  • Head of Drawing Office

    JOB PURPOSE

    This position as Head of Drawing Office, will help Weza Utility set up by coordinating Drawing activities and unit to, a high quality design of line extension that meet international  and structural requirements by calculating dimensions and material specifications, and creating detailed designs using computer-aided design (CAD) software, in liaise with engineers.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervise the Design of maps, diagrams, and layouts to illustrate distribution line extensions and other assets
    Coordinate the review of rough sketches with engineers 
    Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards
    Identify computer-aid-design needs or technology evolution and formulate requests to the hierarchy
    Coordinate the preparation of the monthly report of operations activities
    Track, record and evaluate employee performance
    Coordinate and participate in the implementation of the security and environmental policy within the unit
    Manage the unit’s OPEX budget and resources
    Participate in all other activities at the request of the hierarchy (seminar, budget conference, etc.)
    Organize continuity of service in the unit
    Ensure designs adhere to international standards and incorporate global best practices in drafting and CAD techniques

    KEY COMPETENCIES

    Working knowledge of CAD software (Autocad), drawing programs, and 3D modeling tools, such as SmartDraw and SketchUp.
    Excellent knowledge of architectural and engineering design principles.
    Write professional documents (reports, letters, meeting minutes, etc.)
    Ability to integrate international standards and best practices into drafting and design processes.   

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Education

    A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, design or similar field.

    Experience

    Minimum of 5 years of experience as a design drafter, Drawing Team leader or a similar role.
    Minimum of 2 years of international experience in drafting, design, or leading drafting teams, or working on projects in multicultural environments.

    Certifications

    Relevant certifications such as those from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) or similar international institutions are a plus.

  • Civil Engineer

    JOB PURPOSE

    The position of Civil Engineer will help Weza Power for the design and managing various construction projects such as medium voltage lines, buildings and others, incorporating international standards and practices where applicable.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Conduct on site investigations in collaboration with surveyors and analyze data (maps, reports, tests, drawings and other)
    Carry out technical and feasibility studies and draw up blueprints for MV lines, substations and other buildings that satisfy technical specifications
    Assess potential risks, materials and costs
    compiling job specifications and supervising tendering procedures
    Participates in the preparation of contracts
    Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including design specifications, bills of materials, and test reports.
    Assessing in collaboration with E&S team project’s environmental impact and potential risk
    Ensure that designs comply with relevant safety and industry regulations.
    Oversee and mentor staff and liaise with electrical engineers, topography, cartography and drawing
    Monitor progress and compile reports in project status
    Comply with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc and deliver technical files and other technical documentation as required
    Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering to drive continuous improvement in our designs.
    Ensure compliance with international construction and safety standards where relevant to the projects.

    KEY COMPETENCIES

    Proven working experience in civil engineering
    Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar

    About the Role

    Anzana is hiring a Senior Counsel for its subsidiary Weza Power on a full-time basis. The Senior Counsel will lead the legal function for Weza Power including matters related to financing, utility setup, employment, stakeholder engagement, regulatory compliance, procurement and construction as Weza Power raises and deploys approximately $1.4B to connect 9 million Burundians over the next seven years. The Senior Counsel will work closely with Anzana’s Head of Legal, COO and CEO, other senior personnel at Weza Power, as well as local counsel and advisors.   The successful candidate will possess high standards of professionalism and integrity, be solution-oriented, capable at prioritizing effectively, practical in their approach, patient and driven.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    The Senior Counsel will be entrusted with the following duties and responsibilities: 

    Lead negotiations related to the financing of Weza Power with private investors and DFIs, including IFC and the World Bank
    Assist in the establishment of the first private distribution utility in Burundi, including building and implementing policies and procedures throughout the organization to ensure Weza Power meets the highest international standards at all levels of the company
    Ensure the implementation of human resources and business integrity policies and provide legal direction on all employment matters
    Participate in and advise on the engagement of governmental and other local stakeholders;
    Be the primary point of contact and manage relationships and engagements with local tax, legal, and other advisors
    Ensure regulatory compliance and oversee the Weza Power compliance function to ensure ongoing compliance with the standards and requirements of funders
    Oversee and manage legal, commercial, supply chain and reputational risk in procurement processes and procedures
    Lead negotiations related to construction contracts
    Oversee day-to-day corporate matters including contract management, real estate transactions, imports, employee benefits, tax and insurance

    Minimum Requirements: 

    The ideal candidate would have the following skills and credentials: 

    Education and Experience: 

    Licensed attorney (in the US, UK, France and/or Burundi) in good standing with 10 or more years of relevant experience including: 
    Experience working in and/or across from the World Bank and the IFC
    Project finance experience in the energy/infrastructure sector
    In-house experience, particularly at a multinational enterprise operating in Africa
    Work in civil and common law jurisdictions
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office

    Competencies:
