    Task description
    Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Coordinator, AMCEN Secretariat, or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV – Associate Programme Officer will:

    Provide technical support and participate in intergovernmental processes in the context of the implementation of the work and decisions of AMCEN.
    Support the AMCEN Secretariat’s work in research, report writing, and document preparation, including drafting policy and information briefs to communicate AMCEN decisions and their implementation to key stakeholders.
    Assist in the development and dissemination of communication and publicity material aimed at raising the profile of AMCEN’s work in the region
    Support the AMCEN Secretariat in preparing activity progress reports, including timely reporting of programmatic activities.
    Provide support on engagement and maintaining of good relations with partners and relevant organizations, institutions, and stakeholders at national, regional, and international levels, including scientific and academic bodies, private sector, financial institutions, civil society, youth, and gender
    Support resource mobilization, building of external relations and partnerships through the development of quality project proposals, timely reporting, and other correspondence as relevant.
    Support the organization of AMCEN conferences, meetings, and events, including making arrangements for technical support, facilities, and registration when needed, and provide information to participants.
    Assist in the timely and effective communication and engagement with all African countries, in particular the French speaking countries.
    Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

    Results/expected outputs:

    As an active UNEP Africa Office team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly, and high-quality support rendered to UNEP Africa Office and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
    Effective and timely implementation of the work and decisions of AMCEN;
    Policy and information briefs on AMCEN decisions and their implementation prepared and research undertaken;

    Requirements
    Required experience

    5 years of experience in international environmental management or other relevant programmes at the national and/or international level.
    Experience with planning and project management is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
    Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
    Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The consultant will facilitate the planning of consultations, meetings, and workshops with TEEBAgriFood stakeholders in Mexico.
    The consultant will play a key role in guiding and facilitating communication between interested parties, as well as in achieving the expected results during each event, to promote changes in public policies that consider the Four Capitals;
    protect the provision of ecosystem services, and contribute to the sustainability of agrifood systems. In addition, the consultant will promote integrating the results of the TEEBAgriFood coffee and maize studies in the public and private sectors at all levels, including the executive and legislative branches at the national and sub-national levels, and promote synergies and collaboration between relevant actors.
    The consultant will work with, the UNEP Economics of Nature Unit in Geneva and Nairobi (later referred as TEEBAgriFood team) as well as with the UNEP Mexico Office and will support the afore-mentioned efforts with the responsibilities described below.
    Prepare a work plan to be delivered two weeks after signing the contract to promote the application of the TEEBAgriFood results in agricultural, environmental, and social public policy, including facilitation methodologies for meetings and workshops, and activities with relevant actors.
    Identify actors and stakeholders interested in integrating social and environmental sustainability criteria in the coffee and maize value chains (social producers and companies) and channels and means of dissemination appropriate to their needs, preferences, and interests; promote the dissemination of the recommendations of the TEEBAgriFood studies through different public and private agencies; adapt contents and prepare materials to disseminate the results of the TEEBAgriFood studies suitable for actors and interested parties from the public and private sectors.
    Organize, prior to each meeting or workshop, a meeting with the TEEBAgriFood team to agree on dates, participants, and objectives; prepare supporting documents prior to meetings and workshops; moderate and facilitate meetings and workshops with relevant stakeholders; prepare meeting notes, summaries, and reports, containing visual or audiovisual materials, with contributions and comments from UNEP’s TEEBAgriFood team, with presentations and registration of participants.
    Apply the Four Capitals Approach in all activities included in this consultancy and make explicit aspects such as gender, health, education, environmental services, and biodiversity and the tradeoffs between them in the different scenarios.

    Qualifications/special skills

    A first level degree in Economics, Public Policy, Environmental Affairs, Development, or related areas is required.
    An advanced degree in economics, public policy, environmental affairs, development would be an added advantage.
    A minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience is required, such as liaison with agencies of the executive and legislative branches at the national and sub-national levels, and promotion of synergies and collaborative ties with relevant actors regarding the design and implementation of public politics
    Knowledge on issues of rural development and public policy in Mexico will be an advantage.

