    JOB PURPOSE:

    The position is responsible for development of databases in the environment in accordance to the set standards to meet business objectives.

    KEY TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Database Administrator

    Maintaining and applies up to date, specialist knowledge of database concepts, object and data modelling techniques and design principles, and a detailed knowledge of the full range of database architectures, software and facilities available.
    Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security is adhered to.
    Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users.
    2. System Administration
    Managing the configuration and operation of client-based computer operating systems.
    Running reports on system performance for team and wider organisation.
    Ensuring security through access controls and backups and firewalls.

    Cyber Security

    Continuous assessments of IT and Cyber risks within the IT database and systems ensuring identified risks are appropriately mitigated.
    Ensuring controlled access to DR site by authorized staff member.
    Implementing and monitoring BCP /DR related facilities.

    Internal Controls and Compliance

    Implementing various audit recommendations within IT database and systems infrastructure.
    Managing and advising on database and systems related risks and ensure compliance to IT security policies and procedures.
    Updating of IT environment risk register and risk log on all risk identified on new systems.

    REQUIREMENTS

    A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or IT related course from a recognized university.
    4 years relevant experience in MSSQL, MCSD/Oracle, MySQL/Oracle and other databases.

    Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
    Revenue

    Responsible for the growth of revenue to the set targets through retention & acquisition of new business on existing accounts and new ones.
    Promoting business growth and achievement of set performance growth targets by marketing Kenya Orient as a brand and selling its general insurance products to new and existing customers.
    Manage direct sales, individual, corporate, agents and broker sales.

    Cash Collection & Liquidity.

    Manage credit control and premium collection in line with credit policy.
    Manage approval of premium refunds and underwriting credit notes.
    Manage commission payments for intermediaries at the branch level.

    Loss Ratio.

    Manage the quality of business to maintain the agreed level of claims ratios.
    Review, manage and control the claims registered and paid to achieve set claims / loss ratios.

    Management Expense & Cost Efficiency

    Manage costs within the branch in order to achieve desired profitability and set management expense ratios.
    Ensuring that branch operations run smoothly and profitably so that quality service is provided to customers at all times.
    Control and account for branch petty cash and sundry expenses.

    Control of Company Assets and Cash.

    Monitoring bounced cheques and taking appropriate action.
    Driving operational matters at branch level and ensuring compliance with set policies and procedures.
    Supported by the Credit Controller, responsible for proper reconciliation of accounts (cash and bank, and accounts receivable) at the branch.

    Internal Controls and Reporting.

    Review business retention and profitability reports and take corrective action.
    Prepare timely, accurate, informative reports to management for decision making.
    Enforce compliance to the set internal audit controls and other periodic recommended internal processes by management.

    Talent Management.

    Administrative management & supervision of all branch staff.
    Performance Management, staff development and motivation.
    Ensure that the Performance Management process is embraced and continuously carried out for effective and efficient service to our customers with a view to achieve overall company business goals.

    Requirements

    A Bachelor’s degree in business related course (Insurance Option, Marketing, Business Administration, and Finance) or equivalent from a recognized university.
    Diploma in CII or AIIK or equivalent.
    6 years relevant experience with at least 2 years in supervisory role.

    Perform claims, lapse and expense analysis to come up with assumptions to be used to advice pricing, loss reserving and projection of the balance sheet liabilities.
    Continuous feedback of results into the actuarial control cycle to identify assumptions that need updating.
    Assist in the review of claims and underwriting policies to ensure continued validity of actuarial assumptions.

    Internal Controls and Reporting.

    Assist in ensuring compliance with changing standards affecting actuarial work e.g. IFRS 17.
    Prepare IRA and AKI reports for submission when necessary including technical liabilities reports and solvency reports.
    Interpret/explain business requirements and coordinate with developers for new requirements/issue resolutions/change requests.
    Assist in preparation of reports for new products for IRA submission before launch.

    Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent from a recognized university.
    Pass in atleast three actuarial professional papers.
    3 years relevant experience in Actuarial and Data Analytics.
