    This position will be responsible for providing leadership, management and accountability for the activities and performance of African Wildlife Foundation’s (AWF) conservation program in the Tsavo Mkomazi in Southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania. The Tsavo Landscape Manager will also provide strategic oversight and direction for the implementation of the program, ensuring that each of the components are implemented in line with AWF practice and global standards taking account of the local conditions. The position oversees staff consisting of Ecologist, Research officer, Community Development officer and Field Assistants as well as Finance and Administration staff. The Landscape Manager will have support from AWF technical and administrative teams, who will provide guidance on implementation according to AWF standards, which are continuously strengthened to ensure alignment with global excellence in conservation and development practices. The position will be based in Voi and will report to the Country Director. This position will work closely with the Senior Director, Program Management & Partnerships.
    Key Duties & Responsibilities:
    Project Management

    Provide leadership for effective coordination and implementation of AWF’s landscape conservation program in the Tsavo-Mkomazi landscape.
    Lead in Stakeholder engagement in the landscape: Government authorities in the natural resource sectors (Wildlife Authorities, Agriculture/Livestock, Water resources etc.) in both Kenya and Tanzania; Peer organizations and other conservation partners; Communities, Professional bodies and the Private sector to advance conservation interests and goals in line with AWF Kenya’s collaboration and partnership policy framework and strategy.
    Provide technical oversight to the Landscape for field-based conservation actions, by focusing on: application of sustainable natural resources management; strengthening natural resource governance; participatory land and resource use planning, while increasing livelihood opportunities for communities within the landscape.
    Develop and schedule program work plan in accordance with specifications and funding limitations; Coordinate activities of program and determine priorities.
    Participate in knowledge management through conservation research, publication and dissemination of scientific research including representing AWF Kenya in national, regional and international conservation platforms.
    Champion the domestication of relevant national and regional policy instruments at local level in the designated landscape.
    Represent AWF at County and Local government level, and in the development of local level policies, with emphasis on wildlife and biodiversity conservation.
    In consultation with supervisor, further develop strategic partnerships in the landscape and grow the programme.
    Supervise the team on the ground to improve and strengthen stakeholder forums for ongoing dialogue between Wildlife Authorities, CBOs and private sector and professional bodies.
    Work with AWF experts on community aspects of conservation to ensure programmatic guidance in designing and strengthening community livelihoods programs; ensure proper participation and that livelihood support is linked to wildlife and biodiversity conservation in this landscape.
    Manage day-to-day operations of the Tsavo Landscape program, which includes: effective administration, human resources, tracking of the Landscape project/program finances, program monitoring and evaluation, timely accurate and verifiable donor reporting, and effective coordination and cooperation between project partners and key government depts. and wildlife authorities.
    Work with the Program Design team to generate project concepts for funding proposals to support the implementation of AWF’s strategy in the Landscape.

    Work with the Strategy team to implement AWF’s next 5-10-year strategy for the landscape.
    Work with the Communications and Marketing teams to communicate AWF messages through newsletters, reports and regular updates.
    Ensure knowledge of AWF’s rights-based approach to Conservation and ensure this is embedded and enforced in AWF’ programming

    Management of Resources and Budgets

    Develop bankable conservation proposals as part of the wider resource mobilization strategy;
    In consultation with the finance team, develop a cost-effective budget, schedule and track conservation programmes and budgets to ensure compliance;
    Ensure prudent management and safety of conservation assets and resources;
    Work with the Program Management and Grants Management teams to ensure annual work plans and budgets are produced in a timely way and are uploaded in AWF project management

    Requirements

    Bachelor’s Degree in Conservation Related Field. Masters an advantage.
    10+ years of proven managerial, administrative and field experience in conservation.
    At least 5 years’ experience of working on complex programmes at landscape level with multiple and diverse implementation partners and stakeholders – including high level political engagement, community livelihood initiatives – with cross-cutting themes and multiple objectives;

    Strategic experience working with multi stakeholders – Government ministries and agencies, Private Sector, communities and peer organizations
    Experience of successfully managing large projects and delivering timely and verifiable results.

