    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    This is a fixed-term position of 1 year, renewable subject to mutual agreement and availability of funds. The position’s main focus relates to the overall responsibility of undertaking research work as part of the project “Restoring nature and peace threatened by climate change: monitoring human security benefits of EbA in Kenya”

    Support the project manager in Kenya and lead the data collection in the field.
    Support the development of household surveys and surveys for key informant interviews.
    Select, train, supervise and provide support to local enumerators that will conduct monthly household surveys.
    Organize and lead key informant interviews with community members and community leaders.
    In liaison with the project manager, organize and lead meetings with local communities and decision-makers to discuss project activities and results.
    Review data collected on household surveys and during key informant interviews.
    Lead the preparation of materials to be presented and shared during meetings.
    Lead data analysis collected during household surveys and key informant interviews.
    Perform other roles that may be assigned by the line supervisor.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Organize and lead meetings with CI project partners (BigLife and MWCT) to coordinate field activities and community engagement.
    Organize field research logistics and resources.
    Ensure research data quality assurance.

    PEOPLE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

    This role does not have direct management of staff but will closely work and support research peers.
    Accountable for operating funds and ensures accounting for expended funds within established CI guidelines.
    Responsible for safety and proper use of the facilities and equipment assigned to facilitate field activities.

    Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
    WORKING CONDITIONS

    This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya
    The role will involve frequent field visits which may require traveling in remote areas up to 40% of the time.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Required

    2 to 4 years of experience in research work, conservation, and familiarity with concepts and tools required to undertake socio-economic surveys and data analysis.
    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively establish and maintain an excellent working relationship in the multicultural-ethnic environment and respect diversity.
    Experience organizing and leading workshops/meetings with local communities.

    Experience with conservation-related research and team management.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Produce work plans for each project site and manage the implementation of all project activities including coordinating the implementation of project activities that will be implemented by executing partners.
    Facilitate the day-to-day operating of the project according to approved work plans and recommendations of AI2, Project Lead, and National PSCs.

    Support AI2 and Project Lead to identify capacity development needs of executing partners and arrange for necessary training.
    Monitor and evaluate all project activities.
    Support the Safeguards Compliance officer as needed and ensure that environmental and social safeguards are set up, implemented, monitored, and adhered to. Review all Safeguards reporting.
    Ensure regular and effective communication between the PMU, Country counterpart staff, protected area authorities, PSC, AI2, GEF, and CI.
    Produce communications material and updates for CI and AI2.
    Review deliverables of grantees, consultants, and/or contractors.
    Review the deliverables of partner institutions and grantees, and consultants, including financial reports.
    Responsible for managing some public or private funds, monitoring results, and recommending follow-up action. Reviews for understanding and compliance with donor agreements.
    Perform related duties as assigned.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Willingness to work flexibly from the CI Nairobi office and/or from home.
    Periodic travel to the project site and other office locations.
    Comfortable working out of doors for extended periods.
    Ability and willingness to work outside the normal work schedule to meet project deadlines.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Required

    Bachelor’s Degree or relevant combination of education and experience, and 4 to 6 years of related work experience in project management, including planning and budgeting

    Roles and Responsibilities:
    Implementing partner financial management:

    Being the focal person for the (assigned) portfolio of implementing partners and responsible for the financial management of the full cycle of partner grants from due diligence/capacity assessments, supporting budget reviews, financial monitoring and reviews, and program financial close-out within the agreed scope.
    Designing and updating, in liaison with the client, the relevant manuals and standard operating procedures that provide the implementing partners with the relevant financial management guidelines.

    This will include review of quarterly expenditure, analysing budget vs actual variances, reviewing financial compliance, review of cash forecasts and disbursement requests and to ensure compliance to agreed guidelines, client regulations and Standard Operating Procedures.
    Lead the risk assessment of partner projects to ensure the risks are correctly identified and risk mitigations are put in place and monitored to safeguard resources.
    Management and escalation of any financial issues to the Team Leader as they arise in the financial oversight of the partners.
    Plan and coordinate meetings that may be required as part of project implementation between the partners and the client, including but not limited to project review meetings, budget modifications discussions, performance meetings etc.

    Portfolio level financial management: 

    Maintaining accurate and timely portfolio level financial documentation and data for the project, and report on commitments, disbursements, spend and cash flow projections and actual spend analysis for accountability to the client.
    Supporting the client in the cash forecasting routines for the fund based on partners cash needs to ensure that adequate resources are availed on timely basis to support project implementation efforts.
    On a quarterly and annual basis, preparation of consolidated reports for the portfolio in formats as prescribed and agreed in the Standard Operating Procedures.
    Ensure the grants management systems and project financial trackers are updated in a timely & accurate manner with the correct financial information for project.
    Guiding the Data and Analytics team in design of project dashboards and other data analytics that may be required as part of reporting procedures to the client.
    Overall, support the provision of financial data and information that enables the client programs and financial teams to make effective decisions.
    Support client annual audit processes and provide the necessary financial information and respond to any findings identified.
    The manager will also be expected to support IDAS business development activities including strategy, opportunity tracking, proposal writing, lesson learning and thought leadership.

    Qualifications and experience 

    Proven experience of fund and grants management in development programmes across a range of sectoral areas.
    At least 9 years’ working experience in the international development sector with at least 4 years on fund and grants.
    Well-developed presentation, proposal and report writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
    At least four years of donor funded grants management experience.
    Must be French speaking.
    Must have experience in financial analysis

    Qualifications
    Minimum Requirements:

     The Chief of Party must have at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience related to the project subject matter. Within the ten (10) years of experience, the Chief of Party should have at least five (5) years of experience managing teams and at least two (2) years of experience working in conflict zones.
     The Chief of Party must have previous experience managing third-party monitoring projects, M&E support projects, or large-scale evaluations.
     Ability and willingness to be mobile and agile at a momentâs notice in case of an emergency required.
     Ability and willingness to work for extended periods in insecure and diverse environments.
     Ability and willingness to safely enter and exit a larger, armored SUV vehicle that is several feet off the ground without assistance, while wearing body armor and/or a heavy flak jacket.
     In case of an emergency situation, must be able and willing to “duck and seek cover”, which may require the individual to exit the vehicle, unaided, and hurriedly seek shelter elsewhere, as needed, in the event of a roadside emergency.

    Desired experience:

     The Chief of Party should have previous experience conducting quantitative and qualitative field research in conflict zones.
     Previous experience working on programs implemented in Somalia is desirable.
     Previous experience managing sub-contractors is desirable.
     Previous experience implementing a USAID-funded program is desirable.

     Education: The Chief of Party must hold a Masters degree in International Affairs, Social Science, or a related field.

    Qualifications

    A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in fields related to the successful implementation of this project such as water technical expertise, and local governance and private sector capacity building for improvement of water management and services. 
    Proven leadership in the administration of similar size international donor support programs with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision and budgeting. 
    Proven ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
    Evidence of strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written to fulfil the diverse technical and managerial requirements of the contract.
    Knowledge of Kenyan water security issues preferred.
