    Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Coordinator

    Technical Support

    Lead on providing technical guidance to all DRR programmes implemented by the Africa National Societies to ensure effective implementation of activities and compliance with project objectives prioritised according to existing capacities and gaps.
    Provide technical input for the design, development and implementation of IFRC’s current and future Disaster Risk Reduction and Early recovery initiatives alongside IFRC Country and Cluster Delegations and African National Societies as part of expanding IFRC’s DRR Portfolio, particularly on longer term and more sustainable adaption actions.

    Strategic Guidance

    Supporting IFRC Country Cluster Delegations and Africa National Societies in embedding and inclusion of Disaster Risk Reduction approaches, principles, practices and thinking within strategic and programme planning before, during and after disasters.
    Provide strong leadership on the preparation of IFRC plans pertaining to Disaster Risk Reduction in the Region including the preparation of annual regional activity plans.
    Ensure that IFRC’s work on DRR is well connected to the African Governments and Regional Bodies longer term development goals.

    Coordination and representation

    Engage with other thematic leads within the IFRC Africa Regional Office to ensure a holistic, gender sensitive, people centred DRR programming.
    As a focal point for the DRR and CCA Community of Practice, provide strategic and secretariat support to the CoP to facilitate collective action and advocacy on DRR and CCA.
    Lead and facilitate RCRC Regional DRR Coordination Platforms to support peer to peer exchanges, experience sharing, strategic thinking and planning including development of DRR Champions.
    Engage with RCRC Partner National Societies in Africa working in the DRR Portfolio to facilitate peer to peer exchanges, partnership for impact and as part of expanding IFRC’s DRR Portfolio, particularly on longer term and more sustainable adaption actions.
    Lead the coordination & cooperation with German Red Cross (and other Partner National Societies) for a well-coordinated movement approach in the region on Disaster Risk Reduction and related topics.
    Lead on joint capacity building initiatives in line with the coordinated approach with all Movement Partners.
    Engage with relevant reference centres like Climate Centre, Global Preparedness Disaster Centre to support with development and implementation of holistic DRR programming in Africa.
    Lead IFRC’s interaction with external partners ranging from Donor Governments, Regional and International Organizations such as UN Bodies, African Union and Regional Economic Commissions involved in Disaster Risk Reduction programmes in Africa.
    Lead the Representation of the IFRC in key DRR Dialogues and platforms (within and beyond the RCRC) in the Region and Globally including but not limited to the Africa Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (APDRR), Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR), Africa Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction (AWGDRR) to showcase the impact of the Movement and to connect to African Governments and Regional Bodies longer term development goals.

    Partnerships and Resource Mobilization

    Spearhead the overall effort of the IFRC Africa Office to build partnerships as part of expanding IFRC’s DRR Portfolio, particularly on longer term and more sustainable adaption actions.
    Working closely with the Partnership and Resource Development Unit, mobilize an appropriate and sustainable funding base to support the IFRC Africa Disaster Risk Reduction Plans within the framework of the IFRC Strategic Plan 2030, Movement ambitions for climate action, Global Climate Resilience Program and Agenda for Renewal.

    Communication & Reporting

    Ensure quality and timely reporting on DRR Programs and initiatives in IFRC Country and Cluster Delegations.
    Lead the Quarterly, Semi-annual and annual plans reporting against the IFRC Africa DRR annual plans.
    Develop innovative approaches and strategies for stimulating effective knowledge sharing partnerships for DRR work ongoing in Africa through the DRR and CCA Community of Practice.
    Lead in the documentation and development of a repository of DRR best practices in Africa for humanitarian Diplomacy within and beyond the RCRC.

    Required Competencies & Skills:

    Education:

    Relevant post-graduate university degree in Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Risk Management, Meteorology or equivalent studies
    Basic Delegates Training Course (BTC), WORC, IMPACT or equivalent knowledge

    Experience:

    8 years’ international experience in the humanitarian sector at the technical level related to disaster risk reduction programming
    Experience working for a humanitarian or development organization in the Africa region
    Good understanding of the IFRC policies, system, and procedures
    Experience in coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including authorities and other humanitarian actors
    Experience managing projects including programmatic and financial aspects.

    The purpose of the Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant role is to measure the outputs, outcomes and impact of RefuSHE’s holistic model and support in enhancing organizational M&E systems, contributing to evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement. This is a fixed term contract for a period of 5 months 1 week starting from 1st November 2024.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    In collaboration with the program team, develop data collection tools for RefuSHE’s holistic programming.
    Assist in the collection of quantitative and qualitative data through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions.
    Ensure accurate and timely entry of data into the organization’s monitoring and evaluation system.
    Analyze quantitative and qualitative data from programs and synthesize findings into well-written English for internal and external reports and presentations.
    Lead the onboarding of new staff members to RefuSHE’s M&E software, ActivityInfo; stay apprised of newly developed software features; and provide ongoing training to staff on ActivityInfo’s functionality.
    Participate in training sessions and workshops related to monitoring and evaluation best practices.
    Track the progress of outputs and outcomes against targets, and flag to the Program Leads in advance potential risks of not achieving intended program outcomes and targets.
    Lead the updating of RefuSHE’s M&E plan.
    Support in the reporting of program data and progress against indicators for all donor reports.
    Support the development of program and proposal M&E plans, including SMART indicators, baselines, and achievable and ambitious targets.
    Facilitate greater understanding of M&E among program team staff by providing troubleshooting and advice as questions, challenges, and new needs emerge.
    Ensure all data collection activities are conducted through a trauma-informed lens and are sensitive to the diverse backgrounds and unique experiences of the refugee young women and girls participating in RefuSHE programs.
    Ensure the utmost confidentiality and security of data collected and that data collection, storage, and reporting activities are compliant with Kenya’s Data Protection Act and RefuSHE’s status as a registered Data Controller.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor’s Degree in monitoring and evaluation, development studies, economics, or other related studies from a recognized institution.
    Excellent command of English and Kiswahili, both spoken and written.

