    Qualifications And Skills

    Proven ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with Kenyan and international partners and donors
    Prior experience with U.S. government grants is preferred
    Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills
    Media relations experience is strongly preferred
    Demonstrated experience developing and implementing programs with NGOs, businesses, associations, and governments

    The Director – Seed Systems (CESSA – Center of Excellence for Seed Systems Africa) is a senior member of the Center of Technical Expertise division. In this role, he/she will provide strategic direction for the Seed Centre of Excellence and play an integral role in program development, management of the seed systems component of a multi-country program, and monitoring of impact in all countries AGRA operates.     Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    Lead and act as a scout for new technologies/initiatives in the Center of Excellence for Seed Systems Africa ensuring that new technologies and initiatives are transferred to continental, regional, and country-level program delivery.
    Recommend deployment and utilization of new products, create enticing product claims, evaluate crop varieties, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
    Provide technical assistance to technical teams within their function overseeing their general management, including program development, delivery, and evaluation, as well as fundraising, budget setting, knowledge management, and all external relationship management.
    Strategizes and directs the technical teams within the function and leads systems development activities.

    Possess a deep understanding of seed production, processing, storage, quality control, certification, and distribution systems. This includes knowledge of various seed technologies relevant to the target crops and contexts.
    Familiarity with plant breeding principles and the development of improved crop varieties, including an understanding of germplasm management and varietal selection.
    Broad knowledge of agricultural practices, cropping systems, and the challenges faced by farmers in the target regions. This includes an understanding of agronomy, soil science, and pest and disease management.
    Ability to analyze seed markets, identify opportunities, and develop strategies for improving seed access and marketing. This includes understanding pricing strategies and business models for seed businesses.

    About the role

    Sightsavers is currently seeking an experienced Evidence Uptake and Learning individual to join our team and manage a range of research evidence uptake and learning activities across the organisation. This role is key in ensuring that evidence from research and other data sources is easily accessible, appropriately stored, and used by different stakeholders within and outside Sightsavers.
    High quality evidence and evidence uptake are critical for our programmes and advocacy. We hold an independent research organisation status by UK Research and Innovation and make significant investments in generating evidence from research, evaluations and routine programme systems.

    Responsibilities

    The post holder will work closely with different teams across the organisation to ensure that effective user-friendly mechanisms and systems for evidence uptake and learning are in place and widely used.

    Further duties include:

    Manage and continuously improve existing mechanisms for consolidation, storage and sharing of research evidence produced at Sightsavers, including evidence trackers, dashboards, websites, and online libraries.
    Facilitate dissemination of Sightsavers research internally to support learning; organise learning seminars and workshops; produce and disseminate the Research team’s bi-monthly newsletter.

    In collaboration with country directors and security focal points (SFPs) the RSSM will support security risk management in countries of operation. Responsible for all aspects of security management at a regional level.
