    Key Responsibilities:

    Tissue culture activities involving: Media preparation for in-vitro cultures, surface sterilization of plants, and introduction of in vitro plant materials.
    In vitro seed establishment for potatoes, planting and maintaining plant materials in the growth rooms.
    Isolation of protoplasts and regeneration of plants under appropriate media
    Maintenance of transgenic and non-transgenic lines in the growth rooms, and screening of transgenic plants in the glass house.
    Tuber seed production in the glass house.
    Recording of daily laboratory activities in the lab notebook.
    Ensure plant care in the growth chambers, screen house, and glasshouse. 

    Requirements
    What are we looking for?

    Diploma in Plant Tissue Culture, Science Laboratory Technical Training, or related qualification
    At Least 5 years of practical experience in plant tissue culture preferably with roots, tubers, or banana plants
    Experience in protoplast isolation, regeneration, and microscopy is an added advantage.

    Field Communications Officer

    MSF in Kenya is looking to fill the position of an Intersectional Field Communications Officer based in Nairobi but with frequent visits to the projects in and outside Nairobi. MSF mission to Kenya has moved towards increased community engagement. With this,there is need for reinforcement of content production capabilities at the project level to engage with local communities as well as online supporters, while increasing visibility of the MSF projects, acceptance and leverage of MSF inside the country. The successful candidate reports to the Field Communications Manager.

    The objective of the Position:

    The field communications officer (FCO) plays a key role to define, implement, coordinate and supervise operational audio visual content production strategy and activities according to MSF standards in the mission and during emergencies. The FCO contributes to the implementation of operational communication strategy in the mission according to MSF standards; focusing on multi-media content production, and diffusion while providing editorial support and advice on producing video and multimedia content including work on posters, brochures, testimonies, quotes, and written/printed content with the projects.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    Content Production

    Under the guidance of the field communications manager (FCM), the FCO collects and supervises the production of local communication tools and products (videos, leaflets, brochures, posters, radio spots, articles, photos, soundbites) according to local strategy and budget. He/she will help identify the right content and will adapt/translate communications materials to targeted local audiences.
    Travels to MSF projects to identify stories and produce engaging digital content; provides editorial support and advice on producing video and multimedia content to the projects
    Suggests innovations for content creation and audience growth for MSF Kenya social media accounts, in collaboration with MSF and the East Africa Section digital media teams.
    Advises on which communications tools to choose according to objective, message and audience at local and national levels. He/she then produces – or supervises the production of – audiovisual content (videos, social media content, publicity materials, soundbites etc)
    Helps producing communications content by providing data, information, quotes, testimonies, pictures, videos and other means for national and international media.
    Tracks and archives communications production on the country to build institutional memory.
    Shoot, produce, and edit compelling video and multimedia content
    Commissions freelancers and external production companies to produce video/ multimedia content
    Be the technical focal point for the operation of a range AV equipment and software

    Content Diffusion

    The FCO actively diffuses MSF content in the country in local languages, and among local media in collaboration with the MSF Eastern Africa Communications media and digital teams. He/ she coordinates the use of innovative digital media (twitter, blogs, Facebook) to promote this content while offering the same support to the projects. Under the supervision of the FCM, the FCO identifies communications opportunities using MSF communications network production

    Internal Communication

    The FCO will help in promoting content collection from project level for MSF internal communications and conduct basic content collection training for key staff in the projects. If need be he/ she can edit the production of internal communication tools (newsletter, etc.) under the supervision of the FCM.
    Act as back-up for the FCM during field visits and holidays. Assists with the organization of communications events, and their coverage on digital/social media.
    Close liaison with MSF communications colleagues and other digital and video production teams

    Requirements:
    Education

    Degree/Diploma in Communication or related studies with a background in collecting audio visual content.

    Knowledge & Experience

    Essential: previous working experience of at least two years in communications content production; videography, photography and digital production. Experience with editing and graphic design tools (Adobe Premier, Canva…) and mobile journalism equipment and techniques. Knowledge of AV production and video producing compressing techniques for web use. Computer literacy (word, excel and internet).
    Desirable: Experience of producing strong multimedia content that tells compelling stories, with a background in either charity, broadcast/digital journalism, or agency production, preferably within Kenya. Understands strategy, has digital content production skills, own account to show that they can produce interactive content. Have strong examples of recent work which includes producing engaging content for digital media platforms

    Rationale/Objective for Position

    The Humanitarian Access and Security Analyst in collaboration with the Head of the ASA Unit will be responsible for developing the MSF EA Humanitarian Access and Security policy, framework, protocols and templates in line with MSF’s strategy and humanitarian principles.
    The job holder is also responsible for capacity-building; and strengthening learning and development to achieve a holistic and inclusive management strategy for humanitarian access, safety, and security.

    Tasks & Responsibilities
    Humanitarian Access Management:

    Support MSF missions/projects working in the region by evaluating access constraints and developing access-specific strategies.
    Closely monitor contextual developments and map key crisis drivers (deteriorating factors, structural inequalities, response trends, access issues) at local, national, and regional level to contextualize security and humanitarian access constraints.
    Generate and disseminate regular humanitarian access and security analysis reports of the most recent trends and relevant information in a concise and engaging way, focusing on contextual dynamics in the region and country-specific.
    Develop and promote a conflict-sensitive mapping and response mechanism, build capacity of field teams on conflict sensitivity principles, analysis and reporting.

    In collaboration with the Head of the ASA Unit, Training and Learning Unit and other peers in the MSF movement, develop/review training modules, and plan and facilitate Humanitarian Access, Safety and Security trainings.
    Conduct training with exercises and simulations for the EA Critical Incident Management Team (CIMT).
    Implement strategies to enhance safety and security culture at all levels.

    Critical Incident Management:

    In collaboration with the Head of the ASA unit, develop and organize a solid critical incident management protocol for EA Critical Incident Management Team and Field Incident Management Team.
    Regularly review critical incident management protocol requirements and ensure that these are functioning properly including but not limited a dedicated room, equipment, refresher SILT/CIM training and action plan follow-up.

    Partnership and External Representation:

    Engage with partners to share capacity, capability, and experience pertaining to humanitarian access and security in the region.
    Liaise with peers and actively participate in meetings at relevant humanitarian fora, including the MSF Intersection/Security/Access meetings, NGO Security Focal Points, INSO, NGO Forums at the regional level.

    Other Responsibilities

    Lead Security Advisory in the Critical Management Team in the absence of the Access and Security Unit Lead.

    Qualifications
    Education

    A Bachelor’s degree in Management, Political Sciences, Safety or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
    Technical degree or certification in a related field with significant applicable experience.
    Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required. Portuguese/Italian/Spanish is a plus.

    Experience

    At least seven (7) years of non-profit NGO work experience within international humanitarian assistance programs with demonstrated capabilities in planning, organizing, and executing humanitarian operations safely in the Field.

    Objective of the Position:

    Defining, coordinating and monitoring the hospital medical activities under his/her responsibility according to MSF and MOH standards and values,to the MTL instructions, in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients and their communities, as well as to improve the health condition of the Homa Bay County population in relation to chronic and infectious deseases (advanced HIV), palliative care.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Define, plan and organize the setup, sizing and resources for the hospital in order to efficiently maintain the continuity of quality of healthcare,ensuring inter-departmental coordination with medical team managers and all hospital related activities.
    This includes the OPD Triage, IPD, Post Discharge Clinic, and Kaposi Sarcoma Treatment Unit.
    In close collaboration with the medical departments of the hospital, and the MoH standard operating procedures to ensure congruity, coordinate and supervise the implementation of the healthcare protocols, procedures and standards, to ensure the quality of medical activities in the health structure and that security and asepsis rules are followed by the medical personnel.

    In close collaboration with the line manager (MTL), participate to the preparation of the medical budget and orders needed to implement the medical activities under his/her responsibility.
    In close collaboration with the HR Department, plan and supervise the human resources processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal communication) of the medical departments/services of the hospital in order to ensure both the appropriate sizing and the amount of knowledge required, and improve people capabilities, contribution and active participation.
    Ensure, in cooperation with the logistics team, that all hospital staff has the material and technical logistics support needed.
    In collaboration with the HR department, implement the MSF health policy in order to ensure hospital staff’s safety, providing all prophylactic and preventive measures as well as emergency plans.
    Oversee the rational use of medications, particularly antibiotics, ensure efficient use, availability and good storage conditions of drugs and medical equipment for nursing and medical activities, report to MTL in case of any discrepancies: this includes follow-up of the consumption analysis, review of the standard lists, clinical (therapeutics) stewardship to ensure safe and appropriate pharmaceutical practices.
    Ensure that all administrative procedures regarding the hospital are duly followed; including the proper and efficient use of hospital documents (i.e. discharge paper, transfer paper, etc.).
    In collaboration with the Data Manager, ensure all the relevant data and statistics is complete and accurately filled, and participates in the monthly, quarterly and yearly reports.

