    Position Summary
    Reporting to the Vice President Business Development & Strategic Partnerships, the Head of Innovative Finance will be responsible for implementing and driving a strategy to improve the availability of inclusive and affordable financial services at scale by facilitating and supporting the development of a range of dynamic programmes that support capacity building for borrowers and financial services providers. S/he will catalyze and promote de-risking mechanisms such as value chain and blended finance instruments including guarantee mechanisms and impact investments by promoting the use of digital alternative data and delivery mechanisms. S/he will for oversee the delivery of suitable innovative finance solutions that ultimately benefit Africa’s smallholder farmers. The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
    Key Duties and Responsibilities
    Lead and manage AGRA’s Innovative Finance Unit to draw on AGRA’s expertise to develop and contribute to the transformation of agriculture in Africa.
    Identify, develop and maintain strong relationships with other partners working to improve access to finance for agriculture in Africa to understand the landscape of current efforts
    Refine AGRA’s role in ensuring appropriate access to credit for agriculture, and improve collaboration in investments that further this work and in sharing the lessons that inform future solutions
    Lead the development of the Innovative Finance Strategy for AGRA, including the hypothesis, the theory of change and action and the implementation plan
    Provide high-level intellectual leadership for the team to develop innovative solutions to catalyse private sector investment in support of increasing access to credit and other financial services for Agriculture in Africa
    Ensure the current Innovative Finance investments are being executed as effectively as possible while reviewing consistently to capture any required  adjustments
    In partnership with the Resource Mobilization team, raise sufficient resources to execute the strategy ultimately approved by the Board, including both direct investments into AGRA for the operations of the Innovative Finance team, as well as investments directly into the schemes that AGRA helps to develop
    Along with the team and other AGRA teams, ensure that the appropriate documentation for these investment instruments is developed and that effective processes and procedures are put in place for the governance and monitoring of these investments
    In partnership with the M&E team, ensure that measurement plans for these investments is well-defined in the strategy and effectively established and implemented in each investment.
    Maintain a wide network of stakeholders and contributors to drive innovative finance strategies in the short, medium to long term.
    Key Qualifications and Experience required
    Master’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, International Development, Finance, Public Administration or any related discipline, from a reputable institution
    Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or any other related area.
    15 years’ experience spanning operational, strategic managerial and leadership positions  in the financial services sector, preferably in Africa, specifically in the areas of rural and agriculture finance, strategic planning and analysis, channel management and product development
    Strong knowledge and experience on how to structure commercial and social partnerships with leading financial service providers, mobile network operators, other technology companies, NGOs and consulting companies to reach rural lower segment markets through technology and branchless banking approaches
    Strong grasp of recent advances in managing risk on Agricultural financing in a rural environment in the context of both direct to farmer and value chain financing projects
    Familiar with key developments, research and industry trends centered around innovative products for financial inclusion such as credit, savings and insurance
    Diverse financial sector experience (banking/management consultancy/ development/ research)
    Strong understanding of the technical aspects of the African financial systems
    Demonstrated experience working in a complex or pioneering environment and in managing, and creating opportunities for change
    Strong relationship management experience with the ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders at the highest levels
    Experience in formulating, developing and implementing new strategies
    Fluency in English required; ability to communicate in French will be considered an asset.

    Since our inception in 2013, Education Effect Africa has been working with disadvantaged communities living in informal settlements of Nairobi and rural areas of Central, Western and Nyanza regions of Kenya.ECDE 2017 project
    Education Effect Africa has secured funding for the implementation of the Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) 2017 project between May and December 2017.
    The main objective of the project is to increase access to high quality early childhood education that stimulates physical, emotional and psycho-social development and promotes holistic care of children living in the informal settlements of Mathare. The project targets 7 public schools and their communities in Mathare Sub County, Nairobi City County.
    Purpose of the internship
    Education Effect Africa is actively seeking for a self-motivated Intern Project Assistant who will assist the Project Officer in the successful implementation of the Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) project in Mathare Sub County, Nairobi City County.
    Responsibilities for the Project Assistant Internships
    Following the guidance of the Project Officer, the overall responsibility of the Intern Project Assistant will be to provide administration, project management and technical support to the entire project team. The Project Assistant will assist the Project Officer in:
    Designing and planning project activities
    Developing project work plans and schedules
    Establishing and maintaining collaboration with stakeholders
    Establishing and maintaining contact with project partner schools.
    Developing good working relationships, building capacity of and collaboration between various management organs of partner schools such as board of governors, school health committees, school management committees and parent teachers association in addressing the objectives of the assigned project.
    Preparing and disseminating formal correspondence, including drafting of correspondence on project related issues
    Collaborating with local offices of the Ministry of Education, other relevant ministries, local authorities such as area chief, village elders in ensuring buy in of the project in the project area
    Mobilizing the community of the project area in undertaking interventions towards projects’ objectives and fostering community contribution to the projects.
    Represent EEA at meetings, events, conferences, etc. with the relevant departments of Government Ministries and other stakeholders.
    Coordination of assigned projects
    Day to day oversight of construction works and supervision of contractors in close coordination with the Project Engineer.
    Providing logistical support during trainings, follow up meetings and other events organized by EEA.
    Providing professional guidance and follow up of participants after trainings.
    Coordinating the work of consultants and other field staff.
    Procurement
    Daily coordination of procurement and delivery of material to field sites.
    Arrangement of travel and hotel reservations for project team.
    Ensure adherence to EEA procurement policies and guidelines.
    Maintain high quality documentation throughout the project life
    Preparing, disseminating and compiling of necessary project templates and documents.
    Ensuring timely filing of project documentation (both physical and electronic).
    Maintain a registry of project-related correspondence and progress as well as technical reports.
    Monitoring and evaluation
    Assist in tracking, monitoring and evaluation of project status and related documentation.
    Compile, summarize and enter data on the project, draft related status reports.
    Carry out other relevant duties as assigned by the Project Officer
    Project Assistant Internships Requirements
    Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in project management, community development, early childhood education or related field.
    Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills in English and Swahili. Good report writing skills is highly desirable.

    · Lead the formulation, implementation and operationalization of AGRA’s Grants management framework and strategy
    · Lead and drive the development of all policies and procedures related to grant administration
    · Guide the production of grant materials for each grant and program-related contract made by AGRA, including ensuring that all grant and contract materials are prepared accurately and in compliance with all AGRA policies and procedures and with the IRS regulations
    · In collaboration with the Legal Unit, review all legal implications and ensure correctness with all grant documentation that require legal interpretation and support
    · Conduct analysis on grant data for AGRA leadership and Board and produce management indicators as required

    · Lead the Grant teams to compile the grant reports section and other grant-related sections of periodic reports to donors, board dockets and AGRA annual reports

Serve as the primary GIFTS business owner, partnering with information technology, finance and program staff to document, manage, and implement ongoing procedural enhancements, software upgrades, and new technology roll out as required
    · Contribute towards the structure of AGRA’s annual grant making budget.
    · Lead, Manage, and implement continuous improvement initiatives for grants administration ensuring that solutions align with strategic goals
    · Implement efficient reporting procedures to guide recording of all incoming proposals and declinations in GIFTS
    · Put in place a strategy to manage the flow of grants over the course of every year, advising business on timing and potential issues that need to be addressed
    · Develop, implement and monitor proper fiscal administration systems and provide financial analyses of audits and reports