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral Spanish is required. Working knowledge of English is preferred.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Bring a community nutrition/public health lens to nutri-sensitive “Food Systems Transformation” approach applied by ICRISAT in project development, planning, and implementation.
    Provide support on technical issues related to health (i.e., malnutrition, anemia, lifestyle diseases etc.), nutrition, dietary behavior, agri-food environments towards promoting nutri-sensitive Food Systems /value chains, globally;
    Design and undertake dietary and nutrition assessments using mixed methods to support development of nutrition-specific/sensitive agricultural interventions for improving household diet quality and nutrition especially for women and children;
    Conduct research on issues associated with increasing consumption of grain legumes and dryland cereals, food and nutrition, dietary quality and dietary diversity;
    Implement community-based initiatives to increase awareness on linkages between agriculture, nutrition, hygiene, and health with emphasis on production, processing/cooking and consumption of safe and nutritious grain legumes, dryland cereals and oil seeds crops and other foods;
    Contribute to develop and implement monitoring/nutritional assessment (i.e., baseline, midline, endline anthropometry studies) and evaluation plans, sampling and study design, and analytical protocols for nutrition-specific/sensitive agricultural interventions;
    Closely collaborate with project partners to set up a behavior change communication (BCC) team in planning, implementing, and monitoring of nutrition activities and interventions;
    Contribute to research, and develop standards and guidelines for food safety and hygiene to ensure safety and hygiene across: production, transportation, storage and handling of raw materials and cooked/processed products, from the human health aspect;
    Develop, maintain and strengthen partnerships for research and development in agriculture, food and nutrition, postharvest and gender and youth programming aspects, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa;
    Contribute to the development of survey materials/ focus group discussions (FGDs), training materials, tools and facilitate capacity building on nutrition and improving household dietary diversity and resilience;
    Contribute to ICRISAT’s knowledge sharing and capacity strengthening activities with respect to ICRISAT’s ”Nutrition, Dietary Behavior and Smart Food” cluster initiatives, especially in SubSaharan Africa;
    Assist the Global Research Program Director – Enabling Systems Transformation, Regional Director, East and Southern Africa and Institute’s Leadership to mobilize new financial resources by way of externally funded nutrition related projects to sustain the Institute’s activities globally;
    Facilitate other ICRISAT scientists, project partners as well as donors and development partner visits to project sites;
    Build technical capacity in local communities to assist target project districts in developing an approach to guide the implementation of nutrition interventions. Mentor NARS, NGO scaling partner staff, and student interns in relevant areas of community nutrition research;
    Assist in writing high-quality peer reviewed articles and publish in high impact factor publications; Develop productive partnerships to further ICRISAT’s “Nutrition, Dietary Diversity and Smart Food” cluster” and its 3 Global Research Programs and actively participate in regional and international nutrition and health research communities and networks;
    Perform other related duties as assigned by the Cluster Leader for “Nutrition, Dietary Diversity and Smart Food” and immediate functional Supervisor.

    Program Specific Skills:

    Proven ability in using nutrition R&D tools and study designs to generate evidence for public health nutrition research and apply evidence-based nutrition interventions.
    Proven experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection, computation, and statistical analysis, preferably with a research and development organization implementing integrated agriculture-nutrition-health related projects.
    Knowledge and proven experience on undertaking anthropometric studies in children under 5 years old, as per WHO recommendations: organization of an anthropometric survey, field work procedures, data processing, quality assessment, analysis, and reporting, will be an added advantage.
    A good track record in achieving impact and producing high quality technical reports/publications.
    Experience in networking with multiple project partners in the field of nutrition and health. Ability to speak and write English fluently, with very good working knowledge of French will be desirable.
    A self-starter and ability to plan and work independently with minimal supervision.
    Possess demonstrated strategic thinking and time management skills.
    Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team in a multi-cultural environment and should be able to interact effectively with project partners and service providers.

