    About The Role

    The role will lead Videojet’s paid and organic search marketing efforts for Africa and will be based in Kenya. Through in-depth analytics and working with cross-functional teams and external resources, you will develop and execute programs to increase inbound traffic and leads from the web. The Digital Marketing Specialist will bring new ideas to the table whilst pushing the boundaries of existing practices by demonstrating a ‘continuous improvement’ mind-set to grow the business in the most cost effective way.     Key Responsibilities

    Ensure the website content creates a first class customer experience, while supporting Videojet strategies and business priorities
    Lead SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to increase organic search visibility and ranking.
    Manage the development, implementation, monitoring, tracking and optimizing of PPC (Pay-Per-Click) campaigns such as Google AdWords. This includes identifying and tracking industry keywords and their popularity.
    Build and maintain AdWords landing pages, building content and structure that drives Click Through Rate and leads
    Drive impactful incremental revenue growth by generating high quality sales ready leads from new customers.
    Work closely with the sales teams to identify market requirements and trends in order to continuously tailor content to the specific needs of our customers.
    Create a social presence on social media including Twitter, Facebook etc.
    Lead e-mail campaigns and execution of digital and related marketing campaigns.
    Report & analyse on key performance indicators and find opportunities for improvement on a monthly basis.

    Key Requirements

    Save the Elephants is looking for a post-doctoral research manager, to be based at its research camp in Samburu, northern Kenya.

    Reporting to: Director of Research, STE, with inputs from Founder & CEO.

     
    Duration of Position: 3-month probation followed by 24-month contract with option for renewal.

    Location: Based at Save the Elephants’ research center in Samburu National Reserve, with occasional travel to Nairobi for meetings.

    Skills Required: PhD in the biological sciences with experience of analyzing animal behavior/ecology and managing science research in African field conditions.

    Nationality: Ideal for a Kenyan citizen or resident. Qualified non-Kenyans may apply but a work permit would only be secured after a voluntary 3-month probation period was successfully completed.

     

    Salary: Negotiable

     

    Medical cover: Offered for in country medical cover or annual contribution to personal plan.

     

    Working Week if in Samburu: 6 days a week Monday to Saturday, Sundays off in local area.

     

    Working Week if in Nairobi: 5 days a week Monday to Friday.

    Activities:

    Research (Time: 35%)

    Carry out original research on elephant movement and behaviour within the STE research programme in Samburu, making use of data from collared elephants. The focus should be on patterns and drivers of movement, including risk, food, water and social behaviour, but exact research topics and methodology are to be determined.

    Management and coordination (Time: 65%)

    Day to day technical supervision of Samburu-based research staff and liaison with collaborators. Supervise STE database officers to ensure quality control of data collection and help with data management and back up protocols. In particular assist with (i) long term elephant monitoring project, (ii) wildlife corridors project (iv) MIKE data collection, (v) mammal census surveys, (vi) human footprint monitoring (vii) human elephant conflict monitoring (viii) monitoring of orphan elephants at Sera Sanctuary and (ix) recording of environmental data at the research center.

    Field supervision of PhD and MSc students based in Samburu.
    Scientific supervision of interns and assistance with their selection. Plan and supervise visiting interns on their independent projects ensuring each intern has a clear project plan and that their efforts are complementing and assisting with the work load of staff on site.
    Oversight of STE Samburu radiotracking programme. Supervise monitoring of collared elephants in Samburu using the STE tracking app, be ready to support or lead a response team to track any collared elephants that need emergency assessment or to monitor interesting behavior & make sure that regular monitoring flights take place.
    Assist in development of general STE research plans and collaboration with external researchers.
    Local liaison. Ongoing support and collaboration with county wardens, rangers, KWS and local NGO stakeholders on Save the Elephants’ research activities in the Samburu Ecosystem. Ensure smooth coordination with Samburu and Buffalo Springs rangers and wardens over any research activities conducted in the conservation area in coordination with Head of Field Operations.
    Research coordination: Work with STE’s Project Officers, Database Managers and ResearchCenter Manager to ensure integration of all research programs on site with particular emphasis with ensuring smooth work progress and co-ordination from each data collecting team.
    Communication: Weekly updates to the CEO and Research Director, highlighting research and science activities. Attend STE management meetings.
    Presentations: Be willing to present to donors/visitors to the research center on the research and science activities being conducted by Save the Elephants in Samburu.
    Safety: Routine review of safety procedures and first aid equipment for fieldwork. Ensuring health, safety and well-being of all staff, interns and students when conducting research in the field.

    Preferred qualities and experience

    PhD in wildlife ecology or behaviour or similar topic.
    Experience working on wildlife in Africa.
    Interest in continuing applied research and engaging in research management.
    Must be enthusiastic about the prospect of working in a moderately remote field
    camp with basic living conditions.
    Self-reliant and motivated, able to solve problems as they come up.
    Good communicator both spoken and written, willing to engage with wide variety of
    people.
    Driving license and experience in off-road driving.
    Enjoy working with complex, multicultural team and collaborators.
    Interested in natural history and understanding elephant biology.

    Qualification / Experience Required

    Extensive knowledge of qPCR, sequencing, and/or microarray is preferred
    Relevant Sales experience and a high level of professional expertise gained in the sale of CapEx lab instrumentation, will be beneficial

    POSITION SUMMARY & PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

    The incumbent’s role under the general guidance of technical manager and within the limits of the established Farm policies, procedures & regulations, shall ensure products produced meets the necessary quality, processes by monitoring and implementing.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Ensure product produced at the pack house is of the quality to meet customer requirements whilst ensuring the factory operation remains efficient and cost effective.
    Audit and review quality records ensuring they are maintained in accordance with company procedures and escalating any problems or inconsistencies found.
    Investigate and report on customer complaints to client’s notifications/rejections, where appropriate, make recommendations of action to prevent a reoccurrence of the problem.
    Maintain summaries of customer complaints and trending on the same monitor the sequence for presentation in weekly production meeting.

