    Key responsibilities:

    The Development Specialist will participate in business development and project management and specific responsibilities will include:
      
    Business development:

    Proactively undertake research on project areas and support analysis of industry trends to better understand our clients’ needs
    Proactively and professionally engage with local, regional, and international partners and consultants
    Track business prospects and support conversion of opportunities into successful bids
    Support proposal preparation processes (conceptualizing, designing, preparing, undertaking quality assurance and timely submission)
    Draft proposal sections, as required
    Support recruitment of qualified local, regional, and international consultants
    Conduct follow-up with partners, consultants, and team members after proposal submission for debriefs, and to disseminate key lessons learned.

    Project management:

    While the focus of the Development Specialist role will be in business development, there will be opportunities in project management to undertake the following tasks:   

    Backstop projects, including monitoring project budgets
    Recruit, mobilize, and demobilize consultants
    Support development of annual plans and reports
    Support development and timely and quality delivery of deliverables
    Develop and sustain strong relationships with project teams and partners
    Visit project sites and attend project workshops

    Qualifications:

    Master’s degree in relevant international development field (Conflict and Peace Studies, Climatology, Disaster Management, Environmental Planning and Management, History, Political Science, Community Development, Gender, etc.) or related field.
    At least 3 years’ prior experience in international development assistance; working experience in an international environment is preferable
    At least 2 years’ prior experience in business development that includes participation in winning new projects
    Demonstrated success interacting with all levels of professional staff
    Ability to thrive in a fast-paced commercial environment with serial deadlines
    Good communicator both oral and written, with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to deal with persons of various cultural and educational backgrounds, service oriented
    Ability to work independently in a disciplined and organized manner
    Highly motivated, proactive with analytical and creative abilities to support problem solving
    Demonstrable ability in Microsoft Office suite
    Authorization to work in Kenya is required.

    Position Outline

    We are seeking an experienced Team Leader with expertise in leadership and delivery of largescale development programmes in the areas of education and skills development.  The Team Leader must have capability to provide overall accountability, strategic direction, technical oversight, lead diverse multidisciplinary teams, and experience with Kenya TVET country stakeholders. The successful applicant must also have previous Team Leader experience, excellent interpersonal and communications skills to build strong relations with government, private sector and civil society stakeholders, previous experience and the leadership skills to build strong connections and influence others.
    Based in Nairobi, the Team Leader’s role and responsibilities will include:
    Strategic oversight of the programme;

    Building, managing and bridging relationships with key stakeholders at community, civil society, business and government levels;
    Identifying and managing risks to successful programme implementation
    Keeping abreast of skills policy developments in Kenya and the UK, and using this knowledge to spot opportunities for programme interventions which support better skills in Kenya.

     Team Leader required skills and competencies:

    Proven experience in leading higher education and TVET training and employment programmes,

    Team Leader qualification requirements:

    Position Description and Duties
    Cardno International Development in its Nairobi office is seeking a full-time Senior Communications Professional who will be responsible for managing and executing multiple communications initiatives working directly with USAID in Kenya to meet their strategic initiatives. The position is based in Kenya and will report to Cardno’s Nairobi office.

    S/he will manage the full suite of communications services to support the strategic objectives, including the development and implementation of a communications strategy. S/he will lead activities to maximize USAID’s branding and messaging throughout Eastern Africa. This will include content creation for and utilization of social media platforms, web, newsletters, and other tools.
    The position requires 8+ years of experience in international development and multiple disciplines of communications, including developing and implementing communications strategy, writing articles and press releases, producing brochures and other marketing materials, digital marketing, social media, public relations and outreach to local media.
    Developing internal and external marketing and communications materials (articles, press releases, talking points, presentations, layout and design thereof, etc.)
    Planning and executing events and outreach
    Ensuring full utilization of social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and HootSuite
    Adhering to and regulating the implementation of USAID’s Graphics Standards Manual and the agency’s Branding and Marking contractual requirements
    Willing and able to travel on occasion in Kenya and internationally
    Existing relationships with local media a plus

    Qualifications:
    Education
    A Master’s Degree in Communications or Journalism, or a related field of study (or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with an additional 10 years of relevant experience)
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    At least 8 years of related public relations, public outreach or communications for international development experience.
    Excellent communication skills, including writing and editing
    Demonstrated management, supervision, leadership, organizational, teamwork, and people skills
    Demonstrated skills in full utilization of social media including: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and HootSuite
    Demonstrated skills in graphic design, including basic working knowledge of Adobe InDesign
    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of major international donor organizations, especially USAID
    Demonstrated experience in proposal development, in particular for USAID
    Knowledge of corporate client business development a plus
    Ability to work harmoniously in high pressure situations
    Experience working with international programs and understanding of business development and project management in developing countries
    Experience working in Africa, particularly Kenya, highly preferred
