    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Village Enterprise’s Vice President of Partnerships, will play an essential role in the Development team as a leader responsible for implementing the organization’s fundraising strategy. The Development team’s institutional fundraising efforts globally are co-led by this position and Village Enterprise’s Vice President for Development (VPD, based in Washington DC, USA). 
    The US-based VPD is ultimately accountable for meeting the Development team’s targets; as such, this role will report into the VPD and work closely with the Director of Business Development (based in Nairobi) and the Director of Grants (based in the US) to achieve targets.
    The VPP will be accountable for implementing the fundraising strategy within Africa to develop revenue streams with funders based in the region, including bi- and multi-lateral funders, in alignment with organization’s long-term vision for growth and sustainability. 
    The VPP is a strategic thinker who is able to position Village Enterprise with future funders and implementing partners and forge impactful collaborations that propel the organization towards unprecedented success.
    Experience working within the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), particularly understanding USAID’s funding processes and key decision makers in the region, is valuable and preferred for this role.     KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The VPP will contribute to Village Enterprise’s multi-year fundraising target, working 1) with the VPP to set targets and 2) with the Development team to develop pathways to achieve these targets. This role reports to the US-based VPD and directly manages a Director of Business Development.  As a member of the Village Enterprise team, you will be consistently guided by our 5 core values of Ubuntu, Passion, Sustainability, Innovation, and Integrity.  

    Fundraising Strategy:

    In close collaboration with the VPD, set and implement institutional fundraising targets, annual Key Performance Indicators, and quarterly Objectives and Key Results that are in line with the Development Team’s overall targets and Village Enterprise’s organizational strategy to scale through partnerships.

    Business Development:

    Lead prospecting within the Development team for funding and partnership opportunities across sub-Saharan Africa, and particularly East Africa, to map strategic pathways for achieving growth through the organizational strategy.
    Serve as the lead in Africa within the Development Team for strategically aligning programmatic needs with funding opportunities by maintaining a keen awareness of programming developments in alignment with Village Enterprise’s Programs Team.
    Leverage formal (e.g. multi and bi-lateral funding platforms) and informal means (e.g. strong networks with donor and non-profit partners) to track and assess funding opportunities across priority geographies in Africa. 

    Partnership Cultivation: 

    Build and cultivate new partnerships that will drive scale of Village Enterprise’s model through direct implementation and technical assistance.
    Identify and embed yourself in key networks operating in priority geographies and thematic areas to represent Village Enterprise as a best-in-class implementer and trusted partner.
    Nurture existing partnerships through consistent engagements to provide timely updates on developments at Village Enterprise that cultivate deeper trust and open pathways to secure additional funding. 
    Serve as the face of Village Enterprise’s Development team at key fora, conferences, workshops, and working group meetings. 

    Proposal Development:

    Lead complex proposal development processes and writing of proposals for all fundraising opportunities where the funding originates from African based funders, including country and regional offices/missions of bi-laterals, multi-laterals, corporations, or foundations. 
    Coordinate project design for funding opportunities based in Africa, including working closely with Village Enterprise (and consortium partners as appropriate) Country Directors, other program staff, M&E staff, and finance staff.
    Oversee management of proposal development timelines to ensure internal alignment of relevant team members and coordination with external partners (in the case of consortiums) such that high quality, competitive proposals are developed in a timely manner. 
    In the case of a consortium, serve as the central liaison for consortium partners and nurture relationships in the strategic interests of Village Enterprise. 

    KEY CAPABILITIES
    Essential:

    7-10 year track record in raising funds from institutions (bi-laterals, multi-laterals, foundations, etc.)
    Experience fundraising in East Africa, preferable across multiple Village Enterprise geographies
    Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to collaborate with a culturally and geographically diverse team
    Existing donor and non-profit networks in East Africa
    Desire, drive and ability to be an ambassador for the mission and work of Village Enterprise

    Desirable:

    Experience leading consortium and complex proposals that have resulted in securing multi-millions USD in funding