    Coordinate and arrange for the packing of shelf life products and ensure QCs keep unto date records.

    Provide support to the Technical manager.  I.e. assist in coordination of successful audits (BRC, Global Nurture, Waitrose, select farm, TFS etc., done throughout the year.
    Ensure all staff are trained in order to perform jobs adequately and specifically to ensure quality products are delivered with a minimum of wastage and optimization of stock control.
    Supervises, and coordinates activities of workers engaged in in-load and inspection of incoming materials, in process, and finished products to ensure adherence to company quality standards and customer specifications
    Trains workers on the inspection procedure for each new product and maximum and minimum acceptable dimensions.
    Repeats inspection procedure until product meets quality standards and specifications are attained.
    Ensure Quality and Rejection reports are send through to farm and field Management.
    Ensure accurate temperature reports are taken and sent to respective persons. Produce arrival, Packhouse and Finished product temperatures whilst escalating temperatures above limits.

    Supervise, plan and coordinate daily duties to the quality controllers.
    Maintain up to date forms and records, updating on annual basis as well as ensuring the correct version is in use.
    ensure customer specs are available all the timespans communicated to the QCs.
    Act as the link between the management and the quality assurance team.
    Reduction of raw material wastage at pack house to reasonable levels.
    Provide cover in absence of technical manager.
    Promote and maintain ethical and professional standards in line with company staff regulations, ETI and other codes of conducts to enhance worker welfare.
    Health and Safety – Ensure all duties are performed safely and responsibly in consideration to Environmental, Health and Safety Company policies
    Any other duty as may be assigned to you by the management from time to time.

    The incumbent in this position is responsible for overall technical matters at the Packhouse running and coordination of farm operations to ensure maximum production of safe, quality, legal and authentic product in order to optimize the company market share and improve the farms efficiency and productivity and at the same time ensuring staff welfare and protection and conservation of the environment.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Job holder will be expected to demonstrate commitment and loyalty and perform all duties in accordance with the organization’s office routines and procedures, keeping in mind the overall business objectives.

    The main purpose of this position is to oversee and conduct internal audits that conform to food safety, quality and standard operating procedures.  Ensure that products, systems and procedures are compliant with customers’ codes of practice and specifications.
    In conjunction with the quality assurance manager, oversee the technical functions for the vegetables section whilst ensuring that all hygiene and quality procedures are operated in adherence with documented procedures as outlined in the QMS.
    Communicate all aspects of Technical policy to Technical team.
    Provide up to date technical advice for specific areas of technical responsibility
    Ensure accurate and prompt responses and consequent corrective action to all technical incidences including customer complaints, micro out of spec, audit non-conformity, pesticide residues, MRLs, and any other non-conformity.
    Use QMS data to monitor and review performance taking appropriate action and implementing product and process improvement.
    Conduct internal audits of the canteen and company systems including all production, process, hygiene and quality systems and continually review, develop the technical and production systems with the aim of improving their effectiveness and efficiencies. Follow up on external audits corrective/ improvement plans.
    Implement requirements of the Global nurture and BRC standards, Tesco food standards, and any other relevant standards for factory.
    Keep up to date with technical developments and encourage the continual development of our products and processes.
    Instigate and manage production process and development trails.
    Manage all aspects of food safety relating to vegetable pack house, pest control, farm production areas, canteens and ensure that they comply with the relevant legislations.
    Manage and monitor cleaning chemical costs and ensure they do not exceed budget.
    Provides support and cover for the quality assurance manager.
    Ensure all technical staff are trained in order to perform jobs adequately and specifically to ensure quality products are delivered with a minimum of wastage and optimization of stock control.
    Oversee the Global nurture and BRC standards.
    Ensure all the cold rooms meet both hygiene and sanitation standards.
    Act as a point of contact for the technical department, Oversee development and implementation of the relevant technical SOPs.
    Develop documentation and participate in review of all technical data and implementation and review of the current internal procedures as need arises or as advised.
    In charge of Documents control for the Pack house.
    Any other duty as may be assigned to you by the management from time to time

    A Bachelor’s Degree in either or related disciplines; Food Science and Technology, Horticultural Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology or Chemistry
    At least 3 years related progressive experience in a busy food processing or related industry
    HACCP training and applications
    Other On -Job trainings on quality control
    Promote and project a positive attitude towards the company and its objectives.
    Knowledge of pack house equipment and machinery and the ability to operate and to effectively train others in the safe operations of such.
    Skill and ability to evaluate systems-identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance relative to goals of the company.
    Computer acumen and skills e.g. MS word and MS office.

    Production of properly completed, clear & legible records.

    Compliance to policies, procedures & regulations pertaining to Quality assurance.
    Efficient filing & retrieval of all records.

    Timely & efficient response to all out of tolerances as pertaining to Quality assurance.
    Minimise number of customer quality complaints.
    Reduction of raw material wastage to reasonable levels both at the farm and pack house.

    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

    Immediate Subordinates: Technical Assistants, QA Manager and Quality Controllers will report to you, you will be expected to assign duties, guide and support them.

    In your absentia duties will be delegated to the Packhouse manager/QA Manager.