    The Program Design Officer (PDO) contributes to African Wildlife Foundation’s (AWF) Kenya Country Program by cultivating relationships that are key to programming overseas development assistance (ODA), advising governments on conservation and development policies and programs, making the case for increased financing to biodiversity conservation nationally and leading the development of AWF proposals to finance our work in country. The PDO will be a member of a global team that manages public donor relationships, prepares complex proposals in response to identified opportunities, tracks and ensures quality in project reporting to donors, and tracks and informs AWF leadership of developments in donor strategies and priorities. The PDO will also carry partnership relations and policy functions that are a priority to the Kenya country strategy.
    The PDO position will be embedded within the Kenya country program, and as such will be an integral part of our focal country presence. The PDO will be responsible for identifying, defining and developing funding proposals in coordination with country, field, program and finance teams in order to raise public funds for existing and planned program activities in Kenya. This includes prospecting, researching, process management, writing and submitting grant applications to public donors. The position may also provide similar support to other countries in Africa as needed. The PDO will also be responsible for representing AWF to public sector partners, and supporting management of relationships with government agencies, civil Society organizations (CSOs) and other important stakeholders. In this respect the PDO will support identifying and promoting policies that support biodiversity conservation and sustainable development including engaging with CSOs to articulate and promote effective policies and engagement with platforms at all levels in strengthening capacities on effective policies and policy processes.
    Working closely with the Director Program Design (DPD), the AWF Country Directors/Coordinators, the Africa Policy lead, and donor Account Managers the PDO will work to win support for AWF’s strategy, cultivate existing and new donor and partner relationships, and elevate the conservation agenda in development cooperation and policy dialogues in Kenya.
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Proposal Development and Writing (~40%)
    As a part of the Program Design (PD) team, conducts the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to secure public funding for Kenya (mainly but may also support other countries in Africa in similar ways). Working under the leadership of DPD and Account Managers on the PD team, the PDO takes primary responsibility as “proposal lead” in searching for and responding to public donor funding opportunities:

    analyse and review funding opportunities and call for proposals and their fit for AWF’s present projects, programs and strategies;
    manage project proposal development processes;
    solicit technical inputs from AWF’s country and landscape teams and technical experts as well as from other AWF department, co-applicants and implementing partners;
    ensure that supporting documents from Government and co-applicants are timely secured;
    write professional and compelling log frames, concepts, proposals, budgets, etc.;
    work with PD/finance to present professional cost applications to secure public funding and ensure synergy in donor budgeting, contract development with partners and consortia, management and reporting.
    ensure that new proposals incorporate AWF’s rights-based standards and are aligned to donor requirements.

    Donor and Partner Cultivation and Management & Policy support (~50%)
    In collaboration with the DPD and AWF’s Kenya Country Director, the PDO leads AWF’s cultivation of opportunities for program development with bi- and multi-lateral development partners and donors in Kenya and support the country director and team with other key relationships with important stakeholders such as Governmental, civil society, or private sector partners as well as supporting AWF’s policy engagement in Kenya. These functions include, but are not limited to:
    Support AWF Kenya Country Program’s fundraising targets and grow AWF’s relationships with bi- and multi-lateral donors in Kenya.

    Support AWF Kenya Country Program team to establish and maintain relationships with key donors and Government institutions as well as key stakeholders in Kenya.
    Support policy and strategy engagement in Kenya in coordination with the Country Director and Policy/Government Relations teams based on Kenyan and African priorities and strategies.
    Track and analyse donor and governmental priorities and strategies in relation to AWF conservation, policy and fundraising objectives in Kenya and develop strategic interventions on how to secure funding.
    Track agendas of Kenya’s government and its development partners, to brief the Country Director and team, donor account managers, and International Policy & Government Relations (Global Leadership) team and provide technical advice on programming priorities in Kenya.
    Support the articulation and development of policies and strategies as needed with the aim of securing new funding opportunities for Kenya.
    Support development of funding plans and strategies for Kenya’s country, landscapes, and thematic programmes and emerging issues.
    Support Country and Landscape teams in effective donor servicing through soliciting and preparing for and participating in donor field visits to AWF landscapes and projects in Kenya.
    Provide specific grant management support upon request with: management and donor relations of existing grants; review project reports; donor compliance support to management of grants, grant panning and financial tracking of ongoing grants.
    Working with the Country Director, Africa policy lead and other key thematic and landscape leads, support development of clear, innovative, consistent and coherent messaging for policy work in Kenya.
    Provide inputs to policies affecting biodiversity conservation and sustainable economic development in Kenya, including monitoring of financial flows and investments to that end.
    Provide inputs and coordination on policy related to CSOs in Kenya.
    Promote increased financing to biodiversity conservation in Kenya.
    Support the engagement of Kenyan leaders at all levels to champion conservation as a core pillar of sustainable economic growth in Kenya.

