    DECLARATION OF VACANCIES
    For appointment as a Member of the Board of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, a person should:

    be a Kenyan citizen;
    possess a degree from a university recognized in Kenya;
    meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution;
    have knowledge and experience of not less than ten (10) years in any of the following fields:-

    Medicine
    Psychology

    have had a distinguished career in his/her respective field; and
    is fit and proper to serve as a member of the Board charged with upholding and protection of ethics, professionalism, accountability and lawful conduct.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    In compliance with Section 10 (2) of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority Act, (No. 35, 2011 Revised Edition, 2012), a person does not qualify for nomination and appointment as Chairperson or Member of the Board if s/he:

    has previously served as a member of the Board;
    is employed by or is associated with any person who supplies services or goods to the Authority, or whose spouse or other family member is so employed or associated;
    holds office in a political party;
    is a Member of Parliament or a member of a county assembly or a Governor or Deputy Governor;
    is a serving police officer, or retired from being such an officer within the last five years
    has been convicted, whether in Kenya or elsewhere, of an offence involving dishonesty or of any other offence for which such person has been sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine; or
    is unable to perform the functions of office due to mental incapacity;
    is an undischarged bankrupt.

    The names of the shortlisted candidates shall be published in the print media after the closure of the advert.
    Shortlisted candidates may be required to submit additional information and will be subjected to a public interview process.
    The remuneration for these positions shall be determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
    The chairperson and members of the Board of the Authority shall hold office for a non-renewable term of six (6) years.
    The Board shall be part-time and will meet not less than four (4) times every financial year.
