    Project Summary:

     
    The USAID/Kenya and East Africa Development Outreach and Communications Support Project, including a USAID Somalia Development Outreach and Communications support component, supports outreach to and communication with stakeholders within Kenya, East Africa, and Somalia on U.S. Government strategic objectives and impacts. This includes producing communications products and publications, supporting events management and interactive engagement opportunities, and contributing to the development of strategic communication strategies for the Kenya and East Africa Mission.

    Position Summary:

    The Communications Specialist – Social Media will participate in the full scope of strategic communication support tasks—including the development and production of information products and publications, event coverage, field work, photography, social media management, strategy development, videography and writing—with an emphasis on leading on social media issues. This position will report to the Chief of Party and work full-time at MSI’s Nairobi field office.

     

    Responsibilities:

    Produce content that adheres to USAID branding and style guidelines
    Interpret and tailor complex, technical content for different audiences
    Assign to staff and follow up on content development
    Ensure relevance of tone and of messages to programmatic priorities
    Manage partner-generated content
    Coordinate closely across the DOC, MSI teams and implementing partners
    Contribute to the professional presentation and execution of communications products and services
    Contribute to systems to track metrics/indicators
    Participate in and contribute to presentations, strategy and performance review meetings

    Social Media:

    Provide daily monitoring and management of platforms to flag any sensitive issues
    Adapt content to reflect local developmental realities in each different context the project supports activities
    Contribute to the development of social media messaging and toolkits with draft messages, corresponding links and appropriate images on a regular basis
    Schedule and post social media content according to the content calendar
    Make edits and secure approvals prior to publishing
    Solicit social media content on a regular basis from implementing partners
    Set up social media advertisements
    Repost upon request or cross-post flagship content across all platforms

    Media Monitoring and Press Relations:

    Review and analyze traditional and online media on a daily basis
    Identify and summarize relevant mentions in communications to the Mission
    Contribute to a monthly catalog of news stories that will be further analyzed by an independent media monitoring organization on a monthly and quarterly basis
    Facilitate travel, coverage, or otherwise liaise with journalists on site visits
    Engage in media calls and prepare/distribute press kits
    Update media contact lists after each event or site visit
    Prepare event specific media monitoring reports, on request, that synthesize journalist participation and press coverage

    Field Work:

    Review relevant reports, news articles, social media handles, and other online information to prepare for field work
    Draft and submit a short, pre-field brief that outlines sites to be visited, partner/travel contacts, potential interviewees and interview questions before travelling to the field
    Work with management and USAID to identify suggested partners, sites, or interviewees, particular angles and themes, relevant resource documents, timelines and final products
    Conduct interviews, take photos, videos, and otherwise support field work
    Work with other photographers and videographers to capture human interest stories
    Obtain signed digital consent from necessary parties, using the Easy Release mobile application
    Conduct reconnaissance on sites to determine and report its suitability for future events or stories
    After returning from the field, complete necessary uploads of high-quality photos, captions and metadata, raw audio files, field contacts
    Submit brief final trip report

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree required in relevant field, master’s preferred
    Minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in journalism or public relations required
    Demonstrated experience implementing communication strategies and outreach campaigns that successfully raise the profile of projects or commercial companies
    Work experience with non-governmental organizations, donors and/or mass media, and understanding of the international development space
    Demonstrated broad knowledge of digital (websites, social networking, email and blogging), photography and videography
    Experience in building the capacity of USAID projects on how to communicate and report their progress and successes is highly preferred
    In-depth understanding of Kenyan culture, geography and development issues
    Experience working and traveling in Kenya
    Ability to pitch and shape earned media opportunities
    Written and verbal fluency in English is required

    Technical Advisor

    The Technical Advisor (TA) provides assistance to MTaPS Country Director and Senior Technical Advisors in technical activities focusing on GHSA interventions in improving infection prevention and control (IPC), water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) and pharmacovigilance for safety monitoring. S/he supports in-country and regional teams in the design and implementation of technical activities ensuring their adequate contribution to MTaPS results. The TA is also responsible for the implementation and evaluation of those designated field activities such as development, deployment of tools/guidelines and implementation of county and facility based interventions. Under guidance from senior staff, s/he provides support to program quality reviews, activity reporting, and knowledge management activities. As required, other areas of work may include activities aimed at strengthening pharmaceutical systems, supply chain management or pharmaceutical services in developing countries. 

