We are currently recruiting for Global Category Specialists to be based in our Nairobi office. Essential:
A Degree in Supply Chain/ Logistics or related area
At least 3 years’ experience as logistics management level at a Regional/Country level in the NGO sector, within complex/large scale country programmes and in emergency response/humanitarian environments.

ROLE PURPOSE:
The Research Coordinator will be required to support research activities under the review of strategies for integrating Child Protection (CP) and Child Rights Governance (CRG) in primary education programmes of Save the Children Somalia/Somaliland. The project is to be implemented in collaboration with CP, CRG and Education technical teams of the Country Office (CO), and with SC Norway. The purpose of the research is to assess the feasibility and expected effectiveness of various potential CP/CRG initiatives to integrate in Education programmes.
The research coordinator, with the support of the Director of REALM (Research, Evaluation, Analysis, Learning and Monitoring) and Research Advisory Group, will be based at Nairobi with frequent visits required to collect data and hold workshops in all three areas (Somaliland, Puntland, and South & Central Somalia). The specific activities include literature review, data collection tools development, conduct training to enumerators, facilitate participatory strategy review workshops, data analysis and drafting report.
Working closely with the Director of REALM, the Research Coordinator will support the day-to-day research activities under the project. He/she will bring a high level of technical competence and experience in order to supervise all field activities focused on data collection and data processing. He/she will be responsible for ensuring adequate planning for fieldwork and commitment to agreed deadlines. In addition, he/she will support analysis and reporting using collected data.
The Research Coordinator will play a central role in training of field research staff for the project with supports from Area MEAL Managers. In addition, he/she will be responsible for ensuring technical competence and capacity building of the field staff.

Regional Executive Support Officer
Role Purpose: As a key member of the Regional office team you will be the trusted partner of the Regional Director and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on all administrative related matters.

Team Assistant

Role Purpose:
Provide a professional administration support service to the Director, Migration and Displacement Initiative (MDI) and the global MDI team, with specific focused support to the Director.
The role will also provide an opportunity to get involved in the migration and displacement sector and engage on related research, policy and programming issues.
Other tasks include (but not limited to)
Manage all travel booking arrangements for the Director and the MDI team, including other related requirements such as visas, hotel accommodation and foreign currency. It should be noted that most of the MDI team are not based in Nairobi.

