    Overview

    MSH in Kenya seeks to recruit Consultant for a duration of two (2) weeks under the Primary Health Care (PHC) Costing Project.
    With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, MSH is developing a new tool and methodology for costing PHC services at the facility/community level and for grouping these costs into district and higher level PHC costs.
    The tool will be used by the Kenya Ministry of Health, the Division of Primary Health Care to develop an investment case and guide evidence-based planning and resource-mobilization for county-specific UHC scale-up plans in six counties (Nyeri, Mukueni, Kajiado, Isolo, Kisumu, and Kilifi). The tool will be open-source and a public good so counties will be able to access it easily and can view and change all elements of the tool as needed.
    The tool will be used to develop a model for a representative primary hospital, a health center, a dispensary and a community in each county. Each model will contain the actual services and costs for the most recently-completed fiscal year, which will serve as the baseline costs, and the services and costs for needs-based scaling up targets projected over 5 years. The normative list of services will be based on the KEPH; the target service utilization figures will be based on catchment populations and disease incidence rates and expected utilization rates; and the normative costs will be based on standard treatment protocols.

    Specific Responsibilities
    Description of services to be provided
    The objective of this consultancy is to validate the package of services and corresponding norms and standards for each service, more specifically:

    Review of the list of services included in PHC package by program area, level of care, and target population
    Assist with the collection of and analysis of normative data including service package review and standard treatment protocols
    Complete the expected utilization rate (incidence or prevalence rate, self-care percentage, market share for each service included in the package according to county data. E.g. HIV prevalence rate in Kisumu, public sector market shares in Isiolo, etc.
    Complete the standard treatment protocols for each service by level of care including staff time, medicines, laboratory/radiology tests, and other supplies
    Assist in conducting the MOH validation meetings

    Deliverables

    A master Normative List of Services with: target service utilization figures, disease incidence and prevalence rates and standard treatment protocols.

    Qualifications and Experience

    The ideal candidate should have a diploma in Clinical Medicine, Master’s in Medicine, Public Health or relevant field is an added advantage.
    She/he should have at least 7 years’ hands on experience in clinical management at both primary care levels in the Kenya public health sector. 
    She/he should have proven experience and understanding of the Kenya health policies and system, experience and understanding of working with the MOH.
    In addition, she/he should be proficient in relevant computer applications which includes word processing, databases and excel skills.  
    Demonstrable ability to generate technical reports in a timely manner.  
    The successful candidate needs to be a strong team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  
    She/he should work with minimal supervision with ability to work independently and in a team.

He/she will assist the CIP Nutrition Scientist to coordinate nutrition sensitive agricultural activities around biofortified orange-fleshed sweetpotato in selected counties and assist in designing, overseeing implementation of nutrition education, communication and behavior change activities in the OFSP value chains.
    Key responsibilities:

    The Position: The consultant will support the role of the Regional Communications Specialist to ensure continuous generation of content to highlight research for development work in SSA. He/she will follow through on communication related administrative tasks geared towards content generation and dissemination with colleagues and partners. Specific tasks will include support preparation of stories and communications about CIP and its research programs in Africa; producing short promotional videos based on interviews with key scientists; photography to capture and promote ongoing work as well as during project meetings; preparing social media posts for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram under the direction of the social media team based at CIP headquarters.
    Key responsibilities:

    Social media: Working closely with CIP’s social media managers based in Lima, generate, edit publish and schedule daily content (photos, videos, infographics) that increases share of voice and engagement across the region.
    Media: Media monitoring of CIP mentions/ relevant subjects in SSA and sharing/ repromoting content. Compile media briefs/ information packs with relevant content during media field tours. Logistical support during such tours.