    Technical Support (40%)

    Participate in the coordination, design and implementation of technical assistance in support of MTaPS GHSA/IPC/WASH/AMS in the country
    Participate in the coordination, design and implementation of technical assistance in support of MTaPS IGAD/EAC pharmacovigilance (PV) activities.
    Conduct desk-based and/or field-based research and technical assistance activities including delivery of reports, papers, and training as designated by senior technical staff.
    Participate in the design and implementation of GHSA/IPC/AMS and PV field activities including the development of tools and implementation of data analysis plans; also assist in data interpretation and technical activity reporting.
    Participate in human resource capacity assessments in the health and pharmaceutical sector and collaborate with senior technical staff and the Capacity Building and Performance Improvement Unit in the development of capacity building and training materials.
    Support country activities under the guidance from the CPD and STA and in collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Unit, in the development and implementation of portfolio specific M&E plans.
    Participate in the review of designated program documentation and activity products ensuring quality of program deliverables.
    Participate in the development of communication materials, presentations, articles, concept papers, abstracts and posters in the context of knowledge management and participate in the presentation of these products to various audiences and forums.
    Provide writing and analytical assistance as needed to produce special thematic reports and/or technical briefs documents aimed for publication.
    Attend technical and brown bag informational meetings when required and prepare related briefs for senior technical staff.  Also, work occasionally with senior technical staff for developing MSH proposals and new assistance projects as needed.
    Participate in other duties, as assigned.

    Capacity Building (40%)

    Participate in human resource capacity assessments in the pharmaceutical sector and collaborate internally and externally to develop country-specific capacity building material, strategies and roll out plans in support of IPC AMS and PV.
    Support implementation of IPC and AMS capacity building materials, strategies and action plans at national and county levels.
    Assist Ministry of Health (MOH), AMR secretariat, Public Health Programs and County Health Management Teams to design and review AMR related policies, standards, guidelines, procedures and other relevant materials,
    Participate in the planning and delivery of Pharmaceutical system strengthening programs aimed at building the capacity of MOH, Public Health Programs, relevant regulatory authorities, professional associations and training institutions.
    Collaborate with stakeholders for the development, deployment and implementation of appropriate tools necessary to improve pharmaceutical management information systems and their appropriate use for decision making.

    Monitoring and Evaluation (20%)

    In coordination with the M&E team, support project for the establishment of mechanisms for collecting relevant data to their established indicators. Also participate in program review activities and provide adequate recommendations.
    Support project staff in the adequate documentation and dissemination of program results and lessons learned including the development and submission of abstracts and articles to scientific journals and conferences.

    Education

    Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field required.

    Experience

    Required:

    6 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 4 years of experience with a Master’s, and 2 years of experience with a Doctorate’s degree.
    Experience in international public health with a focus on strengthening health, pharmaceutical and pharmacovigilance systems in developing countries.
    Specialized training and/or practical experience related to infection control, including at the health facility level, and other areas of AMR containment such as WASH and antimicrobial stewardship.

     Preferred:

    Experience with programs supported by bilateral agencies such as USAID, CDC and international agencies such as the Global Fund, UNITAID, WHO and World Bank preferred.

    Knowledge and Skills

    Ability to write lucid technical reports and documents and to make presentations in English is required.
    Competence in use of word processing programs required, and experience with spreadsheets and database applications strongly preferred.
    Excellent writing and presentation skills in English are essential
    Proficiency in English and any other languages of other USAID-supported countries is desired.
    Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team spirit.

    MSF is launching the recruitment process for the position of Patient Support Education Counselling (PSEC) nurse for activities in Dagahaley camp in Dadaab, Kenya. For operational reasons, only candidates from the North East Region will be considered.

    The selected candidate will be reporting to the Nursing Team Supervisor. 

    Main Purpose

    Providing nursing care, treatment, patient education ,counselling and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population

    Accountabilities

     Knowing, promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respecting medical secrets and confidentiality at all times.
    Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations, and other medical procedures.
    Active participation in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
    As much as possible, develop individual PSEC plan
     Ensuring triage of patients in waiting areas, wards or during emergencies, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases, carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor when necessary
    Sending material to be sterilized and recuperates it from sterilization
    Carrying out admission, surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e. assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency situation or deterioration )
    Carrying and supervising administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participating in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed .
    Participating in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards without prior authorisation, etc.)
    Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
    Supervising and training nurse-aids, nutritional assistants, cleaners and other related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures

    MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

    Rapidly identify outpatients requiring urgent medical care and provides first aid and urgent referral if needed .
    Take and record vital signs (HR, RR, BP, Temp, Ht, Wt, BMI) of the patients and records this in the files.
    Check capillary blood glucose and urinalysis and record results in the patient files and updates the investigation results .
    Ensure the initial assessment of new patients is done in accordance with MSF guidelines .In NCD care this can be very detailed in the case of new diagnosis.
    Improve on the follow-up of the appointments, specialist referals and diagnostic tests. Provide patients support and education through individual and group sessions.
    Follow-up and adress adherence to medication and any challenges faced by the patient Provide medical and psychosocial support to ensure patients’ compliance and improve the outcome
    Make sure that the patient understands his/her treatment protocol.
    Ensure that the patient’s filing and registration aredone in a timely manner and patients’ files are updated with the relevant information
    Compile the individual data and the data of the cohort in a timely manner
    Working in good collaboration with the Secondary Health Care , Primary Health Care and Outreach teams.
    Ensure development and dissemination of adequate IEC/PSEC tools
    Contribute to the defaulter monitoring and tracing

    Requirements

    Education:     

    Essential recognized nurse diploma. Desirable Bachelor in Science of Nursing

    Experience:     

    Desirable 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGO’s. MSF experience is an asset.

    International Potato Centre (CIP) is implementing the Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) Compact, financed through a grant from the African Development Bank toward the cost of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) Program and intends to apply part of the proceeds for this grant to facilitate payment for a consultant- Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) Technology Transfer Officer.

    Qualifications & Requirements:

    Education    

    Degree in Medicine or other Paramedical Studies/ Diploma in Para Medical Studies with extensive training/experience in management.

    Must have a Valid Practicing License and registration

    Experience    

    At least two years of relevant experience in a similar/other medical management positions.
    Desirable previous experience in MSF or other NGOs in developing countries.

    Pact Kenya is currently implementing the Regional Approaches for Sustainable Conflict Management and Integration (RASMI) and Selam Ekisil (SEEK) cross-border programs funded by the European Union Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF). The projects adopt a conflict systems-based approach to promote peacebuilding, conflict management, and conflict resolution capacity at the community and cross-border levels. Geographically, RASMI works in three strategic cross border conflict systems spanning three countries, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia (the Mandera Triangle) while, SEEK works in four cross-border conflict systems spanning Kenya (Marsabit and Turkana) and Ethiopia (South Omo Zone).

    The Program

    Pact in Kenya is leading a consortium comprising local and international development organizations to bid for the anticipated UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Kenya Devolution Programme (KDP). The 4-5 year programme, which is projected to start in early 2021, has an overall goal of enabling Kenyan county governments and citizens to meet the challenges and opportunities of devolution. The expected outcomes at the end of the programme are: i) more effective, open and accountable county governments and ii) improved service delivery to citizens and poverty reduction at county level.     Pact in Kenya seeks to recruit a qualified and experienced team leader for the KDP.

    Job Summary:

    The Team Leader will provide technical leadership and management to the KDP. S/he will be the project focal person for all communication and engagement with FCDO. Specifically, the jobholder will provide sound project planning and management, manage and track all terms of the sub agreements with Consortium partners. S/he will lead stakeholder engagement with FCDO, National and respective County Governments. The Team Leader will foster a positive and collaborative relationship with the Council of Governors (COG), Regional Economic Blocks, Ministry of Devolution and ASAL (MODA), Sector Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), target county governments, multilateral organizations collaborating in KDP and host communities. S/he will lead and provide oversight for sound financial management, timely and quality reporting to FCDO and relevant line ministries/department/counties. S/He will be responsible for oversight and sound grant management of downstream Civil Society Organizations (CSO) at the county level. The incumbent will lead and manage diverse consortium workforce that includes; local and international senior management; technical advisors, staff and consultants. The Team Leader will be expected to ensure compliance with all internal and donor programme management requirements and in particular VFM and anti-fraud policies of FCDO.

    Job Specifications:

    A post graduate qualification in public policy and administration, international development, or any other relevant qualification.
    Extensive experience with devolution and decentralization in Kenya or a similar context.
    Experience in governance, political economy and public policy issues on devolution including wide experience partnering with a range of government and non-governmental organizations to work on devolution, public expenditure management and inter-governmental relations
    Good understanding of the functioning of national and devolved governments, civil societies and how they interface with host communities.
    Knowledge of the political, social, and economic context in Kenya and ability to adapt programming to leverage opportunities and avert risks.
    At-least 10 years’ experience leading and managing complex multi-year governance programme grants in Kenya. Experience managing FCDO (DfID) funded programmes and applying an integrated approach to development programming will be added advantages.
    Over 12 years cumulative experience working with INGOs and/or other development agencies, including managing local and international consortium partners.
    Excellent relations with senior government officials at county and national level, donors, development partners and host communities.

    Research Associate – Agronomist and Nursery Data Analyst Consultant

    The Position: The Research Associate will be expected to support in leading field activities with partners to support potato seed system development and potato production. Focus areas include apical cuttings and new varieties of potato, and technically backstopping nurseries and seed business producing and using apical cuttings, respectively. The Research Associate is to have expertise in potato agronomy, seed production and nursery management to produce apical cuttings. Maintaining partnerships in all activities is key applying to all responsibilities.