    Similar support functions to other African countries may also be provided as needed.
    Other key roles (~10%)

    Liaise with account managers and PD team members to support proposal development and cultivation activities as needed across AWF’s fundraising portfolio.
    Coordinate with and assist the Philanthropy and Foundations & Corporations teams fundraising efforts for Kenya (and possibly other African countries), highlight local funding needs and priorities to these teams, function as a resource person, and ensure fundraising synergies are created.
    Support the rest of the PD as well as Grants, and Program teams to implement actions in their portfolios, adhere to donor conditions and submit reports in a timely way.
    Represent AWF in relevant meetings, conferences and at donor and partner events in Kenya.
    Collaborate with AWF communications and marketing teams to support visibility of AWF’s projects in Kenya.
    Support filing, tracking and reporting on PD grant and donor metrics and pipeline on monthly and quarterly basis.
    Support preparation of supporting materials for meetings, trips, presentations, and other events/occasions.
    Assists with other tasks, as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Reputable Master’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in relevant field: including conservation, natural resource management, rural/international development, economics, political science or similar.
    Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fundraising, proposal design, and donor engagement and relationship management, preferably in the field of conservation or environmental management.
    Highly skilled to conceptualize project design and write project documents (including budgets, log frames, and work plans) and reports.
    Existing relationships with donors in Kenya and up-to-date understanding of bilateral and multilateral donor agencies’ priorities in Kenya. Similar existing relationships for East Africa is an additional advantage.
    Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work as a team member and to negotiate and manage donor relationships.
    Have a logical perspective on things and ability to reduce mechanisms, processes, proposals, ideas, or formulas to their basic parts and understand and explain how they interrelate in a project or contribute to fulfilment of higher agendas such the Sustainable Development Goals, national development plans, and AWF’s mission, strategies and plans.

    The ABCG Director is the external face of the partnership. The Director engages new partners, new participants from existing partners, and new donors to the collective efforts of ABCG. The Director facilitates a team of volunteers from partner organizations and oversees a small Secretariat in order to drive vision setting, strategic and business planning, goal-setting, quality implementation, organizational performance measurement, and reinvention efforts, ensuring alignment with ABCG’s strategic direction.     Build network of African CSO partners, strengthening on-continent collaboration and elevating African-led solutions
    Design and lead process for selecting and recruiting new ABCG Members
    Convene and facilitate stakeholder consultations, conferences, and knowledge sharing events to promote peer-to-peer learning and cross-organizational collaboration
    Develop and implement a communications and engagement strategy including targeted outreach plans to form linkages with critical actors, grow ABCG’s community of practice, build cross-sector alliances, and expand ABCG’s presence and influence in Africa and with development partners
    Collaborate closely with Member technical staff to determine priority actions for addressing ABCG’s collective impact approach, lead technical proposal and budget development

    Organizational Management

    Institutionalize ABCG’s strategic business plan: Coordinate and facilitate collective impact planning; deliver on strategic goals
    Provide oversight, management support, and technical guidance to Member technical staff, ensuring effective and timely activity implementation. Assist teams in defining corrective measures where necessary

    Develop program performance tracking and upward reporting systems. Monitor progress and performance through KPIs prepared and reviewed quarterly
    Oversee budget management and reporting processes including the preparation of annual workplans and budgets, as well as financial and technical reports, ensuring that all Secretariat host institution and donor financial/administrative policies and procedures are adhered to

    Ensure compliance with CFR 200 and other USG rules and regulations
    Administer all grants and contracts flowing from the prime agreement, including managing member subawards and hiring consultants as needed
    Drive production of technical outputs to build the evidence base and design knowledge products to promote ABCG as a thought leader in the African conservation arena
    Manage the ABCG Secretariat staff’s workflows and ensure progress vs. workplan on annual goals

