    Job Details
    The jobholder will provide managerial support to the Finance unit which will include undertaking financial management and procedures that support the Trust’s operations.
    In addition, this role is responsible for the implementation of policies, processes and procedures to ensure internal efficiencies and effective preparation and dissemination of financial information for management decision making and reporting purposes.
    Job Responsibilities

    Support the implementation of, and ensure adherence to the Trust’s financial management strategies, policies, procedures, processes and systems in order to achieve compliance requirements, optimal efficiency and effective utilization of resources and assets.
    Support the grant management process including contracting with sub-grantees, contracts administration and reporting.
    Maintenance of efficient financial management systems in accordance with the Trust’s financial procedures and in line with local and International Accounting Standards and best practi

    Cash flow management and review of reconciliations for submission to unit head.

    Qualifications
    The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

    At minimum possess a Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce from a recognized University. Those with business related postgraduate qualification such as a Masters degree in Business Administration will have an added advantage.
    Professional accounting qualifications such as CPA (K) or ACC
    Excellent knowledge and hands on experience in using computerized financial accounting systems; competence in use of Navision financial accounting software is desirable.
    Additional relevant training and qualifications in project accounting and grants management will be an added advantage.
    A minimum of 6 years’ overall relevant work experience in project/grants accounting with at least 3 years at management level.
    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    Programme Officer

    The jobholder is responsible for providing support to the civic engagement pillar for the efficient and effective delivery of civic engagement programmes. The jobholder will report to the Civic Engagement Manager.
    Responsibilities

    Participate in the development and implementation of the civic engagement work plan.
    Support in reviewing of partner reports and harvesting civic engagement results as per the outputs indicators and targets. This includes collating social accountability and budget related improvements from partner and budget facilitator initiatives
    Support in the monitoring of implementing partners in the civic engagement cluster.

    Provide logistical support for civic engagement capacity development activities such as workshops, implementing partner forums etc.
    Support the implementation of the safe and inclusive cities project that Uraia is implementing in collaboration with PLAN and SDI Kenya.
    Undertake monitoring, evaluation and learning activities of Uraia in liaison with the civic Engagement Manager
    Provide support in monitoring and evaluation of Uraia programme activities.
    Participate in capacity assessment of potential grantees.
    Any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

    Requirements

    Minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferably in Social or Development Studies.
    Additional qualifications in project management will be an added advantage
    Minimum of 3 years’ experience in implementing programme activities
    Demonstrated work experience in democracy and governance sector will be an added advantage.
    Additional qualifications and experience in public sector budgeting and performance monitoring work will be an asset.

    Research Consultancy

    Objective: The specific objective of this consultancy is to document the history and evolution of civic education in Kenya from the time of the country’s independence up to the year 2004.
    The consultant is expected to trace the evolution of civic education in Kenya by identifying past policy(ies) and legislations on civic education and how they were applied, identify the various civic education programmes that were implemented, document the various materials including curricular, information education communication materials and actions of civic education that were used during the period under study.
    Scope of work
    Undertake a research and document the history of civic education with a focus on the following key aspects:

    Civic education structures, frameworks, laws and policies;
    Civic education provision through the formal school curriculum;
    Civic education programmes undertaken by Non State Actors;
    Civic education programmes undertaken by State Actors.

    The research and documentation will also pay particular attention to how civic education providers reached out to marginalised groups such as persons with disabilities, pastoralist communities, women and youth.
    Phase one: Historical background research on civic education forms, laws, policies and actions undertaken in Kenya from 1963 to 1983. The research will include a review of the then Kenya Schools Curriculum to ascertain if any aspects of civic education were covered; a review of actions by groups on civic education including religious groups, trade unions, student groups etc.; any national or regional meetings held to discuss the provision civic education in Kenya. This will be undertaken through desk reviews and key informant interviews.
    Phase two: Historical background research on civic education forms, laws, policies and actions undertaken in Kenya between 1984 and 2004. The research will include a review of the Kenya Schools Curriculum to document aspects of civic education taught; a review of civic education programmes undertaken by groups including but not limited to civil society organisations, Constitutional Review Commissions, university student groups. This will be undertaken through desk reviews and key informant interviews.
    Required qualifications, experience and skills for the position:

    A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. A degree in History will be an added advantage.
    At least ten years’ experience in undertaking research, analysis and documentation.
    Experience in undertaking historical research and or a similar research will be an added advantage.
