    Key Responsibilities

    General: Annually, the Regional Communications Manager will outline the communications, objectives, priorities and activities for the Africa Field Division (AfFD) internally through the production of the Division’s Communications Plan.
    External communications: This role is responsible for the AfFD’s public relations. This includes identifying opportunities for media outreach, preparing media releases and other content for news and feature articles, working with the press, arranging interviews for CI spokespeople, writing on behalf of CI spokespeople, preparing spokespeople for press conferences, media interviews, and speeches.
    They will also manage CI issued content for websites and social media and various other contributions to CI global activities, including communications with the Africa Advisory Board and contributions to CI’s Annual Report.
    Internal communications: The Regional Communications Manager will coordinate and manage AfFD’s internal communications. S/he will ensure CI staff are aware of key AfFD news and projects. The post holder will identify suitable stories and support the field division’s contributions, providing copywriting and messaging services as needed. This role is directly responsible for the AfFD Info Hub, website, and the production of the AfFD’s quarterly e-newsletter.

    Qualifications

    A Bachelor’s degree in communications or any related subject.
    A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in communications, journalism, and/or promotional activities, in lieu of Bachelor’s degree in communications.
    A good command of English, with proven presentation, writing and editing skills
    Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to connect with people from all walks of life
    A self-starter who is able to work well independently as well as in a team
    Demonstrated experience in working with both traditional and social media, especially with news placement, blogging and awareness campaigns.

    Manage all M&E tracking and reporting

    Populate a database for recording data and strengthen M&E systems to support and track all project components and activities;

    The Elephant Protection Initiative is the African-led inter-Governmental initiative to protect elephants and stop the illegal ivory trade. The EPI calls for elephant range states, partner states, Non-Governmental Organizations, International Government Organizations, private citizens and the private sector to work together to: maintain the international ban established by CITES in 1989 to protect elephant populations; place ivory beyond economic use; close all domestic ivory markets; and develop and Implement National Elephant Action Plans.

    About The Position
    The EPI is looking for an accomplished innovative Communications Director to take the lead in developing and implementing the overall Communications Strategy for the EPI – which will outline prioritised communications objectives and activities and be reviewed on an annual basis – and manage media, branding, marketing and communications functions. They will work to ensure awareness of the EPI’s work both regionally and globally, internally and externally, and foster greater understanding and support for its mission. The EPI Director of Communications will work independently and as part of a small team based in Nairobi and London, and in partnership with government, IGO and NGO partners in Africa and elsewhere.
    Their goals will be to improve external and internal EPI Communications, establish and promote the EPI “brand”, deliver press coverage and promotion, maintain an effective EPI website, and raise EPI’s social media profile – as well as other related goals as agreed. They will have strong relationships with EPI Secretariat Staff, and an up-to-date knowledge of their upcoming work and progress so that they can use this strategically to promote the EPI.
    This role will manage, according to need and available resources, the production and maintenance of key communications material including factsheets, maps, film and web content in support of the EPI’s overall programme and fundraising efforts as required.
    The EPI Director of Communications will be contracted to Stop Ivory, but will fulfil an EPI Secretariat function jointly managed by Stop Ivory and Conservation International.     About The Position
    The Director of National Elephant Action Plans (NEAPs) is responsible for providing strategic oversight and programmatic direction for National Elephant Action Plans across Africa. W orking independently and as part of a small team based in Nairobi and London, and in partnership with government, IGO and NGO partners in Africa and elsewhere, they will play a pivotal role in supporting African governments and partner NGOs to develop, review and implement NEAPs – utilizing the NEAP Standards and Guidelines and assisting with their periodic review process.
    They are responsible for senior-level program management and ensuring that program strategies, initiatives and outcomes advance the Elephant Protection Initiative’s human development and conservation priorities. Duties are diverse, and include designing and implementing program and conservation strategies, project management, technical oversight and monitoring, fundraising and capacity building. The Director of NEAPs ensures compliance with EPI policies, program and funding agreements, and local requirements.
    The EPI Director of NEAPs will be contracted to Stop Ivory, but will fulfil an EPI Secretariat function jointly managed by Stop Ivory and Conservation International.     Key Responsibilities

    Identify opportunities for program growth and development and support the programme’ s financial sustainability by identifying funding opportunities.     Advanced degree in biological, environmental or conservation science or related field.

    Proven project management experience for cross-border projects and/or multi-site projects.
    Ability to engage with a variety of audiences from grass roots to high ranking government and/or donors.
