The consultancy will be based on thorough and in-depth desk review of existing published and grey literature and will focus on Sub-Sahara Africa.
    Job Objective

    Conduct thorough and in-depth review literature on ICT for development platforms in Africa.
    Assess how the design of ICT platforms are likely to affect women, men and the youth.
    Synthesize and document evidence from literature, how and why the deployment ICT for development platforms in agriculture could affect men, women and youth differently.
    Submit a working paper with the findings. 

    Deliverables  

    A list of references on the gray and published literature on ICT for development platforms in Africa.
    Draft working paper detailing the study findings.
    Final revised working paper.

    Requirements

    PhD in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or Development Economics or related field.
    At least 10 years; experience working with CGIAR or advanced research organizations in similar roles
    Demonstrated understanding of the workings of rural farm households and experience in applied economics, farm management and/or rural development, gender analysis in agriculture.

    The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Research Technician I to provide support to CIP’s regional germplasm management activities conducted in collaboration with the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS).
    The Position
    The Research Technician I will be based at KEPHIS Plant Quarantine and Biosecurity Station, Muguga, Nairobi, Kenya and will provide operative support in the lab, screenhouse and management of the germplasm acquisition database and ordering platform. This position will report to the Research Assistant.
    Key Responsibilities:
    Support Tissue Culture Lab Operations

            Cleaning and sterilization of laboratory and laboratory apparatus.
            Preparation of plant growth medium (MS).
            Initiation of Ipomoea batatas explants into growth medium.
            Subculture and multiplication of in vitro Ipomoea batatas.
            Culture maintenance of in vitro Ipomoea batatas in the growth rooms.
            Meristem-tip culture of infected Ipomoea batatas following virus screening.
            Multiplication of received clones and preparing them for distribution.

    Conduct Greenhouse Maintenance and Multiplications of materials

            Hardening sweet potato plantlets from the tissue culture lab.
            Rapid multiplication of disease-free varieties in the screen house.
            Green house maintenance including cleaning, weeding, watering, spraying, disinfecting, inspecting greenhouse integrity and monitoring for disease.
            Developing effective fertilizer and herbicide programs.
            Identifying infected plants and preventing transmission.

    Support on ICT Activities 

            Digitizing the physical records of all the sweet potato germplasm at Muguga Station.
            Integrating the germplasm details, including passport data, from various databases and catalogues for importation into the new database.
            Preparing and printing of the new field and lab labels with the updated data.
            Testing and backend management of the new germplasm ordering platform.
            Preparing orders made on the germplasm ordering platform.
            Basic maintenance of office computer hardware and software.

    Requirements
    Selection Criteria 

    Technical studies in laboratory. Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology is a plus
    At least 1 year of experience required in similar position
    Knowledge of tissue culture and greenhouse production of sweetpotato
    Knowledge of data collection and content creation
    Fluent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili
    Strong teamwork skills

    The Position: The Logistics Analyst will be based at the CIP Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya and will be responsible to support the Regional office in offering effective and efficient procurement and logistics services.
    Key Responsibilities:

    Identify new suppliers and derivative products by constant market follow up, call for bids and acquire the best suppliers that will guarantee an optimum supply chain;

    Identify and implement alternatives for purchase sources, to minimize costs and time;

    Receive and review procurement requests and initiate procurement procedures for goods and services in a transparent and cost-effective manner;

    Process and issue purchase orders through the OCS (One Corporate System) for approved requisitions in coordination with the program staff to ensure the efficient and faster processing of requisitions;

    Organize and monitor acquisitions, following standard processes and track product flow from origin to final delivery;

    Create and maintain contact with internal customers, in-order-to assist them with technical queries/ requests, agreed standards and deadlines;

    Process documentation for execution of logistics operations, taking appropriate actions to resolve operational issues in coordination with the Logistics Officer;

    Gather and prepare all purchase documents for Donor or Internal Audits;

    Assist the Logistics Officer in preparing Bidding Templates for Purchases of goods, services and consultancies;

    Maintain regular contact with contracted suppliers to monitor adherence to delivery period according to the terms of procurement agreement;

    Prepare reports on Purchases statistics (supply chain management, strategic sourcing or distribution) for decision making;

    Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, International Business or related disciplines;

    At least two years of experience required in similar position;

    Knowledge of suppliers in Agricultural Research activities highly desirable;

    Proficient on MS Excel, Word and Power Point at user level;

    Knowledge of ERP software’s and administration of products and suppliers master files; previous experience of Agresso software will be an added advantage

    Knowledge of EU, USAID, BMGF and AFDB procurement conditions a plus;

    Working experience in NGOS is a plus;

    The position: This position will be responsible to provide the right IT infrastructure solutions in order to meet our business requirements, build stable IT environment and establish a good IT network to support the growth in Africa Region. This position requires a demonstrated ability to manage a diverse portfolio of requests, quickly mediate between competing priorities, and interact with the global IT team, contractors and business management while maintaining a regional perspective and an ability to work with IT department at CIP headquarters in Lima, Peru. The position requires a strong self-starter who can deliver consistently at a tactical level. Also, the person selected needs strong team interaction and business partnerships as well as administrative skills. This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and will report to the IT Global Head.
     
    Key responsibilities:

    Responsible for supporting new IT initiatives implementation for regional offices in Africa and Asia.
    Provide IT support through CIP standard ticketing system and provide 1st and certain 2nd level support to regional users and escalate to internal and external providers.
    Ensure standardization and commonality for the IT hardware and software base, infrastructure across all sites in the regions, in alignment with CIP IT policies and standards.
    Monitor and evaluate local IT vendors’ service performance and provide input to global IT on common vendors performance in the regions.

    Selection Criteria:

    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, System Engineer, MIS or comparable field.
    At least 5 years of work experience in similar positions providing Windows user application and endpoint management support including escalation to specialized teams and suppliers and Azure infrastructure.
    Good understanding of network communication, telephone systems, and IT security.
    Good IT infrastructure implementation and upgrade project experience.
    ITIL Foundations, Project management and/or Information security studies and certifications are desirable.
    Experience providing Microsoft Intune, Mac support and SharePoint content creation desirable.
    Advanced speech and writing English language skills.

    International Potato Centre (CIP) is implementing the Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) Compact, financed through a grant from the African Development Bank toward the cost of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) Program and intends to apply part of the proceeds for this grant to facilitate payment for a consultant- Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) Technology Transfer Officer.

    The Consultant is expected to work with the Sweetpotato Program Coordinator, TAAT project coordinator and implementing country teams to coordinate and support the development of TAAT technologies adoption work plans in each country. He/she will assist in the identification of business partners in each country in which TAAT will be implemented and provide expertise necessary for successful implementation of value chain compact activities, in close collaboration with country value chain implementation teams.

    Requirements

    The desired consultant should possess a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Business Administration, Food Technology, Supply Chain Management, or a closely related field to the value chain with a minimum of 5-6 years of professional work experience, with at least 1 year of experience in value chain development or products development, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa.

    Relevant work experience in agribusiness management, agroprocessing, supply chain management (experience with projects that link farmers to the market will be an added advantage.