    Requirements:
    Education

    Essential: Diploma/Degree in Medicine.
    Duly registered with the Kenyan Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council and active licence.

    Experience

    Essential: minimum 5 years’ experience as a medical doctor in similar settings.

    Overall, the Head of Field ICT oversees the implementation and support of ICT infrastructure (inc. telecom) / information systems for the MSF OCBA field programmes, ensuring availability of the necessary tools for their operation, actively looking for synergies between Field and HQ, guaranteeing an optimal development of processes contributing to the efficiency and quality of the organization.     SELECTION CRITERIA

    University degree in a relevant field (Electrical/Telecom Engineering, Computer Science, etc.), or equivalent work experience.
    Minimum experience of 7 years working in ICT, of which at least 3 coordinating projects, teams and/or services.
    Previous experience with MSF is required, either working with Field ICT services / technologies, or as field IT Officer and/or Logistics Coordinator.
    Relevant knowledge of digital workplace (user devices & services) and ICT infrastructure, including concepts of telecom, is mandatorily required for this position.
    Oriented to service provision and management, with a focus on the benefits that technology can bring to our humanitarian social mission.

    Carrying out a functional evaluation of the supply chain set-up, assessing the applicable technical systems, structures and HR set-up, the compliance with procedures, policies and guidelines, within the framework of MSF standards in order to identify the main areas for improvement.
    Assessing and validating local suppliers and local (sub-) contractors for quality of materials, systems, parts, etc. to ensure compliance with MSF quality standards.
    Developing and initiating the implementation of the improvement plan based on the recommendations arising from the functional evaluation.

    RESPONSABILITIES AND MAIN FUNCTIONS
    Field support

    The Mobile Support Technician Supply gives support to missions, based on visits at location, of typically between 2 weeks and 2 months duration. For each visit, the exact support needs from a mission will be discussed between Supply Referent, Logistic Advisor of the operational cell, Logistical Co-ordinator and Supply Responsible in the mission, and the Mobile Support Technician Supply him/herself, and will be agreed based on a “Terms of Reference” (ToR) document.
    In terms of processes, the scope of Mobile Support Technician Supply support includes the entire supply chain, excluding medical stock/pharmacy management. Example processes: local procurement, local & international purchase order management, (mission internal) replenishment order management, transport management & documentation, logistical stock management, (pre-) customs clearance.
    In terms of supply chain enablers, the scope of Mobile Support Technician Supply support includes organizational set-up of supply teams, guidelines & procedures, supply chain systems (e.g. Log7 and Portal European Supply Centre), warehousing structures and systems, performance management and supply chain follow-up.
    In terms of types of support, the scope of Mobile Support Technician Supply support includes (but other types of support can be agreed in ToR): training, optimization of supply chain processes and/or set-up in mission, guidance in market assessment and procurement activities, evaluations of supply organization, audit/assessment of supply chain procedures and execution, evaluation of supply chain/warehousing structures and set-ups, and/or advising Mission Co-ordination Teams regarding way forward for their supply chain.
    In terms of deliverables, the Mobile Support Technician Supply provides at the end of a visit: visit report (including evaluation according to standardized evaluation format and action list for way forward), and any other deliverables agreed. He/she will provide these deliverables to the mission, and discuss with Mission Co-ordination Team, Logistic Advisor at cell level, and Supply Referent.

    Optimization of the MSF OCBA supply chain

    A limited amount of time (max 25%) the Mobile Support Technician Supply will dedicate to specific improvement/development projects for the MSF OCBA supply in general (so mission-independent). Projects can vary from process improvements, procedures and guidelines, training material etc.

    Collaboration

    Collaboration with other colleagues in Supply Chain unit regarding supply chain optimization, and mission-specific priority setting.
    Collaboration with colleagues from operations regarding field support: Supply Responsibles, Logistical (and for specific topics Medical and Financial) Co-ordinators (all at mission level), Logistical (and for specific topics) Medical, Financial Advisors at cell level.
    To lesser extent, but can be relevant: collaboration with colleagues from other functional departments/units (medical, logistical, finance) or European/Regional supply centers regarding collaborative topics

    SELECTION CRITERIA

    Education and experience.
    Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering or similar
    Minimum 3 years’ experience in supply chain management.
    Asset: experience in humanitarian sector/MSF.
    Fluent written and spoken English and French. Additionally Spanish and/or Arab would be an asset.
    Experience leading, coaching or working with teams in some remote, or security tight context to achieve desired results.
    Good understanding of computers and new technologies.
    Excellent oral and written communication to motivate and influence the teams.

