    Building effective humanitarian response capacity
    Your major focus will be working closely with our country teams to improve the humanitarian response capacity of our Tearfund staff and partners. This will involve capacity assessments, and providing training and accompaniment to partners on good practice and Quality Standards, including CHS.
    Deployment to support responses
    The role will involve supporting partner-led to the crisis, to undertake assessments, guide and advise partners, help develop project design, and support monitoring and reporting, developing preparedness and contingency plans. You will work closely with UK and country based teams to assist with developing compelling funding proposals, and provide information to assist supporter communications and media releases.
    Contributing to learning
    You will make a valuable contribution to Tearfund’s learning culture, participating in evaluations, coordinating and facilitating learning reviews, ensuring learning on humanitarian good practice is disseminated and applied.
    Regional representation
    Your role will also include some representation to external networks and humanitarian funding sources, INGO/NGO coordination groups and providing support in developing partner consortiums.
    You will be educated to degree-level or equivalent and have proven and substantive field-based experience in a disaster management, with a thorough understanding of relevant good practice codes and standards and relevant sectoral experience (primarily WASH and Food Security and Livelihoods). You will have strong creative capacity building and training skills, and have a proven track record in project cycle management, effective support management (Finance, Logistics), capacity building staff and partner organisations, and successful proposal development.
    You will be a strong team player, able to influence and bring others along with you in critical settings. You will be accustomed to working unsupervised and responding to tight deadlines.
    Applicants require strong English language skills (written and spoken). All applicants must be committed to Tearfund’s Christian beliefs.
    This is a fixed term contract for 2 years.
    Location: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya with significant travel (at least 60%) within the East African region (mainly Somaliland, Kenya and Ethiopia). Applicants must be able to provide proof of the right to live and work in Kenya.
    Salary: The salary for this position is 4,249,164 KES per annum. There are no expatriate benefits offered with this position.

    The WorldGBC Africa Regional Network Manager
    The WorldGBC Africa Regional Network (ARN) is a coalition of Green Building Councils across Africa coming together in their common mission to shift the market to green building practices. The network is made up of 8 GBCs at different levels of development – Prospective, Emerging and Established, bringing significant representation and potential for driving the green building agenda from a regional scale. There are many countries in Africa which do not yet have a Green Building Council, which represents a significant opportunity for the WorldGBC to support the set-up and development of GBCs across the continent.
    A Regional Manager’s work within the Regional Network is prioritised equally around three main areas:
    1) Work directly with existing GBCs one-on-one to help them build strong and impactful organisations as well as help to establish new GBCs working with founding groups in different countries
    2) Fundraising and managing sponsor/donor relationships to make sure the Regional Network has sufficient funds to operate.
    3) Bring GBCs together around collaborative projects that add value to their work, increase their capacity to transform their markets and generate influence across the region.
    Specific responsibilities include:
    GBC Development and Support
    • Leverage global network and resources to advance GBCs’ development through each level – Prospective, Emerging, Established, ensure quality control and adherence to WorldGBC standards for GBCs, and support their growth and heightened impact in their respective countries;
    • Identify potential new founding groups in key African countries and support the development of new Green Building Councils across the continent;
    • Assess and evaluate the impact of WorldGBC and GBC activities in the region.
    Regional and Global Collaboration and Influence
    • Introduce, coordinate and support local GBCs on global WorldGBC projects such as Net Zero and the Building Efficiency Accelerator Programme;
    • Through the network, develop and implement projects and partnerships in direct response to GBC needs and successes in the region. These can be related to policy, education, certification, or other topics, ensuring that every GBC member derives value from WorldGBC membership;
    • Coordinate closely with the Regional Chair, Vice-Chair and Steering Committee to develop and agree strategic direction of the Network;
    • Coordinate with other regions, sharing learnings from establishing the Africa Regional Network and supporting them in developing the regional network model;
    • Support Regional Chair and Vice Chair in coordinating, preparing and hosting the Regional meetings;
    • Foster strong relationships amongst GBCs in the region, connecting CEOs, Boards, and staff to share best practice, exchange information and collaborate;
    • Oversee hiring and management of future Regional Network staff and/or consultants and contractors;
    • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager to communicate successes and needs of the Regional GBCs and the Network to a regional and international audience;
    • Represent the region at a national, regional and international level, in speaking engagements, policy development, and in the media;
    • Map regional public sector stakeholders, multinational corporates and NGOs with whom relationships will be built and nurtured at the ARN level;
    Experience and Skills
    • 5-10 years’ experience of working in the building/property/sustainability sector, either within industry, government or another stakeholder group
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French
    • Experience designing and writing grant funding proposals that has resulted in secured funding
    • Experience in fundraising and managing different types of corporate sponsorships
    • Experience in working across Africa, in a number of different countries
    • Ability and capacity to manage multiple projects/activities, maintain tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
    • Ability to work as part of a small and virtual team (based in different locations around the world) to tight deadlines
    • Ability to build consensus from potentially competing viewpoints

