of the full grant lifecycle, including identifying funding opportunities, developing RFPs, coordinating the application process, conducting due diligence, write recommendation memos and overseeing disbursements. 
    Support the Africa Team to identify, source, and vet potential program partners (PPs) across Africa, ensuring alignment with Co-Impact’s mission and goals for systemic change. 

    Tracking Impact: Data Analysis, Gathering Evidence and Lessons Learned (40%) . In collaboration with the Learning, Measurement an Evaluation (LME) and Philanthropic Collaboration Teams:

    Support to track and monitor impact by reviewing progress reports, conducting site visits, and supporting the implementation of learning, measurement, and evaluation (LME) frameworks.
    Support analysis of data and synthesis of partner reports, highlighting key impacts, challenges, and lessons learned, and provide actionable recommendations. 
    Input into the preparation and presentation of detailed reports and updates for both internal teams and external funders, providing program progress and impact. 
    Support the extraction of lessons learned from grantee work, documenting successes, challenges, and best practices to inform future grantmaking and program improvements. 
    Facilitate the use of evidence-based insights to shape strategic recommendations for funders, stakeholders, and program development. 
    Assist PPs in refining systems for tracking results and making data-driven decisions to foster continuous improvement. 
    Enhance and promote cross-learning among PPs to enhance shared knowledge and collaborative impact.

    Communication and Stakeholders Engagement and Management to Mobilize Funding for System Change (30%). In collaboration with the Communications and Philanthropic Collaboration Teams: 

    Help to package and communicate impact stories from program partners (PPs) in compelling formats tailored to diverse audiences, including funders, board members, staff, and the public. 
    In alignment with the Co-Impact LME framework and approach, assist to develop reports, presentations, and dashboards that clearly showcase partners’ progress, impact, and lessons learned. 
    Collaborate on creation of dynamic content (e.g., newsletters, blogs, social media posts) to keep key stakeholders updated on partners’ impact, challenges, and successes in system change. 
    Support in cultivating and maintaining relationships with both prospective and current funders, ensuring funders are kept informed about the impact of partners’ system change initiatives and responding to queries related to the portfolio and its impact. 
    Support organization and coordination of funder site visits and learning journeys. 
    Facilitate effective communication with PPs to share their achievements and impact with funders and key stakeholders. 
    Assist in preparation and presentation of findings and insights at meetings, conferences, and webinars, representing Co-Impact and demonstrating the impact of PPs’ work. 

    Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

    At least a Master’s degree (e.g., International Development, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Business Administration) or equivalent experience. 
    Over 10 years of experience advancing gender equality with an intersectional approach, and strengthening government or market systems in education, health, economic opportunity, and women’s leadership. 
    Extensive experience in impact assessment, monitoring and evaluation, and using data to extract actionable insights for decision-making. 
    Proficient in learning, measurement and evaluation (LME) frameworks, with the ability to assess the impact of complex, multi-year initiatives. 
    Fundraising experience and/or knowledge of the funding context in the region. 
    Proven ability to craft compelling narratives and reports tailored to diverse audiences, including funders, board members, staff, and the public. 
    Demonstrated success in building and nurturing relationships with funders, communicating program impact, and securing ongoing support. 
    Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to build partnerships with grantees, funders, government, and civil society organizations. 
    Experience in grantmaking, fundraising, and a strong knowledge of the African context; connections to feminist and women’s rights networks are preferred. 
    Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiar with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). 
    Fluency in English is required, with proficiency in French considered a plus.

    The Role

    Core responsibilities will include:

    Strategy Development and Implementation : Programs Partners

    Supporting the Regional Director- Africa (RD) in the development of the strategy and annual program plans.
    Serve as a close thought partner to the Regional Director- Africa for ideating and executing priority specific strategy and plans (eg Women in Leadership (WIL), unpaid care etc).
    Drive the execution and adoption of the annual Program Partner (PP) support plans, including ensuring that the Program Assistant is updating the tracking sheets, and Account Leads(AL) are documenting Program Partner calls. Track progress and deviations at a portfolio level via regular check-ins with Program Manager (PM) and Program Assistant (PA).
    Work closely with the Regional Director-Africa to develop the sourcing strategy and approach document for the region.
    Identifying and meeting with potential pipeline organisations and assessing their fit for Co-Impact. Sharing these insights and plans with the Regional Director-Africa.
    Play a lead role in ensuring that the pipeline PPs are identified and green lighted by the Regional Director-Africa and leadership to ensure movement through the sourcing process is done in a seamless manner. This includes quality assuring and preparing recommendation memos when needed, guiding and supporting the Program Manager with the due diligence processes and overseeing the Program Manager (PM for coordination with the PM ops and grants).
    Serve as account lead for a select number of grants – independently supporting the PPs reach their goals towards just and inclusive systems change, taking independent decisions and managing the grants.
    Identify trends, problem areas and other insights (around PP support and sourcing of new ideas) and share with the Regional Director-Africa on a regular basis to adapt plans accordingly.
    Link up with the account leads and the Learning Monitoring and Evaluation (LME) team to: provide LME support to PPs to achieve outcomes, source research partnerships in the region aligned with Co-impact’s philosophy and goals.
    Support the Regional Director-Africa and the LME team to draw out cross-cutting themes and lessons and their dissemination and in measuring and tracking our impact at a meta level through the work of our PPs.

    Team Coordination and Representation

    Serve as a liaison and coordinator with other Co-impact functional teams to ensure flow and exchange of information and decision making for the region as needed and based on consultation with the Regional Director -Africa.
    Represent Co-impact and the Regional Director-Africa in important external meetings and convenings including building relations with regional funders in consultation with the Regional Director- Africa.
    Support the team (Program Assistant and Program Managers) in their growth and development.

    Qualifications:

    12 plus years professional experience and extensive knowledge of advancing gender equality (with an intersectional lens) and at least one of our areas of sectoral focus (education, health, and economic opportunity).
    Experience being an outcomes-focused and program partner grantee-centered grantmaker, having supported civil society efforts in the Global South would be a real asset, though context dependent working with government, NGOs, grantmaking, social sector etc.
    A master’ degree or equivalent in a relevant area.
    At least 5 years of experience managing a team and mentoring staff to deliver strong results within a positive work culture
    Prior exposure to an array of different working contexts, stakeholders, etc.

    The Role

    Work with the Director of LME to develop, hone, and apply adaptive learning, evaluation, and feedback practices and culture within Co-Impact
    Together with account leads, support existing and new program and research partners (primarily on LME) through check-ins, strategic or operational support, and other portfolio capacity building activities. Depending on level of experience and capacity, you may become the primary account lead for specific partners. 
    Be responsible for overall program management for the LME team, including development and maintenance of annual workplan; tracking program partner engagement and key milestones; calendar management for partner calls, taking clear notes, and managing follow up; keeping LME documentation well organized; drafting internal and external communications, and other program and project-management related core tasks
    Manage the collation and synthesis of partner reports and dashboards for Co-Impact’s purposes, including regular reporting.

    Qualifications and Experience

    At least 7+ years of relevant professional experience working to advance learning, measurement, evaluation and applied research in social justice organizations or programs. Understanding of system-change approaches to LME is highly desired. Specific focus on education, health, economic opportunity, and gender equality is welcome.
    Experience with supporting practical application of LME approaches and tools with a range of actors, e.g., government, civil society, private sector, funders, etc.
    Significant experience working directly with senior-level staff
    Track record of increasing responsibility

    Qualifications and Experience

    Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience.
    Excellent computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office and other software tools (e.g., project management software, database software, contact management systems, contract and grants management software) for managing a range of business process.
    Excellent listening and communication skills with sensitivity to cultural communication differences.
    High level of self-motivation and at ease working autonomously when necessary.
    Proactively identifies opportunities to streamline, improve and innovate effective business processes and systems.
    Attentive to detail and ability to reliably stay on top of a range of tasks and projects.
    Professional and diplomatic manner and disposition in interacting with program partners, donors, external partners and senior management, co-workers, and the general public; shows discretion in handling confidential material.
    Fluency in English required; fluency in a second or more languages strongly desired.