    Other

    Willingness to travel at short notice, to whatever context MSF is working in. Mission visits not exceeding 2 months in principle.

    OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Technical Director (supply chain management) will be the lead specialist for the strengthening of procurement planning and management systems, logistics management information systems, warehousing, and distribution capacity. They will also support the development of public sector capacity in supply chain management including capacity building of national indigenous institutions.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    Develop of work plans and budgets as they relate to supply chain management and or capacity building.
    Update and implement the annual work plan and budget, as necessary.
    Provide necessary technical assistance to strengthen supply chain management systems.
    Maintain close liaison and coordination with senior officials in the MOH (Ministry of Health) to ensure activities related to technical assistance are done with their active participation for building ownership.
    Closely work with the Chief of Party to ensure defined technical work plans are being implemented in a timely and technically sound manner, and productively leverage collaboration with key government and other stakeholders and partners.
    Design, implement, and monitor capacity building activities for the MOH to improve knowledge and skills in supply chain management.
    Lead development of training strategies and plans for national and regional level supply chain management system implementation activities, in collaboration with relevant team members and partners.
    Work closely with the Director of Finance and Administration to develop and monitor appropriate/adequate budgets to support technical activities.
    Develop of regular quarterly and semi-annual reports on workplan activities for USAID/Kenya, and in any other reporting requirements.
    Make regular presentations of results and progress to stakeholders.
    Facilitate work of external consultants as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Advanced Degree in supply chain management, logistics management, transportation management   or other related discipline.
    At least seven (8) years progressively responsible experience in pharmaceutical supply chains in Kenya.
    Significant experience in supply chain management of pharmaceutical commodities.
    Significant experience in designing a system strategy which includes end-to-end systems visibility, system integrations, interoperability, and knowledge of GS1.
    Significant experience in pharmaceutical supply chains including procurement, customs clearance, warehousing, and distribution. As well as a combination of the following: Fourth party logistics (4PL), and third-party logistics (3PL), including experience with information management systems such as Electronic Logistics Management Information Systems (eLMIS), WWMS (Warehouse Management System) Transport Management Systems (TMS) software.
    Significant experience in international public health with at least three years’ experience related to supply chain strengthening, preferably in work funded by USAID (US Agency for International Development).
    Strong knowledge and understanding of health management systems of developing countries preferably African countries.
    Previous experience in developing training materials and the delivery of training sessions.
    Experience working with the MOH and national level organizations.
    Strong project management and communication skills.
    Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
    Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff, clients and consultants, sound judgment and communication skills.
    Strong aptitude for data analysis and reporting.
    English fluency required including speaking, writing, and reading; additional proficiency in Swahili a plus.
    Ability to travel for extended periods of time in-country to support technical activities.

    Objective of the Position:

    Assist in identifying and validating sources of logistic items in terms of quality, check the quality of the logistic items at the reception or delivery at the KSU warehouses, perform the quality control assessment based on the defined product specifications and maintain or further develop the data base management for the KSU’s ERP system and MSF’s online catalogue.

    Tasks & Responsibilities:

    Support the Product Referent in researching for new suppliers/manufacturers to source a wide range of logistic products based on the sourcing strategy defined by his/her manager
    Support the Product Referent in visiting the newly identified or validated suppliers/manufacturers for assessing the quality of their products including to obtain all the necessary documents for further quality assessment.
    Support the Product Referent in establishing the MSF’s East Africa standard for certain logistic products in term of quality assurance.
    Communicating with suppliers/manufacturers in order to obtain the product spefications for quality assessment, KSU’s ERP database, and MSF’s online catalogue.
    Performing the data entry of logistic product information in the KSU’s ERP system as well as in the MSF online catalogue

    Assist the Product Referent to check the quality of the logistic product ordered at the time of delivery at the KSU’s warehouse
    Establishing a digital library of the sourced or validated logistic products with all the relevant documents regarding the quality.
    Assisting the Product Referent to further enlarge and maintain the network with MSF stakeholders, other humanitarian actors and suppliers/manufacturers.
    Ensuring timely reporting on the daily or weekly progress and performing any other task assigned by his/her manager.

    Qualifications & Requirements:
    Education

    Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related engineering field (preferably water and sanitation, and civil engineering).

    Experience

    At least 2 years’ experience in technical sales and sourcing

    Skills/ Competences

    Technical knowledge of products, sourcing, research and analysis of technical information, product database management and information management, computer literacy

    Added Value 

    Familiar with procurement process and market knowledge is an added value. Humanitarian field experience is an asset.

    Language:

    Proficiency in written and oral English & Swahili. French is an added value.