    About the position:
    The Social Scientist will ensure that CIP’s ongoing and evolving research and development programs will apply methodologies and insight from qualitative social science, including gender research, so that they can contribute effectively to global development challenges. Secondly, the Social Scientist will ensure that this research is carried out at excellent standards, results in impactful publications, and can influence future research and policy design. The position will be part of CIP’s global Social and Nutrition Sciences Division and will work closely with scientists across disciplines and countries and with the CGIAR gender platform. The position at least initially has a focus on research programs in Africa and South Asia but is relevant for all of CIP’s programs. The position will report to one of CIP’s global program leaders and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
    Key responsibilities:

    Provide science leadership across CIP’s program portfolio for the application of qualitative social science to addressing strategic research questions related to human and institutional behavior change in the context of dietary, nutrition and agri-food systems transformation.
    Work closely with scientists and project teams to identify key social science research priorities in current and evolving projects and develop research strategies and plans for addressing these.
    Specifically, design and implement research on gender and social inclusion within the context of new and expanding technology development and delivery projects for sweetpotato and related agri-food systems and contribute significantly to the CGIAR gender platform.
    Produce peer-reviewed publications as lead author and contributing author in high quality journals, based on this research.
    Develop and manage productive research partnerships with universities and research institutes of international stature.
    Contribute to program reporting and communications with development partners to ensure that findings from qualitative social research help strengthen CIP’s credibility and influence.

    Who are we looking for?

    PhD in a relevant social science discipline with a strong focus on qualitative methodologies.
    Excellent and up-to-date understanding of qualitative research methods pertinent to the study of behavior change, gender, social inclusiveness, youth, risks and benefits from technology change, and institutional transformation.
    At least 5 years’ experience of leading qualitative social research in an international program environment, preferably within the agriculture, food or rural development sector.
    Strong understanding of the social, cultural and economic context of poverty, food insecurity, malnutrition, and social marginalization in Africa and South Asia.
    Excellent skills in research design, coordination of research teams, timely analysis, writing and presentation.
    Excellent track record of original research and peer-reviewed publications based on qualitative social science methodologies.
    Excellent leadership skills to promote effective collaboration within research teams and across research partnerships.
    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Proficiency in French or Spanish is an advantage.

    Position Overview:
    Pact Inc. Kenya Office is recruiting a Communication Officer for two of its European Union Trust Fund (EUTF) funded cross border projects. Through these two projects; Selam Ekisil (SEEK) which operates in the South-West Ethiopia and North-West Ethiopia and Regional Approaches for Sustainable Conflict Management and Integration (RASMI) which works in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia border, Pact adopts a conflict systems-based approach to address the multiple causes of conflict in cross-border areas and to promote peace building, conflict management, and conflict resolution capacity at the community and cross-border levels. Pact co-implements the two projects with seven other local consortium partners and this role will be required to bolster the communication capacity of these local partners with a view to enabling clearer, more coherent messaging across the implementation cycle. The ideal candidate for this role will excel at finding creative ways to tell stories and convey consistent messaging across the programs and have the technical skills to package and implement a mix of communication strategies. This is a 1-year role with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability.
    Specific objectives and activities for the position will include:

    Designing and delivering a comprehensive but practical communication platforms for SEEK and RASMI. This will involve working with the program teams to develop and implement communication and visibility strategies; developing audience maps, targeted contact databases, key messages-digital and non-digital channels, editing and packaging reports, communication templates, monitoring and evaluation of communication activities, and capacity building for RASMI and SEEK staff and partners. The successful candidate will have the freedom to design and deliver a workplan to build on the communications assets developed by RASMI and SEEK so far.
    Fostering a vibrant Working Group for communications. Pact intends to set up a community of practice for communications which will entail working with SEEK and RASMI partners. With guidance from the field Program Managers, the Communications Officer will galvanise the Working Group by injecting energy and ideas and formalising its ongoing modus operandi. The purpose is to share knowledge, strengthen the RASMI and SEEK communications team and provide a platform for communications training and mentoring.
    Developing and managing innovative tools and channels to capture and share RASMI and SEEK ideas and impact. This role will provide scope to strengthen existing and create new ways to measure and communicate the impact of RASMI and SEEK projects. Working closely with the Program and the Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning (MERL) teams, the communication Officer is expected to develop and come up with new ideas and innovation of how to reach the program stakeholders in all the operation countries. These new methods might include; visual presentation and storytelling, video diaries, human interest stories, info-graphics, podcast and blogs.

    Qualifications and experience required:
    To deliver these objectives and the associated scope of work, the Communication Officer must have proficient knowledge and experience in the following areas:

    Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, or related fields from a reputable university.
    Three years of experience in the field of communication and journalism.
    Understanding of media and corporate relations, and digital media strategies
    Outstanding command of the English language (written and spoken)
    Story development and writing for publications, social media channels and reports
