    Brief Description 

    Reporting to the DataOps Engineering Lead, the job holder will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based data pipelines within our data ecosystem.     Key Responsibilities:

    Platform Architecture: Design and develop a scalable and extensible data engineering platform to support the organization’s data-driven initiatives. Architect data pipelines, storage solutions, and frameworks to handle large volumes of data efficiently.
    Data Integration and Processing: Implement data ingestion pipelines to integrate data from various sources, including databases, data warehouses, APIs, and streaming platforms. Develop ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to preprocess and clean raw data for analysis. 
    Analytics Tools and Technologies: Evaluate, select, and integrate analytics tools and technologies to support data exploration, visualization, and modeling. Implement and optimize databases, data warehouses, and analytics frameworks such as SQL, Hadoop, Spark, and Elasticsearch. 
    Scalability and Performance: Optimize data processing pipelines and analytics workflows for scalability, performance, and efficiency. Implement parallel processing, distributed computing, and caching mechanisms to handle large-scale data engineering workloads. 
    Data Governance and Security: Ensure compliance with data governance policies, regulatory requirements, and security best practices. Implement access controls, encryption, and auditing mechanisms to protect sensitive data and ensure data privacy and confidentiality. 
    Monitoring and Maintenance: Develop monitoring and alerting systems to track platform performance, data quality, and system health. Proactively identify and resolve issues to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted data analytics operations. 
    Automation and DevOps: Implement automation pipelines for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment. Establish continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes to streamline platform development and operations.
    Documentation and Training: Document platform architecture, data pipelines, and analytics workflows. Provide training and support to data analysts and data scientists to ensure effective use of the data analytics platform. 

    Qualifications

    Degree in Science/computer science/Engineering or any other related field.
    Solid understanding of data engineering principles, techniques, and methodologies.
    Solid understanding of distributed systems.
    Over 5 years experience building cloud based data engineering solutions
    At least 2 years of experience in software development in any of the following programming languages Python, Java, or Scala.
    At least 2 years of experience working on streaming processing tools such as Amazon  Kinesis, Apache kafka, Apache Flink, apache pulsar.
    At least 3 years of experience working with data processing frameworks such as EMR , Apache Spark, Apache Hadoop, or Apache Nifi.

    About the Role

    Key Responsibilities

    Terminals strategy: 

    Lead terminals strategy leveraging the Safaricom product catalogue and strategic assets. 
    Ensure company market requirements are reflected into the planning of the Vodacom/Vodafone group global product strategy. 
    Develop relevant strategic group initiatives are reflected in local strategic plans. Creating an integrated terminals 
    Lead the terminals planning processes, delivering on time and to a high quality

    New Growth Areas (Fixed)

    Develop, implement, and oversee overarching sales and business development strategy, sales processes, and structure for FFTX
    Research and identify new business opportunities – including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, and services – or new ways of reaching existing markets
    Ensure robust pricing structure in conjunction with Fixed tribe  in line with business value analysis
    Ensure  build up, maintenance and management of a sustainable sales pipeline in order to reach the set revenue targets set for the company in the annual budget.

    Business improvement: 

    Transform the Terminals and Fixed Business end to end. Integration of the full value chain, leading Kenya’s integration into the global strategy. Specific improvement plans regarding terminals Supply & Demand Process, In-stores After Sales Services, Logistics & Buy Back. Portfolio & Commercial alignment to deliver scale 

    Marketing plan: 

    Lead Co-creation of terminals integrated marketing plan for Safaricom across all functional areas and ‘through-the-line’ (i.e. single plan integrating prepay/postpay/VAS propositions, with terminals, with ATL, BTL and base marketing, and sales focus) in collaboration with CBU Data Tribe Lead; Keep this ‘live’ throughout the year, identifying gaps and potential conflicts. 
    Review priorities based on company’s strategic direction, resource allocation and return. 

    Partner Management: 

    Co-lead local negotiations with terminals, accessories and after sales/Logistics services suppliers, ensure integration, alignment and continuity with VPC negotiations in a way that will generate more benefits and profits for the company. 
    Supports special projects when terminals are key enabler to deliver project’s goals. Lead differentiation strategy by reaching better deals regarding Time to Market Advantage, Prices, Product Availability and Inventory management 

    Device Financing:

    Lead the device financing strategy and implementation in collaboration with the CBU, EBU and Finance Divisions to support the 4G penetration agenda for the company and improve NPS.

    Customers, suppliers and third parties

    Strong Collaboration with OEM’s, OTT and Vodacom Terminals Group Marketing and Procurement as well as with Regional Operations regarding all terminals business aspects (Marketing, Supply Chain, After Sales) and CBU, EBU, Finance, HR, Corporate Affairs, Legal, Technology and Productivity – Finance.

    Team Management

    Managing and offering leadership to the Terminals function team 

    Qualifications

    5+ senior experience in marketing/commercial/strategy experience. 
    Detailed knowledge of mobile telecoms and related industries, as well as general strategy issues and problem solving approaches
    Specific knowledge of mobile device value chain and business management in an operational context with device financing an added advantage
    Strong knowledge and experience of Safaricom/Telco operating model or equivalent similar global corporate operation  
    Ability to operate successfully in dynamic, uncertain and challenging environments, and to manage effectively in a matrix organisation
    Creativity in problem solving, with a positive ‘can do’ approach
    Excellent written and verbal communications skills; Strong personal impact and influencing skills

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Chief Consumer Business Officer (CCBO), the role holder will be charged with leading the Fixed Broadband business and is also responsible for ensuring this business achieves targeted revenue objectives and leadership in the marketplace. 

    About the role

    The role is responsible for defining and delivering on the Fixed broadband strategy, performance indicators that will ensure great customer experience through seamless end to end customer journeys securing Safaricom as the leading Fixed Broadband provider. The role holder will also shape the brand perception to grow brand love and consideration.
    The role will drive convergence and grow home broadband uptake through development of relevant products and services. The role holder is also expected to drive growth by accelerating the broadband customer base through launching innovative home connectivity solutions, converged propositions, extend coverage profitably and strengthen our customer promise and experience. 
    The role is responsible for delivering a great customer experience to enable Safaricom become the trusted partner of choice for fixed connectivity and solutions. This is achieved through the development of strong partnerships with fixed technology, content & terminal providers to drive acquisition, deployment and superior experience. 
    The Fixed Broadband lead will role model the agile culture & mindsets of a servant leader, creating transparency both horizontally (across Tribes) and vertically (from Management Exco to Squads) and with the wider business stakeholders. 
    The role requires a strong cross-functional collaborator who partners effectively with teams across commercial and technology in the organization with demonstrated deep understanding of broadband technologies and content 

    Responsibilities

    Key accountabilities and responsibilities.

    Owns, formulates for approval from the CCBO the strategy and the development of Fixed product propositions; aimed at ensuring Safaricom is the brand of preference and ensuring differentiation in the market.

    Qualifications

    Must have technical / professional qualifications: 

    Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication Engineering, IT, or related field

    Strong customer focus with proven experience in launching products and delivering against product revenue targets.
    Experience in managing and developing teams
    Strong awareness if market trends, competitive impacts and market opportunities
    Product management experience including managing strategy development and product diversification