    Membership Management

    Create and maintain infrastructure to cultivate and manage new Members
    Align and build consensus among current and new Members, ensuring active participation of all Members
    Lead the transition of ABCG’s governance structures from US-based to Africa-based
    Resolve complex issues independently and develop recommendations for corrective strategies as needed

    Job Requirement

    Advanced Degree in natural resources management or related field
    10 years progressively responsible professional experience in program leadership and management, as well as team management of multidisciplinary staff, with assignments at regional and/or international levels
    Significant experience living and working in Africa and comprehensive understanding of key biodiversity conservation issues impacting Africa
    Experience in field-based conservation in Africa and the application of cross-cutting technical expertise
    Extensive network including African conservation leaders with demonstrated relationship management skills and connections within the African conservation and development sectors both on the continent and abroad
    Experience in guiding and motivating teams in a multicultural environment, as well as collaborative workplan execution and performance monitoring
    Strong managerial and leadership skills, high sense of objectivity, sound analytical capabilities with ability to facilitate, mentor, and build capacity
    A track record of executing difficult, time bound activities dependent on a wide variety of stakeholders
    Program and financial management skills with experience implementing and administering government and multilateral grants
    Proven experience in project design and proposal development
    Excellent attention to detail, systematic, lateral thinking and managing workflow while overseeing multiple priorities of complex programs
    Strong consensus-seeking skills with ability to find common solutions and resolve conflicts in collaborative settings
    Exceptional communication and representational skills, including written and public speaking; ability to articulate a compelling business case
    A sense of humor and flexibility to adapt to a very dynamic environment
    High-level negotiation and diplomatic skills with demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships and networks, and manage partner relationships (sub-awardees, institutional partners, donors)

    Knowledge of and experience with the Open Standards for Conservation, Miradi, or comparable planning tools
    Fluency in written and spoken English. Proficiency in French and Swahili is desirable

To be successful in this position, the successful candidate will be self-motivated, capable of working with minimum supervision, high numerical accuracy and demonstrate high levels of integrity and good work ethics.
    Responsibilities:

    FY 2022 Organizational Budget Data Capturing;
    Tally the received FY 2022 budget inputs
    Create budget journal entries with calendarization matching workplan
    Ensure personnel Budget is imported with EID and with Salary/Benefits split
    Update award Ledger in Award Vision
    Update Award with multi-year budget and reconcile to Budget ledger
    Update award reporting milestones in Award vision as per award agreement
    Organize and File award reports and other documentation in AWF e-filing system
    Review sub-grant reports as per the signed sub-agreement
    Update subgrant award milestones in Award vision
    Any other duties as delegated by the supervisor

    Requirements

    At least CPA II or any other professional accounting qualification

    An undergraduate degree in Accounting will be an added advantage

    Familiarization with government regulations.
    At least 6 months experience in a similar position
    Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
    Ability to work as part of a team.
    Strong written and verbal communication skills
    Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and to prioritize them.

    Landscape Intern

    The Tsavo-Mkomazi Landscape Intern will assist the supervisor in the advancement of the Tsavo-Mkomazi’s Landscape Strategy. The Tsavo-Mkomazi Landscape Intern will work with other Species Conservation and Science team members and other AWF team members within the Tsavo-Mkomazi Landscape to contribute towards overall goals and objectives of the program. This position will report to the Tsavo-Mkomazi Landscape Manager and will be based in Voi Town, Kenya.

    Responsibilities

    Assist in coordinating AWF’s Counter Wildlife Trafficking Programs in Tsavo-Mkomazi Landscape (80%).
    Assist in organizing and delivery of projects under AWF’s Wildlife Cybercrime Investigation Program.
    Attend court and secure data on wildlife crime investigation, prosecution and adjudication.
    Analyze wildlife cybercrime cases and other wildlife crime cases and document processes, outcomes and lessons learnt to improve prosecution and sentencing.
    Liaise with supervisor to assist in implementation of various projects within the landscape.
    Assist in report writing and documentation of results and outcomes.
    Carry out any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the landscape manager in support of the landscape program (20%).

    Requirement

    Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Law, International Relations, Wildlife Management, Environmental Management or any relevant Social Science.
    Fluency in English and Swahili.
    Strong report writing skills.
    Computer skills.
    Ability and willingness to travel.

    Previous experience in a wildlife conservation organization is an added advantage