    Requirements:

    A PhD in community nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, or related discipline from a recognized institution with a minimum of four (4) years working experience in international studies being desirable.
    At least five (5) years working experience in international agricultural or nutrition research with practical hands-on experience in community/public health etc. interventions.
    Experience in developing and implementing projects addressing malnutrition and anemia (especially among women and children in vulnerable communities) and lifestyle diseases through food/nutrition based approaches.
    Experience in ‘linking agriculture to nutrition and health’ is a distinct advantage.
    Experience in an international and multi-disciplinary/cultural environment is an asset.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES.

    In close consultation with the Evaluation Manager, the Evaluation Consultant will be responsible for the overall management of the Evaluation and timely provision of its outputs, data collection and analysis, and report writing. More specifically, the Evaluation Specialist will undertake the following:

    Inception phase of the Evaluation, including:

    preliminary desk review and introductory interviews with project staff;
    draft the reconstructed Theory of Change of the project;
    prepare the evaluation framework;
    develop the desk review and interview protocols;
    draft the survey protocols (if relevant);
    develop and present criteria for country and/or site selection for the evaluation mission;
    plan the evaluation schedule;
    prepare the Inception Report, incorporating comments until approved by the Evaluation Manager

    Data collection and analysis phase of the Evaluation, including:

    conduct further desk review and in-depth interviews with project implementing and executing agencies, project partners and project stakeholders;
    (where appropriate and agreed) conduct an evaluation mission(s) to selected countries, visit the project locations, interview project partners and stakeholders, including a good representation of local communities. Ensure independence of the Evaluation and confidentiality of evaluation interviews.
    regularly report back to the Evaluation Manager on progress and inform of any possible problems or issues encountered; and
    keep the Project/Task Manager informed of the evaluation progress.

    Reporting phase, including:

    draft the Main Evaluation Report, ensuring that the evaluation report is complete, coherent and consistent with the Evaluation Manager guidelines both in substance and style;
    liaise with the Evaluation Manager on comments received and finalize the Main Evaluation Report, ensuring that comments are taken into account until approved by the Evaluation Manager
    prepare a Response to Comments annex for the main report, listing those comments not accepted by the Evaluation Consultant and indicating the reason for the rejection; and
    (where agreed with the Evaluation Manager) prepare an Evaluation Brief (2-page summary of the evaluand and the key evaluation findings and lessons)

    Managing relations, including:

    maintain a positive relationship with evaluation stakeholders, ensuring that the evaluation process is as participatory as possible but at the same time maintains its independence;
    communicate in a timely manner with the Evaluation Office on any issues requiring its attention and intervention.
    The Evaluation Consultant shall have had no prior involvement in the formulation or implementation of the project and will be independent from the participating institutions. The consultant will sign the Evaluation Consultant Code of Conduct Agreement Form.
    The evaluation consultant will be selected and recruited by the UNEP Evaluation Office through an individual consultancy contract.
    Comprehensive terms of reference will be shared with the consultant separately.

    Qualifications/special skills

    A first level university degree in environmental sciences, international development or other relevant political or social sciences area is required and an advanced degree in the same areas is desirable.
    A minimum of 7 years of technical / evaluation experience is required preferably including evaluating large, regional or global programmes and using a Theory of Change approach.
    A good/broad understanding of illicit trade in wildlife legislations and policy, particularly in Africa, is desired.
    Working Knowledge of a development oriented organisation particularly in the UN System and specifically the work of UNEP is an added advantage.

    General Objectives and Responsibilities:
    Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Project Field Coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination of the project activities, including planning, implementation and monitoring of the activities in Mombasa and Kwale Counties, Kenya.     Main Duties:
    Coordination, planning and implementation

    Support the Project Manager in planning and scheduling all the project’s activities through the submission of regular work plans (including budget forecasts, travel plans etc.), ensuring quality of the implementation, and in compliance with the project design and timetable;
    Coordinate and directly supervise day-to-day activities related to field work implemented by both CEFA and partners, including baseline/endline surveys, studies and researches, mapping and capacity building of CSOs/CBOs, workshops on peacebuilding and human rights protection with relevant stakeholders and key community actors (security agencies, local authorities, religious leaders, educational officers), awareness raising sessions, peace awareness campaigns;
    Attend and organize weekly internal coordination meeting with field staff, and with partners, to plan future activities, discuss about the challenges and successes and share lessons learned;
    Assist the Project Manager in ensuring the project is given appropriate visibility in line with the EU Visibility Guidelines, and in drafting and disseminating comprehensive project visibility products;
    Submit a fund request for field activities to the Project Manager, according to the Financial SoPs of the project.
    Ensure that all project documents are available (attendance sheets, MoU, minutes of meetings, contracts and agreements, activity reports, supporting documents of the expenses etc.);
    Ensure that partner’s implementation is coordinated, monitored, and that implementing partners receive the necessary support.