    The Project Associate, Kenya, will coordinate the day-to-day activities under the Rainforest Alliance project entitled “Empowering Rural Communities and Households in Kenya with Renewable Energy”, in close coordination with Rainforest Alliance’s partners in the project, the Kenya Tea Development Agency and Living Earth. This project aims to promote the use of biomass briquettes in tea factories, as well as alternative and efficient biomass fuels and cookstoves across a section of the tea growing landscape.
    It will also promote the distribution of energy access products such as solar lanterns through community-run energy enterprises. The Project Associate will provide training and support to Rainforest Alliance Certified™ tea factories and their associated farmers on alternative biomass fuels and technologies to be used in tea factories and in domestic settings, and provide support to Living Earth in setting up Household Energy Centres to manufacture and retail clean cooking fuels, as well as efficient cookstove and solar lighting technology.
    S/he will also be responsible for coordinating and attending meetings with key stakeholders as well as field visits by other Rainforest Alliance member of the Landscapes & Livelihoods, Communications and Monitoring & Evaluation teams and partners.
    Project Associate Job Responsibilities
    Facilitate an initial project needs assessment by a specialist consultant, including providing logistical support and introductions to key stakeholders;
    Provide support to Living Earth on the setting up and smooth operation of ten community energy enterprises, or Household Energy Centres, including providing technical and business training support as needed;
    Arrange and facilitate monthly project technical committee meetings with key stakeholders;
    Liaise with the relevant Kenya Tea Development Agency and biomass briquette central processing facility staff on technical issues related to biomass sourcing and correct use in factories;
    Support the development of training modules and materials on the correct use of biomass in factories and in domestic cookstoves, in collaboration with the Rainforest Alliance training manager;
    Organize, support and provide follow-up on project workshops and exchange visits with local stakeholders;
    Support the Rainforest Alliance technical specialists on M&E, project KPI and climate-related data collection and processing, including the use of portable electronic devices;
    Provide on-farm and centralized training in energy efficiency and energy access measures as contained within the 2017 SAN Standard to certificate holders, trainers and other local stakeholders;

    Support the Programme Manager to generate stories and case studies from the field for use in project reporting, Rainforest Alliance Communication and Fundraising; and

    Qualifications for the Project Associate Job
    BA or BS degree in agriculture, engineering, rural development, natural resource management, or related field;
    4+ years of relevant field experience, with a minimum of two years’ work experience in providing training in energy access and/or energy efficiency technologies;
    First-hand knowledge of energy efficient cooking and/or solar lighting technology, its main market players and related distribution models;

    Purpose of the position
    With the increased portfolio of Diseases in the DNDi Africa Nairobi office, the volume and variety of trials carried out in the eastern Africa region has increased, resulting in the need for a senior scientific leader to coordinate these concurring activities and bring senior R&D expertise to ensure the efficiency and high quality of the clinical operations.
    DNDi has created a new senior position to sit on the regional leadership team in their capacity of Regional Clinical Leader and work very closely with the Geneva Headquarters, where the Disease team leadership is located. The Regional Clinical Leader is accountable for leading and ensuring quality of science and clinical activities of the regional office. The Regional Clinical Leader will enhance regional office standards and SOPs, aligning them with global standards and SOPs, and will oversee the clinical operations team delivery by ensuring clinical development projects are well planned, appropriately resourced and executed in a timely fashion in collaboration with the disease area teams.
    S/he will lead transversal R&D resources located in the region, coordinating the allocation of resources to several disease programs.
    The Regional Clinical Leader is thus accountable, together with the Disease team senior managers, for clinical development and operations of the Nairobi office.
    This position is part of the regional management team and works closely with the R&D department based in Geneva.