    Program Implementation

    Map key donors and implementation partners in priority countries where Village Enterprise does not have a presence
    Research and monitor bi and multi-lateral trends across priority geographies and thematic areas
    Use formal (e.g. multi and bi-lateral funding platforms) and informal means (e.g. strong networks with donor and non-profit partners) to track current and pipeline funding opportunities across Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and other priority geographies in Africa
    Track and update all Africa based opportunities in Salesforce
    Develop prospect profiles for Africa-based restricted funders, including bi/multi-lateral African offices

     

    Build and cultivate partnerships and networks in Africa:

    Identify champions within African based current and potential and current partners (including donors and non-profit partners) and support Village Enterprise to build authentic relationships – both where you hold the relationship and where you support others to hold the relationship (e.g. Country Directors, Chief Strategy & Partnerships Officer)
    Identify key networks operating in priority geographies and thematic areas and both represent Village Enterprise and coordinate and support other Village Enterprise representatives as needed (e.g. Country Directors)
    Build and manage engagement plans for priority funders/partners based in Africa
    Coordinate African conference attendance and preparation
    Coordinate with Country Directors and relevant members of the Programmes team to prepare for and support funder visits to the field

    Develop fundraising proposals and reports:

    Coordinate project design for funding opportunities based in Africa, including working closely with Village Enterprise (and consortium partners as appropriate) Country Directors, other program staff, M&E staff, and finance staff
    Lead proposal development and writing of proposals and reports for fundraising opportunities where the funding is coming from an African based office/mission/partner (e.g. USAID Kenya, but USAID DC would be led by the Director of Grants)
    Support proposal development and writing of proposals for fundraising opportunities where the funding comes from outside Africa, in conjunction with the Director of Grants and Senior Grants Manager

    Processes and Systems:

    Complete all Village Enterprise processes (including opportunity details form, Go/No Go process, Salesforce entries etc.) for all funding opportunities based in Africa
    Coordinate with Finance to track grant disbursements
    Monitor proposal and reporting timelines using Salesforce

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Essential:

    4-7 years’ track record in raising funds from institutions (bi-laterals, multi-laterals, foundations etc)
    Experience fundraising in East Africa, preferable across multiple Village Enterprise geographies
    Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to collaborate with a culturally and geographically diverse team
    Existing donor and non-profit networks in East Africa
    Desire, drive and ability to be an ambassador for the mission and work of Village Enterprise

    Desirable:

    Experience leading consortium and complex proposals that have resulted in securing multi-millions USD in funding

    Scope of Work
    Under the supervision of the Village Enterprise WEE-CSA project manager, the West Pokot Regional manager, and the WEE-CSA Project team, the service provider will create individual case stories for 5-10 successful participants and 27 Farmer Groups. The service provider shall highlight the project’s efforts with a special focus on the economic empowerment, gender, and climate-smart agriculture output areas. The case studies and profiles will capture the project’s key results, successes, challenges, and best practices from the project and the project participants. The scope will require travel to West Pokot.
    Output/ Deliverables

    Develop a work plan for assignments, including travel days.
    Visit the selected project sites and interact with the local communities/beneficiaries impacted by the project.
    Interview selected participants and staff for the case study, perform appropriate video filming and shoot interviews with the participants and stakeholders of the project and produce high-quality project still photographs.
    Present at least five powerfully written draft case stories with pictures, two videos, and 27 saving group profiles (written) to Village Enterprise and its partners for comments on content
    Present final products in soft copy and hard copy

    Job Description
    Village Enterprise is seeking a candidate who will manage Business Mentors in the region to successfully carry out the NAWIRI Program  implementation  in  support  of  implementation  of  Village  Enterprise  Mission  and  Vision. Candidate will support additional core program efforts as needed. This is a split, field/office position, requiring ~60% time in the field and ~40% time in the office. A minimum time commitment of one year is required. 
    Business Mentor Activities: 

    Manage all Business Mentors (BMs) in your region, ensuring high-quality Core Program implementation
    Regular field visits (3-4 days a week) to assess training and mentoring by the Business Mentors and overall performance
    of businesses and carry out at least 6 business spot-checks per week.
    Spearhead the Village opening process in all the sub-counties
    Guide Business mentor on SBs and PRs grant applications for viable businesses and approve prior to submitting them
    to the Program Manager for review
    Ensure BMs work plans are developed, followed and timely shared through a google sheet