    RELATED EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATION

    1 – 2 years’ experience in supporting M&E work in a not for profit making organization.

    Responsibilities

    Qualifications

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Facilitate quarterly household dialogues to transfer skills and knowledge that HHs will utilize to sustain positive behaviors and practices for nutrition resilience even after graduation.
    Facilitate growth of allocated businesses (Business groups) to profitability by conducting monthly business coaching and mentorship transferring relevant business and entrepreneurship skills including numeracy and literacy skills as enshrined in the business mentorship guide.
    Conduct 100% coaching, mentorship, training and monitoring of allocated business groups and savings groups on monthly basis.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    At least a Diploma in community health and nutrition, public health, community development, social work, or another related discipline.
    At least two years’ experience in similar work; with proven experience in data collection
    Possess excellent interpersonal skills; candidates should be able to relate well to both the women with whom we work.
    Have basic experience in mobile data collection, Microsoft office, self-driven, and able to work with minimum supervision
    MUST be a resident where of respective ward or village in which R4N interventions will be implemented.

    Qualifications/special skills

    A first level university degree in environmental sciences, international development or other relevant political or social sciences area is required and an advanced degree in the same areas is desirable.
    A minimum of 6 years of technical / evaluation experience is required, preferably including evaluating large, regional or global programmes and using a Theory of Change approach;
    A good/broad understanding of protected areas management is desired.
    Working knowledge of the UN system and specifically the work of UNEP is an added advantage.
    Previous working experience in Ukraine and in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (ChEZ) is desirable.

    Tasks:

    Provides policy advisory support to African priority countries in accessing and scaling up sustainable financing for REDD+ activities (upfront, carbon finance and results-based financing).
    Liaise with and convene other REDD+ initiatives and potential co-financing agencies and institutions to ensure REDD+ implementation consists of one nationally owned REDD+ process.
    Bring about purchases or investments of REDD+ projects in target countries and foster better policy and financial instruments to encourage further investment.
    Generate and disseminate knowledge around financial mechanisms such as blended finance to be used to scale investment into REDD+ and NBS. This requires both public and private relationships and joint conversations.
    Establishes good working relationships with partners (public and private) working towards the REDD+ and carbon finance field in Africa.

    Transform these opportunities into project ideas with theory of change to be implemented on the ground.
    Initiate drafts project concept notes, documents/proposals according to donors’ procedures and support the submission process.
    Consult with partners, country focal points and related stakeholders to collect feedback and update the documents as needed.

    Qualifications/special skills

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Natural Resources, Forestry, Environmental Engineering, Economics, Public/Environmental Policy, Environmental impact assessment of projects, public management, or forest management, economics, finance, sustainable development, business administration, Biology or Agronomy, economics, finance, sustainable development, business administration or related field is required.
    A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in public or private sector entities, including in the African region is required.
    Strong knowledge about REDD+ mechanism, not limited to the financing aspects, as well as understanding of financial institutions and sustainable finance with practical experience with at least an African country is required.
    Within the required 5 years, a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in the provision of technical assistance in sustainable forest management or conservation, coordination and planning with national and regional actors related to forest management and/or forest management and climate change will be desirable.

    In collaboration with the Market Systems and Partnerships manager, support the local partners in operationalising strategies to improve market access, competitiveness, and efficiency for these businesses. This includes identifying market gaps, analyzing value chains, and recommending interventions to strengthen market linkages.
    Support the implementation of market system development interventions in collaboration with key stakeholders.

    Partnership Development and Management:

    Assist the Market Systems and Partnerships Manager in identifying, cultivating, and maintaining strategic partnerships with private sector actors, financial institutions, government agencies, NGOs, and other relevant organizations.
    Develop partnership agreements, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure alignment of with BlueBiz objectives.
    Support partner collaboration and knowledge-sharing to drive innovation and create mutually beneficial alliances

    Youth Enterprise Support:

    Develop and deliver training programs for youth entrepreneurs on market systems, business skills, and access to finance.
    Facilitate networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities for youth entrepreneurs, including, but not limited to, exhibiting their products at relevant conferences, pitching in deal rooms, participating in youth dialogues, etc.
    Support organising events (conferences, workshops, networking events) to connect youth-led businesses with potential partners and customers.
    Actively participate in relevant events to promote the program and facilitate networking opportunities.
    Strengthen the capacity of the local partners to identify and conduct workshops, provide one-on-one coaching, and facilitate access to relevant resources to strengthen the capacities of youth entrepreneurs.

    Capacity Building:

    Collaborate with the Enterprise Development Advisors to develop and deliver training programs for youth entrepreneurs on market systems and marketing skills.
    Ensure that the training content and delivery methods are responsive to the needs and contexts of the target beneficiaries.

    Required Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Abilities:

    Relevant educational qualification (preferably bachelor level) in Marketing, Sales,  Economics, Business Management,  or related field and over 3 years of private sector experience working in Marketing, Sales, or associated fields, or in an NGO/government role with an orientation towards private sector development or market systems development.
    A proven track record of working with stakeholders in the blue economy or sustainable development sectors is highly desirable.
    Demonstrated experience in working with youth entrepreneurs and/or marginalised communities.
    Strong understanding of market dynamics, value chains, and business principles.
    Excellent communication, interpersonal, and networking skills.
    Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    Fluency in English is required. Understanding of Swahili is an advantage.