ROLE PURPOSE:
The Area Programme Manager has overall responsibility for providing leadership which produces effective delivery and development of programmes in his/her area of operations. The APM is responsible for the efficient management of all Area Office resources (grants, awards, staff and assets) and leads the representation of Save the Children with county level authorities, INGOs and NGOS, and visitors. His/her management of programme implementation and operations will ensure that the Area Office is in accordance with Save the Children’s policies and practises its Mission, Vision and Values.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Director of Programme Operations
Dimensions : Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since the 1950s, providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners. Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH. In 2012, as part of a global reorganization process, Save the Children combined the programmes of SC UK, SC Canada and SC Finland to create a single operation in Kenya. In Feb 2014, we completed a second transition, which saw us join forces with the British INGO, Merlin, and merge their health and nutrition programmes with our own. Save the Children now has an operational presence in Bungoma, Dadaab Refugee Camp, Garissa, Mandera, Turkana and Wajir and we work through partners in many other parts of the country. We employ nearly 300 staff and will have an operating annual budget in 2015 of approximately US$20-25 million.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Quality Program Implementation, Management and Reporting
• Responsible and accountable for SC’s programmes in the area and for the implementation and management of programmes, grants and awards in accordance with SC’s strategies and policies for quality programming.
• Ensure that the Area Office teams receive appropriate and timely support from technical advisers and programme quality teams for program design and strategy, M&E, advocacy and planning.
• Contribute to strategy and proposal development within the area under the overall leadership of the Programme Development and Quality team. Responsible for ensuring that proposals are relevant, contextualized and inclusive of all required support and staffing costs at the field level.
• Ensure that the programmes are appropriately monitored reviewed and evaluated on a continuous basis according to organisational quality standards and in coordination with the Programme Development and Quality team.
• Ensure appropriate systems for all aspects of programme cycle management are in place ensuring lessons learned are taken into account.
Operational Management
• Responsible and accountable for SC’s programmes in the area and ensure the planning, implementation and management of programmes in accordance with SC’s strategies and policies
• Lead the Area Management Team in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of field operations and ensure that programme plans are clearly prioritized and communicated to the operations team effectively;
• Conduct regular Area Management Meetings (preferably fortnightly) to enhance information sharing among Area Management Team members and effectiveness of operations;
• Work closely with the Programme Operations Director to ensure adequate logistical support to deliver high quality programmes effectively.
• Lead the development and monitoring of field-based detailed programme implementation and grant management workplans. Responsible for ensuring that field-based teams implement programmes on schedule and within budget.
• Responsible for the delivery of high quality, timely reports for donors and internal purposes, as well as the development of relevant case studies, success stories and other documentation.
• Lead field-based start-up meetings of new projects with relevant CO staff to guarantee a joint understanding among team members of donor requirements, budget responsibilities, technical requirements and other considerations.
• Ensure standardised systems, policies and procedures are in place, well understood by all staff and in line with with the country programme system and are implemented in an appropriate manner
• Ensure that the principles of child safeguarding and ‘do no harm’ are embedded in all programme planning, implementation and reporting and that staff receive regular, up to date training on same. Ensure transparency in targeting beneficiaries, delivery of services and participation of beneficiaries and partners in planning and monitoring of process is reflected in programme delivery.
• Ensure all SCI Management Operating Standards are followed, implemented and maintained
• Ensure all contingency and Emergency Preparedness Plans are continually updated according to SC operational standards and implemented when appropriate.
Financial, Budget, Grant & Award Management
• Responsible for all budgets (donors and SC’s own resources) provided to the area. This may be delegated to other budget holders but overall accountability for the budgets for the area remains with the Area Programme Manager.
• Lead monthly budget vs actual grant management meetings at appropriate levels with team and in close collaboration with the Grants and Awards Manager. Ensure timely report providing a variance analysis on each budget is submitted to Programme Operations Director and Finance Director
• Identify any budget challenges or issues such as over or underspends and propose solutions to line manager as soon as issues are identified. Ensure that these are identified through the monthly variance meetings and immediately addressed.
• Oversee the general application and observance of financial procedures and guidelines set out in SC financial manual and donors’ requirements
• Ensure the grants are managed as per Save the Children’s and donors’ requirement including the quality and timely submission of reports
• In collaboration with PDQ, ensure an efficient fundraising plan is in place and implemented
• Prepare annual budgets for the Area Office programme, assessing costs and budget/expenditures from projects and asset inventory.
• Prepare, and submit for approval, program budgets and expenditure forecasts.
• Responsible for certifying and authorizing disbursements according to SC and donor guidelines.
Human Resources
• Lead, manage and motivate the Area Programme team, ensuring that they have clear work objectives and individual/team workplans and receive meaningful feedback on their performance;
• In coordination with the SMT, maintain appropriate staffing levels and structures in the Area programme team, whilst planning and implementing specific actions to recruit, manage and motivate staff.
• Ensure appropriate gender and ethnic diversity within the Area programme team;
• Ensure that Area staff have clearly defined objectives and understand their responsibilities. Ensure compliance with staff development strategies and Performance Management systems and evaluations.
Security management and Context Monitoring
• In close collaboration with the Safety and Security Manager, proactively monitor the political, military and security situation at local level and regularly report on its potential impact on SC’s activities
• In close collaboration with the Safety and Security Director, develop a clear safety and security management plan for all areas of operations. Ensure that staff understand and can implement this plan – and that it is reviewed and updated regularly.
• Manage and report on all security incidents in accordance with SCI Safety and Security procedures
Representation Accountabilities
• Establish, maintain, and improve active and regular working relationships and take the lead role in representing the principles and work of SC to representatives of other organizations (UN, NGOs, INGOs, counterparts, donors, government Authorities etc) who are working and visiting in the Area Programme.
• Oversee that local implementing partners are discharging their responsibilities, live up to stipulations stated in the partnership agreement and take appropriate action.
• Ensure that SC partnership approaches and practices comply with SC’s Child Safeguarding Policy and where possible promotes effective child participation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelors degree in development or other social sciences and extensive practical senior management experience preferably in development and humanitarian response programmes;
• Experience of managing the programme cycle, including assessments, project design, proposal and report writing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;