    Bi-weekly meetings and Induction Training for BMs

    Prepare bi-weekly meeting and agendas, and ensure they are timely update and sharing through a goggle sheet.
    Train BMs on new forms that need to be collected, constantly reinforcing the importance and  value of the data we collect and helping BMs troubleshoot issues as needed.
    Work with M&E during each biweekly meeting to confirm that the BMs have collected the proper forms and confirm their upload to the database.
    Lead and conduct Induction Training/onboarding for new BMs. This includes working closely with  departments to prepare agenda, schedule Field Visits, prepare materials  
    Work with Finance & A to ensure that all, induction and bi-weekly materials are printed or made available in a timely manner

    Reporting Program Reporting

    Work with the Program Manager to Collect, Develop, validate, consolidate, revise and submit BM work plans in a timely fashion.
    Monitor the collection of Mentoring logs and activity reports on behalf of the organization.
    Submit reports and minutes of any meeting attended on behalf of Village Enterprise.
    Ensure updated reports on attendance is tracked.

    Managing Partnerships

    Help establish a relationship with Local Government officials, community leaders and other stakeholders.
    The Field Associate represents the organization at district and sub county level including general meetings with Local government leadership, humanitarian actors, partners, protocol meetings, security meetings, as well as sector program meetings in consultation with the Program Manager
    Provide Management with reports and feedback from government and partnership meetings as needed within three days after the meeting.
    Support the BMs to register all Business Savings Groups with relevant government authorities at various levels.
    Develop and implement County and sub county entry and Facilitate expansion strategy to new areas of operation in collaboration with the Program Manager
    The Field  Associate  provides  general  support,  guidance,  and  serves  as  focal  point  during  program  planning  and reporting.
    Internal activity coordination
    Participate in Innovation Team meetings, actively participating and bring a positive field perspective to the team
    Support BMs in the implementation of the Adapted Nutrition-Friendly Graduation Model, studies and data collection as needed
    Provide feedback and support to overall program, pilots and strategic expansion
    Work with the innovations team to train other partners or organizations
    Act as  focal  persons  for  capturing  ideas,  learnings  from  the  Business  mentors  and  communities  and  submit  to  the innovations team.
    Work with M&E to deliver quality BM refresher activities
    Support BMs in phone/Tablet troubleshooting and in guiding BMs through quality data collection protocols

    Vision trip and Donor Visits

    Represent Village Enterprises’ values and program to donors, Guests and visiting staff
    Work with Management to arrange field scheduling for visitors, donors and guests
    Coordinate all preparations at the field level
    In some cases, work on the weekends to accommodate donor and staff visits

    Business Mentor performance appraisal and Professional development.

    Submit quarterly reports to the ACD, RM, Human Resource Coordinator and Country Director on Business mentor performance.
    Work with the ACD, Program Manager, and HR Coordinator to identify professional development opportunities for BMs and implement them.
    Work with the HR Coordinator to conduct performance reviews for BMs
    Assist with the improvement and development of monitoring activities and materials for business mentors.
    Management and Administration:

    The Field  Associate  ensures  that  Village  Enterprise  procedures  and  donor  regulations  applicable  to  a  project implemented in the area of operation concerning program, logistics, fraud control, protection of vulnerable groups and special interest groups in collaboration with the HR Coordinator, ACD, and Program Manager.
    The Field Associate is responsible for overseeing the management of day-to-day field operations including monitoring and reporting on staff attendance, staff leave and authorization of minor emergency field expenses in consultation with the HRC/Program Manager.

    Logistics: 

    Field Associate is in charge of overseeing and reporting on the logistics the field team including enforcement of field safety guidelines and adherence.
    Responsible for monitoring and reporting equipment usage and storage, planning, and maintenance of equipment and the functioning of the means of communication appropriate for the respective field staff.
    Assist in Computation of Field stipends for Field Staff