    Clinical Operations Management

    PROJECT SUMMARY
    The Mobile Non-Formal Education (MNFE) Project seeks to enhance access to education for nomadic children aged 13-18 years in Marsabit County who are not currently enrolled in any formal schooling.
    The Senior Project Officer will be responsible for the overall management and implementation of the MNFE Project, including liaising with donors, coordinating with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders, building relationships with partners, and communicating to staff and donors.
    A key aspect of the Senior Project Officer’s role will be to review the design of the current 18 months project in view of developing a theory of change and a design that would contribute to developing a high quality, innovative project for the next phase.
    SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    · Providing technical support to the MNFE Project in delivering outlined interventions aimed at increasing access, improving quality of learning, retention, and completion and transition rates for children in non-formal settings in Marsabit County.
    · S/he will facilitate the identification of the unique challenges facing the education of children from nomadic/pastoralist communities and with the support of the Senior Education Specialist, develop a raft of effective interventions aimed at providing quality education to large numbers of pastoralist children in Marsabit County, enhancing the retention and completion for those children enrolled in the MNFE program and paying particular attention to the education of girl children in the province.
    · Ensuring systematic monitoring of learner achievements (with a focus on core subject instruction) and documentation of both partner and core team program activities and interventions.
    · Facilitating relevant operational research whose outcome informs improvements in program design and/or policy influencing especially in relation to Non-Formal Education programs.
    · Developing and maintaining relationships with the Government of Kenya (particularly the Ministry of Education and the Ministry for the Development of Northern Kenya and Other Arid Lands), NGOs, media outlets, and other relevant partners in order to influence policies favorable to the education of marginalized children.
    · Facilitating discussions on the appropriateness of curricula following the outcome of learning assessments and shares action points and recommendations with relevant Ministry of Education departments.
    · Taking the lead in developing Adeso’s pastoral education programming policy advocacy agenda and ensuring MNFE tested models are reviewed by relevant Ministry of Education departments for possible adaption and replications.
    · Building positive and productive relations with implementing partners, Schools, targeted girls, and authorities at all levels.
    · Taking the lead in strengthening the project approach as the overarching non formal education strategy (that focuses on improving the quality of learning opportunities for non-traditional students) in order to enhance community support and ownership of education programs at the district/school levels; and ensuring that the MNFE designed innovative education programs and training packages are of high quality, effectively serve the specified target group, are developed in coordination with the DEPP Project and if necessary, facilitates further refinement of these innovations.
    · Supervising MNFE project staff, teachers and Community Education Committees (CECs).
    · Working collaboratively with staff, teachers, CECs and partners to strengthen the educational components of the project (e.g. pedagogical teacher training, vocational training curriculum development, etc.).
    · Developing teachers’ capacity to undertake regular learner assessments for identified subject areas in line with the principle of evidence-based programming.
    · Facilitating learning forums [such as exhibitions, show case events, workshops] in order to encourage innovation and creativity in the teaching/learning of MNFE supported centers.
    · In coordination with the Head of Programs, represent Adeso among local authorities, donors, international and national NGOs.
    · Representing the organization in forums and related coordination meetings to promote program approaches while ensuring good stewardship project resources.
    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
    ESSENTIAL
    · Masters of Education or related field.
    · At least 3 years of relevant NGO project management experience, preferably in education.
    · A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in education programs especially programs with a bias for pastoralist communities in Kenya.
    · Good understanding of the project cycle including the logical framework analysis (LFA) and Results Based Management (RBM).
    · Good understanding of the dynamics and complexities in the management of programs in pastoralist settings.
    · Ability to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision.
    · Ability to establish strong working relationships with community members and colleagues.
    · Ability to analyse information, evaluate options, and think and plan strategically.
    · Excellent networking and representation skills,
    · Coaching, mentoring and capacity building skills.
    · Attention to detail and strong organization and planning skills.
    · Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
    · Computer literacy in MS Office.
    · Donor reporting.
    · Willing to travel regularly within remote areas.
    · Resident of Marsabit County.
    · Sound knowledge of the education sector with a bias on literacy, numeracy, learning assessments and the policy context.
    · Direct experience with or some exposure to policy advocacy work.
    DESIRABLE
    · Qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
    · Experience working with mobile pastoralist communities.
    · Experience of vocational training programs.
