    Duties and Responsibilities of Editor

    Provide substantive editorial support (i.e., ‘heavy’ editing and rewriting where needed, content reorganization and, in limited cases, producing original draft text to fit purpose.
    Copy editing of the entire volume through detailed line edit, ready for final content approval;
    Follow up as needed with authors to ensure clarity and inclusion of the latest available information, as well as the best photos available;
    Ensure clarity and consistency of chapter abstracts, key messages and of all body text;
    Editing the presentation style of the document and its suitability for intended audiences;
    Advise on the continuity of style and content across/between different chapters, and the overall presentation of the report;
    Proofread text and all tables and graphic elements;
    Proofread the final designed publication for accuracy and clarity, and work with the designer to rectify any problems and/or provide any minor editing that may be occasioned by the final design.

    Deliver edited ‘how to series’ of between 25-30 pages within two weeks of receiving materials.

    Functional Competencies:

    Ability to think analytically, synthesize and clearly present complex processes and issues to service the information needs of heterogeneous audiences
    Excellent writing skills – ability to write in a structured, lucid and concise manner
    Demonstrated ability in substantively editing animal science/ veterinary related/ highly academic pieces and transform to readable pieces for wider audience.

    Education:

    World Animal Protection is looking to appoint a Consultant to undertake the development of a Humane Dog Management training manual to be used in the delivery of the Better Lives for Dogs Campaign in Africa.
    The training manual targets high-level government officers working for Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health at both the national and county governments in Kenya. The manuals use targets also institutions of higher learning (Universities) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, VERU, and Tertiary Agriculture and Livestock Training Institutions. The materials will be useful and easily adaptable to suit the need and context of different audiences across Africa where World Animal Protection works
    This initial scope will be firmed up in the initial report of the consultant for discussion with the World Animal Protection.
    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
    The Consultant should have a background in the following areas:

    A minimum Bachelors of Education Degree in Education or Curriculum development from a reputable institution of higher learning in Kenya learning.
    Experience with training of professionals will be an advantage
    A Bachelors in Veterinary Medicine, Animal health/ Science or livestock production with experience in teaching at tertiary levels or undertaking professional trainings.

    Main Purpose of the Role
    ​The Response Officer will assist with the implementation and development of World Animal Protection’s initiatives in support of the overall objectives in disaster relief efforts. S/he will assist with the implementation of disaster response and recovery. This position will report to the Response Manager and perform these functions with guidance of the Programmes Director, Animals in Disaster.
    The Response Officer represents the organisation in external fora, to governments, local authorities, INGOs and media.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in the humanitarian field, public health, veterinary epidemiology
    3+ years of experience working with animals in difficult circumstances Substantial experience of leading Emergency and Disaster response operations essential.
    Current First Aid and Risk Assessment Qualifications
    Trained in Veterinary Emergency Response and Livestock Emergency Guideline Standards (LEGS)

    Desirable

    Experience of working in an international NGO environment.
    Experience of matrix management, across multiple projects in a medium/large sized organisation.