    Monitoring and Reporting

    Support Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), and the project knowledge management, through data collection, Indicator Tracking Tool update, and regular reporting on project achievements (including documentation of success stories, best practices, and lessons learnt);
    Support the draft of reports to be submitted to the Donor, or official documentation to be submitted to local authorities and institutional stakeholders.

    Technical Assistance

    Provides technical assistance and capacity building to project staff on matters related to peacebuilding and prevention of conflicts, including: promotion of interreligious dialogue, prevention of identity-based or gender and sexual-based violence, countering violence and anti-social behaviors, human rights protection and promotion, Human Rights and Survivor-centered approaches, promotion of gender and youth-sensitive communication.
    Provides technical assistance and facilitates training sessions on capacity strengthening of CSOs and CBOs (including result-based project cycle management, proposal writing, financial management).
    Reviews/Prepares modules and learning materials for trainings and sensitization sessions
    Assist and facilitate ToTs to project staff and trainings to the project beneficiaries;
    Support the project staff (both CEFA and partners) in preparing/updating learning material and schedules and supervise training and awareness events;
    Supports the identification of new funding opportunities and the development of concept notes and full proposals.

    Synergies

    Liaise with local authorities and other stakeholders representing CEFA when requested.
    Builds strategic networks with actors in Kwale and Mombasa counties, including but not limited to local communities, key community actors (religious leaders, gate keepers, Human Rights Defenders), youth-led and women-led CSOs and CBOs, media actors, educational officers and schools management, institutional stakeholders, Local Authorities.
    Ensures quality, consistency, and synergies of all project components with project partners;
    Attend conferences, roundtables and other key fora which are relevant for the project.

    Conducts other activities in line with the profile and technical expertise, as required by the Project Manager.
    Qualifications, Skills and Experience
    Mandatory Requirements

    Proved working experience (at least 4 years) working in a similar position with local/international organizations, government and humanitarian sector;
    Proved experience coordinating consortium partners;
    Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline e.g. related to community development, social sciences, project management, international and human rights law;
    Excellent communication (writing and oral) skills and reporting skills in English;
    Excellent computer skills, MS Office, social media management;
    leadership skills, networking skills, ability to liaise with government, local authorities, private sector, donors, and civil society;
    organizational skills and ability to manage effectively multiple tasks;
    Ability to manage and monitor complex budgets;
    skills in MEAL, reporting, result-based project cycle management ;
    abide by and demonstrate adherence to NGO values, including integrity, honesty, professionalism, transparency, non-discrimination, inclusion and respect for diversity, as well as cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity.

    Desired Requirements

    Master’s degree in a relevant related field;
    Expertise in peacebuilding, prevention of identity-based violence, human rights, mentoring, capacity strengthening of and sub-granting to CSOs/CBOs;
    Previous working experience in the target areas, and with the targeted groups;
    Type B driving license.

    Responsibilities

    The selected interns are expected to undertake the following tasks:

    Follow up on actions related to the administration of the human resource activities, e.g., recruitment, placement, relocation, promotion, performance appraisal, job classification, reviews, separation, etc., ensuring consistency in the application of regulations and procedures.
    Perform a wide range of office support and administrative functions.
    Responds or drafts responses to routine correspondence and other communications; uses standard word processing package to produce a wide variety of large, complex documents and reports.
    Generates a variety of standard statistical and other reports, work orders, etc., using various databases.
    Proofreads documents and edits texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation and style, and for adherence to established standards for format.
    Assists in the maintenance of the Job Description database by scanning and posting onto the database
    Reviews, records, distributes and/or processes mail and other documents; follows-up on impending actions.
