    Duties and Responsibilities

    Lead the process of obtaining ethical approval for research projects
    Develop study tools, training manuals and field guides to use for data collection
    Coordinate the recruitment, training and supervision of field teams
    Coordinate field work and be responsible for data quality
    Mobilize and sensitize key stakeholders about research projects
    Participate in the data analysis, scientific writing and research proposals development
    Prepare regular field and project reports
    Participate in dissemination of research findings and policy dialogue with relevant audiences
    Take lead in preparing progress and end-of-grant reports to donors
    Support development of funding proposals
    Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

    Skills and Qualifications

    Masters in any of the following areas: Public Health, Epidemiology, Sociology, Biological Sciences, Applied Statistics, Development Studies or related disciplines
    At least two years’ post-Masters qualification experience, preferably in a research setting
    Good computer literacy and knowledge of multiple statistical and/or qualitative software packages such as STATA, SPSS, NVivo or ATLAS.ti
    Experience conducting field research and managing data collection teams
    Excellent oral and written communication in English and Kiswahili
    Ability to work independently, set priorities, juggle tasks and meet tight deadlines
    Publication record in peer-reviewed journals

    Key Responsibilities:

    Lead in setting direction and coordinating activities to set up a health systems training hub for health workers and practitioners working in FCAS
    Undertake a scoping exercise to identify players and actors and learning needs
    Conduct desk review of existing programs and interventions (e.g. via systematic review) to identify gaps and opportunities in the existing body of evidence that could inform establishment of program of work on HSS in the unique FCAS context
    Collect primary data from development partners, NGOs, program implementers and communities on key elements of a responsive health system in fragile context
    Lead the development of tools and methodologies for training the community of practitioners and for collecting various forms of data
    Contribute to institutional publications (i.e. lay dissemination materials such as policy/research briefs and fact sheets)
    Represent the Center at high – level national, regional and international forums, including relevant technical working groups and expert committees.
    Required Qualifications & Experience:
    PhD in social, health or behavioral sciences, including demography, biostatistics, epidemiology, public health , or other related discipline (PhD in International/Global Health is preferred)
    Demonstrated experience and knowledge of health systems strengthening, with knowledge of health system in Africa
    Demonstrated experience with refugee and humanitarian assistance; health systems management and health sector reforms; equity and fairness in distribution of health services; or health policy and resource allocation
    Excellent scientific writing skills (journal articles, technical reports) and good quantitative or qualitative skills (experience with mixed methods will be an advantage provided one is very strong in quantitative or qualitative methods)
    Experience in managing relationships across large, international organizations

    Have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, with a minimum grade of C+.
    Experience working in Informal settings. Experience working in the Nairobi Urban Health Demographic Surveillance system (NUHDSS) is an added advantage.
    Resident of Korogocho and Viwandani will be an added advantage.
    Have proven experience in research work (quantitative and/or qualitative data collection, and report writing). Possessing both skills is an added advantage

    The Software Developer will be part of a team of software developers responsible for creating applications for data collection, entry and management as well as other applications for the various research units alongside providing innovative solutions to various research problems. This team creates desktop apps, web-enabled platforms as well as cloud based solutions using the latest technologies and frameworks, combined with traditional Microsoft technology. The team will follow agile principles and use DevOps tools to move ideas to production quickly. Candidate must be an innovative self-starter as well as a team player.
    Key Responsibilities

    Prepare and document program requirements, specifications and data dictionaries for various databases
    Consistently create and maintain software programs and applications according to specifications
    Assist in the development and maintenance of user manuals and guidelines
    Train Field Interviewer(s) or Data Entry staff in the use of data collection applications
    Design and implement data quality algorithms to check data quality and to monitor data in the early stages of data collection
    Liaise with Data Analysts and other Software Developers to resolve problems with software products or data issues
    Write views to retrieve data for analysis and conversion of the data to format required by researchers
    Design software programs to generate double entry reports and other quality checks, where necessary