    This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and report to the Senior Scientist.

    Key responsibilities:

    Coordinate field activities for potato seed system development with focus on apical cuttings and new varieties
    Conduct capacity building interventions for seed multipliers, farmers, partners, private sector enterprises;
    Coordinate and support planning and delivery of field days and training sites managed by partners.
    Provide technical backstopping to nursery operators producing apical cuttings and seed producers producing seed from cuttings
    Work with partner to coordinate and monitor activities, such as extension training of trainers followed by farmer training, and monitor collection of all event and field data.
    Produce progress report of the field activities including maintaining database of monitoring data and managing and analyzing technical and economic data.

    Requirements

    Minimum MSc degree in Agronomy, Agribusiness, Agricultural Development, or a related field;
    At least six years’ experience in agriculture in general of which 3 years working with potato, of which at least 2 years with differing classes of seed potato.
    Excellent skills in managing partnerships with senior level officials to farmers
    Excellent knowledge and experience in supporting nurseries to produce apical cuttings of potato
    Excellent knowledge and experience in supporting seed businesses to produce seed potato from apical cuttings
    Excellent skills in coordinating and monitoring large scale agricultural training programs with several partners
    Collecting diverse kinds of data form all activities
    Excellent data analysis, synthesis and report writing skills
    Advanced level of MS Office.

    Position Overview

    The COP will provide technical leadership and operational oversight for the project and will serve as the primary liaison with USAID and relevant project stakeholders. The COP will nurture a diverse and mission-driven project team to extend access to justice services in communities across Somalia.

    Key Responsibilities

    Ensure high-quality programming and provide hands-on guidance and support to project staff and partners in order to meet or exceed technical, project management, and reporting requirements.
    Manage all project planning responsibilities, including the production of annual workplans.
    Oversee the implementation of a set of processes for ensuring the adaptive management of project activities, including ongoing Applied Political Economy Analysis (APEA) and regular collaborating, learning, and adapting (CLA) learning reviews.
    To support the overall adaptive management approach, ensure that the project regularly generates applied analysis and research and ensure that the project M&E systems generates up-to-date information regarding emergent outcomes.
    Guide and oversee the alignment of the budget to expected results, as well as review and approve annual budgets and quarterly reports.
    Oversee and refine over time EAJ’s stabilization strategy, aimed at supporting justice-focused interventions in “early recover” communities.
    Participate in the technical and programmatic design of sub-awards to local partners.
    Ensure the cost-effective use of project resources.
    Ensure compliance with Pact HQ and USAID requirements, policies, and regulations.
    Act as a liaison to relevant donors and government officials.
    As relevant, manage all local grantmaking mechanisms, ensuring compliance with donor regulations and Pact policies; coordinate and/or conduct monitoring visits to grantee programs.
    Recruit and directly supervise local project staff in line with Pact human resource (HR) policies.

    Basic Requirements

    Minimum ten (10) years of experience working on democracy and governance programming in developing countries, with experience in rule of law, civil society, institutional development or directly related technical areas.     Start date: Immediately
    Length of contract: Fixed term (1 year) 100% with 3 to 6 months’ probation period

    Main Purpose:

    Carrying out tasks of checking, recording and storing as well as preparing goods to be sent, according MSF standards and procedures and the storekeeper’s instructions, in order to ensure proper orders’ reception and dispatch.

    Other tasks include, but not limited to:

    Receiving goods arriving to the warehouse, checking its status/condition and amounts against the waybill(s).
    Preparing outgoing items in a clean and optimized way by appropriately packing, sealing and labeling goods, assisting with recording the exits on stock cards and project form, and ensuring good quality of cold chain when needed.
    Ensuring that goods are well organized and stored in a clean area to be visible and traceable i.e. assisting in stock inventory, storing items according to nature and use, and ensuring that warehouse temperature is appropriate and items that require cold chain are correctly stored.
    Carrying out basic maintenance of the warehuse, ensuring security conditions (keeping unauthorized staff out, locking, etc….).
    Ensuring cleanliness of common working areas and proper use, storage and maintenance of equipment and tools provided.
    Informing superiors of any incident that may occur in the course of his/her work.
    Work closely with the Store Keeper under the guidance of the Warehouse supervisor during stock requests, stock counts and dispatch preparations.
    Ensure Unifield software has correct information of project stocks at all times.
    Perform any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the Supervisor.

    Education

    Essential: Certificate/Diploma in warehousing/stock management/Logistics/Supply Chain

    Experience

    Essential: 1 year previous experience as a storekeeper assistant.