Regional Media Manager
The Media Manager role is a key management position meant to ensure that quality and timely media are produced for news media organisations and other partners and to ensure visibility of Save the Children’s brand. A key part of this role is to secure international/regional media coverage and ensure Save the Children is positioned as a first responder to emergencies in the Horn of Africa, southern Africa and other emergency responses in the region.
The post holder is expected to demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter who will generate ideas and drive content forward, providing compelling case studies, images and video, as well as spotting strong news lines and writing engaging headlines. Central to achieving this is to oversee a media strategy to highlight the Emergency responses in the region and in developing situations.
The Media Manager will act as a key focal point for all media requests from members. When necessary, this post-holder may act as a Save the Children Spokesperson. This will be achieved by regular coordination and liaison with the Global Media Unit based in London.
In addition to the above, the post holder will also be expected to support RO/countries brand building in-country, namely through national and regional media. Fundamental to the job is the ability to gather, consolidate, analyse and share information in a way that is easily understood by news organisations, and other stakeholders.
The role will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, but travel within the East and Southern Africa region will be part a regular part of the Media Manager’s responsibilities.
Qualifications and experience
EssentialAt least five years’ experience as a journalist in a credible news organisation OR equivalent experience as a Media & Communications Manager in an international humanitarian or development agency, and experience of dealing in the international media environment
Significant experience of working overseas/regionally in humanitarian programmes
Experience of leading media activities in a challenging environment
Fluent in English, other languages desirable
Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills producing materials for a wide range of different audiences including donors, journalists and the ‘general public’
Experience of effective spokes personing across a range of media
Experience designing and implementing trainings in communications and media skills
Excellent writing skills, and the ability to produce compelling media products such as press releases, key messages/speaking points and Q&As
Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality photography and video materials
Familiarity with digital production workflows
Knowledge of photography and video editing software
Ability to digest complex information, quickly, and express this crisply and clearly
Thorough understanding of the various political and cultural contexts surrounding of emergency responses and international development programming in East and Southern Africa
Excellent relationship building skills in order to work for limited periods within programmes under pressure of running emergency responses
An initiative-taking, proactive, inspiring attitude with the ability to manage and prioritise an unpredictable workload and solve problems quickly with limited support
Experience of delivering training, presentations and other capacity building activities to varied audiences, ideally within a country programme.

CPiE & EiE Professional Development Programme Administrator
Job description
ROLE PURPOSE
The Administrator will work to support the rollout and delivery of the East & Southern Africa (ESA) Child Protection in Emergencies Professional Development Programme (ESA CPiE PDP) and of the Education in Emergencies Professional Development Programme (EiE PDP).
Building on the successful capacity building model developed by Save the Children and now established in the Asia Pacific region (for CPiE) and Middle East & Eastern Europe (for CPiE and EiE), the ESA CPiE and EiE PDPs will raise national & regional response capacity in these respective sectors. Using the results of a regional CPiE and EiE Capacity Gap Analyses and the Mapping & Market Analysis data, a comprehensive CPiE and EiE professional development strategy will be designed for the region to meet the priority needs of organisations and individuals responding on the ground.
In addition to building sector capacity as a whole, the ESA CPiE and EiE PDPs constitute a strategic investment in building the capacity necessary to deliver on Save the Children’s Protecting Children in Conflict Centenary Commitment.
